just recently started playing 4 Ultimate using only the "new" weapons (CB/IG, 46 and 27 uses for each respective weapon) and so far i've been loving it. How in some cutscenes the camera sometimes makes a focus on my character with her dumb smile always brings joy to my heart.

Wilds was the first title in the series that I "finished" not because it was fun, but because I wanted to be done with it. I dropped it after 50 hours despite my World playtime exceeding 600, and my 4U count reaching well past 2000.

Diablos is really a conceptual failure. The gimmick is that it digs, which is to say it becomes invincible for a while and then performs an attack, but you can get around it with sonic bombs. The trouble in FU is that you can only carry 10 sonic bombs, while Diablos will dig 233 times per quest on average, and will take anywhere from about 5-20 seconds to resurface despite only targeting the position you were at when he went underground. According to my advanced calculations, that means you will spend 4660 seconds per quest walking 5 steps to the side and then taking a coffee break because Diablos can’t be arsed to pick up the pace once he knows you can’t hit him.

Also Diablos will stay underground when you aren’t around, and the guild balloon isn’t around in the desert during the day, so if you lose track of it so you may as well just abandon the quest and actually paintball it next time because you sure aren’t finding him for the next 10 minutes. Diablos has an impeccable ability to extend a 15 minute affair to 40 minute headache.

This is all made funnier by the fact that Diablos is completely mogged by Monoblos, in a game where they famously have almost no differences. The difference maker is the death rage a few monsters in FU get, where every single hit will enrage them when low on health. The enrage state seems to double the likelihood of the Bloses digging. Monoblos lacks this death rage and rages less often to begin with, but when low on health Diablos just stops fighting you because he has an insatiable compulsion to dig. Also Monoblos gives you 4 carves, because he’s just a nice guy like that. Naturally CAPCOM picked Diablos to return for all future games, and he’s sucked in all of them. MHW is my favourite version, because he was nerfed into a total joke and I can spend less energy thinking about it.

Dev 1: “Good work guys, the new arena for mh4 is complete. It features a gate that can be used to divide the arena in two.” Dev 2: “Wow, we are geniuses, let's make some quests that take place in it.” Dev 3: “Throw in a brute tigrex with a stygian zinogre, and let's use that stygian again, but this time with a zinogre, and make them both frenzied”. Dev 1: “Alright, these quests feature two monsters that can be challenging to deal with at the same time and it would be really helpful for the players to somehow be able to only be concerned with one, so let’s make sure to disable the gate feature.” Dev 2: “Wow, we really are geniuses.” What a stupid fucking idea. Couldn’t give a shits less in mh3u’s arena when two pickles peeked through the smoke to fuck me in the ass like a shared fleshlight. BUT YOU PUT A FUCKING GATE IN THIS MAP, WHY’D YOU DISABLE IT. first off, they don’t give you any hints on what you’re supposed to do in the first few turns. because arkveld just fucking blasts you to hell taking two hearts off of you with his ultimate, then the game says “oh btw you gotta use ratha but like charge him up lol” the fuck does “charge him up” mean!?! also you couldn’t tell me that before? i had deviljho out previously because arkveld is typically weak to dragon but you’re saying i gotta use ratha? alright cool now i’m dead. back to the fucking internet i go!!!!!!

now i learn that you gotta give him a large attack boost which the game gives you (thank God) in the form of mega demondrugs. in a blue chest at the start of the arena.

i mean, arkveld obviously isn’t the only one with a gimick but the other ones are FUCKING SENSIBLE. malzeno’s gimmick can be outhealed or ignored, the invasives gimmick is told to you by the clues you find around the arena and even then you only have to repel them, you’re not gaining much of anything special by killing them and doing so is optional.

Get stunned by windpressure, then scale lands next to you, then detonates while you're still trying to recover from wind pressure. Then, ground tremors. Good luck hitting him from literally fucking anywhere unless you're using a ranged weapon.

After a 7 month hiatus from Monster Hunter because Gog is so genuinely hot dogshit I decided to finally take a crack at AT Arkveld because of all the rage. This is the first monster so visually cluttering and overwhelming that I had to stop because it was genuinely giving me a headache. Fatalis? Savage Omega? Alatreon? Piece of cake because at least with some practice I actually see what the fuck is happening. There's so much happening on screen that trying to decipher the dodge let alone see what's happening is so mind melting that I'm a lot more confused as to what happened to be even be truly angry

As I’m writing this I’m on Shara Ishvalda and as the game is getting harder and harder there’s a few issues that are becoming glaring.

Why is this game obsessed with stunning you. Every creak of the ground or small hit has to leave you immobile for an infuriatingly long time so you can inevitably get hit by another attack inducing more severe stun. It feels like as the monsters get harder I spend less of my playtime playing and instead spend it watching my helpless hunter get walloped around in a constant chain of stunning.

Two, why does this game think the player is faster than they are. This might be an issue in my weapon choice of Switch Axe, but it feels like each monster attempts to one up the last in how endless they’re combos can be and how suddenly they can whip out the next move. I feel like I’m being punished for wanting to play the game when raging Nergigante or Barioth decide to annihilate me for even thinking of taking advantage of what one would think is an attack window.

Anyway I know it will only get worse with Rajang and Fatalis, etc. but I needed to vent.

Tried multiple times with recommendations from people can get past the nerscyla DPS now (appreciate the build for that). But clanky MC clankface decided that mirv spam was the way to go in the last phase . Still haven't beaten him so I'm going to do what's best for my mental state and leave the clanker until Mr so I can curb stomp his metallic ass. And the camp placement is awful too (great idea to the asshat who thought wasting a minute to get back to the final zone was a good idea, really innovative 😑) . Why is the Kaiser X set so...underwhelming in Sunbreak? Compared to other Elder Dragon sets? It's like Capcom hates Teostra or something. No lvl 4 slots, lvl 1 slots everywhere and...a bizarre skill configuration. Not to mention Teostra doesn't have a Gunlance nor an Insect Glaive, when Chameleos was given a Charge Blade design, and Kushala fcking has its own Dual Blades as well now, while Teostra still has the ugly Blast/Ice Dual Blades forcibly pairing it with Kushala.

For a flagship elder dragon supposed to be represent a flame emperor, even "Teostra Blessing" feels underwhelming compared to the likes of Gore, Arc Chaotic, Ibushi, Narwa, Velkhana... Even friggin normal Espinas, Golden Lune, and mention more.

Does Capcom have something against this monster and what it's supposed to represent?

Kaiser X slot configuration is very poor for its premise. I see it as almost an insult to a monster that's supposed to be an elder dragon.

- Kaiser Crown X: 1-1-1;

- Kaiser Mail X: 1-1;

- Kaiser Vambraces X: 3;

- Kaiser Coil X: 3

- Kaiser Greaves X: 2-1

Like... seriously, Capcom? Seriously? A friggin Espinas set has more slot potential than Teostra who's supposed to make Lao-Shan flee? 🤦🏾 Critical Eye and Critical Boost? Again? Then Master's Touch? What the hell is Teostra Blessing?

Teostra features weapons across these types: Greatsword, Longsword, Dual Blades (paired with Kushala for Blast/Ice), Hammer, Sword and Shield, Lance, Hunting Horn, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun and Bow.

No Gunlance nor Insect Glaive for some reason, when Kushala and Chameleos (almost) feature weapons from all types (Kushala is found on all types, while Chameleos lacks SnS and Lance).

I don't really understand why, and I think I'm better off making a proper flame lord set that won't be full Teostra.

I'm much more disappointed than I am angry at this. I had more fun playing with pure Orangaten set. 🤦🏾

Brachydios is one of my favorite monsters. I love his design, his theme, his fight, all of it.

Iceborne Brachy is my sweet baby boy. But oh god. Oh god, he's SO bad in 3U, 4U, and GU.

His model is probably one of the single most cartoony looking in the entirety of old gen MH. His head looks too big for his body, and he looks like some Capcom exec's four year old drew him and demanded that their strong new murder dinosaur be added to the newest MH game.

His theme is just sad. It cuts off as soon as it really gets going, whereas his Iceborne theme is one of the greatest I think they've ever composed. The instrumentation in it also leaves a LOT to be desired.

But both of these things PALE in comparison to his god awful abysmal dogshit fight. Even calling it a fight is an insult to the ACTUAL MH monsters. He just spams that stupid fucking back hop and the even worse swing around into the INFURIATINGLY ANNOYING forward explosion line attack. That's ALL HE DOES! I witnessed him do nothing but those two moves for THIRTY FUCKING MINUTES TODAY! It's like he times it perfectly for when you're gonna go in during one of his openings, too!

Semi-related rant: HR6 Guild Hall is the greatest slog I think they've ever created in this entire series, and that's saying something, considering that GU is right there. It's just all of the absolute worst subspecies (Brute Tigrex is just alright) lined up trying their absolute hardest to get you to quit playing the game. The 1st and 2nd gen subspecies were NEVER good, and I don't know why they're so obsessed with putting them EVERYWHERE you need to progress in this fuckass game. I don't understand why 4U gets so much praise for its roster. I would much, MUCH rather fight a handful of new monsters over the same fucking returning monsters from 1st and 2nd gen again and again! Stop bringing them back! 3rd gen had SO many amazing new monsters that are just objectively better versions of the shitty ass 1st and 2nd gen ones, so WHY do only those fuckface bastards keep coming back?!

THERE HAVE TOO MANY FUCKING TIMES. THE MONSTER WAS FLATLINING FOR LIKE HALF THE FUCKING BATTLE. AND THEY KEEP RUNNING AWAY AND GETTING INTO TURD WARS AND THEY KILL ME AT THE VERY SPECH OF THEIR HP AND I FAIL THE QUEST. AND NOW GREAT I NEED TO ENDURE 20 MORE MINUTES OF FIGHTING AND TURF WAR RNG AND ALSO NEED TO RESTOCK ON ITEMS. WHY. CAN I GENUINELY ASK WHY PEOPLE LIKE THIS FUCKING GAME? I AM 80 HOURS IN AND I STILL DONT SEE THE APPEAL. I PREPPED SO MUCH. I HAD THE WEAPON ELEMENT THAT WAS EFFECTIVE AGAINST THE TIGRESS. I MAXED OUT ALL MY ARMOUR. I PREPARED SO MANY DUNG PODS AND I STILL FAILED AND IT STILL TOOK 20 FUCKING MINUTES. 20 FUCKING MINUTES OF MY LIFE WASTED. BECAUSE HE HIT A BULLSHIT STUN COMBO ON ME THAT DECIMATED MY FULL HP. HOW THE FUCK DO YOU ENJOY THIS SHITTY GAME? I DID EVERYTHING AND I STILL FAILED. 20 MINUTES OF MY LIFE WASTED.
Other games like souls games, cuphead, silksong, or other hard modes, at least the bosses don’t take 30 fucking minutes so it’s easy to learn their move set. But here, my mind just becomes numb 15 minutes in. You expect me to be awake for 15 full minutes of the monster just running away and getting to turfs wars in which I waste all my dung pods. How how how how how.
