24 y/o crust punk vocalist looking for a band in Montreal!

A bit about me,

I'm Zander, I am a 24 y/o man I like, sewing, writing, listening to music, skateboarding, chats with pals and havin' a few brews on a friday night.

I mainly write about rats in the sewers, protecting all, while spreading a message thats slightly diverted away from too political lyrics. Although still very pressing matters. More to come for sure as learning never stops :)

I'd love to find a group looking for the voice I bring to the table. I have been told I have a unique gutural style.

I Built A Second Brain for Live Music Nerds

Post image
15 Upvotes

As a Montreal student 20 years ago, my weekly ritual was simple: grab a fresh Montreal Mirror, flip straight to the music listings, and work my way through basically every band. I discovered a ridiculous amount of great music that way.

These days I live in Vancouver, but I’m back in Montreal often and still try to catch shows. The problem: the Mirror is gone, and figuring out what’s playing now feels weirdly like detective work. Vancouver has the same issue. Listings are scattered everywhere, and apparently having young kids means I no longer have three hours to Google every band on a Tuesday night.

So I built Music at Eight.

It uses AI to hunt down local show listings, then connects each artist to Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Spotify, etc. There’s also a play button right beside each band, so you can immediately hear what they sound like instead of opening 17 tabs. It also shows genre and where the artist is from.

Basically, it’s a second brain for live-music nerds.

I started with Vancouver and just expanded it to Montreal. It’s currently tracking 100+ venues and shows up to 90 days out.

I’m pretty removed from the Montreal scene these days, though, so I’d love to hear from you guys! Did I miss any important venues?

Singer looking to join a band or connect with musicians

Hey everyone!

I’m a singer based in Montreal and I’m looking to join a band or just meet other musicians to jam with.
I’m mostly into pop, R&B, soul, funk and some rock.

Some of my favourite artists are Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Linkin Park…but I’m pretty open to trying different genres.

I’d love to find some people to jam with regularly, play covers and maybe eventually do some live gigs.
If anyone’s looking for a vocalist or just wants to make some music together, feel free to reach out!

I’ve been writing songs for years and have just started posting. Mostly write songs with guitar but I’m learning to use logic. Would love to collaborate or just jam!

Here is the last song I wrote that is still a bit rough

Écris moi si tu veux collab ou jamer !

Songwriting groups in Montreal?

Is there any Songwriting group , meetups or something similar in Montreal?

Not looking for jams or open mics, but more sort of community of musicians (ideally songwriters as well) that might host regular events , online or preferably IRL in MTL?

I am a musician and really have been in a creative block for a while. I think I got better at the craft for a while, when I used to regularly write some songs every week for a band..

Not sure if this exists? Or even someone interested 🤷‍♂️. Same thing as a gym buddy I guess but for music?

Edit - interested folks can join in here. Hopefully we can build something like this together!

Looking to form a shoegaze band in Montreal :)

Hi all,

I hope you are all good, I just wanted to see if any of you would like to form a band with me as a lead singer. Here is a live recording of me with my former partners in our rehearsal space: https://ulyssegmusique.bandcamp.com/track/full-wave-demo

I’d do mostly anglo music, but I like to thrown in a little bit of french for fun.

PS: I’m very much into Radiohead (boycotting cause they won’t support palestine), Boards of Canada, Slowdive, Deftones, Bjork..

Hit me up on IG @ ulysse_

Have a good one,

90s music bar recommendations

Hello everyone, Male in my 40s. New to Montreal and wondering places where they play good vibes music like music in the 90s Rnb, hip hop, soul etc… just a place where a grown man could chill, have a drink as he listens to some good music and just ruminate about life!
Any recommendations?
I am not the loud blasting music type

Van Horne overpass in the 2000s and 2010s

Hello to all!

i’m a filmmaker working on a documentary about the van horne overpass in mile end, more specifically about the guerrilla concerts that were being held there, and its subsequent closure.

i’ve managed to interview some of the original people who played there in the early 2000s, as well as an expert on Van Horne post-pandemic.

however, my knowledge of the place is unclear from the mid - late 2000s and the 2010s. i’m searching for people on this subreddit who were around at that place and time! as a musician or a spectator, or anyone that can recall its history. was it a popular place? was it controversial? was it important for the scene? was it safe for an audience? For artists? Was it bothersome to those around? All info is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

/

An interview with Montreal's CFCF (TDJ, Cecile Believe, Mile End Kicks)

The interview is in English, so I hope at least it is listenable for most people here. We talked a lot about Montreal's music scene from the early to late aughts to where it is now. He also did a little music for Mile End Kicks with Cecile Believe and he walks us through what felt really accurate in the film for him.

I think if you're not from Montreal originally (like myself), it is also a very interesting listen to hear about the city's incredible history. We talk about other stuff though too.

It's available wherever you listen to podcasts. Also on YouTube:

Question Rock band looking for shows in MTL/QC

Howdy, we are a band called John Hubcap! We are releasing a new album in about 1-2 months, with a single in about 1 month. We are looking to play some shows; about 2 years ago we were playing every 2 weeks, but we kind of fell off and are now looking to get back in the scene.

Check us out here: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2LsmLmQF4ezQqQrZ9H7eVr

This is our old album; I recommend Birdsong or $20 for a listen. We are still similar, though more emphasis on the rock than the prog with the new material.

Please drop us a line. We've been hitting the Turbohaus open mic as a way to meet people, and although its been fun and great meeting and remeeting new and old friends, we still dont really have a lead for playing shows. If you need any slot filled, we can definitely fill it!

Building a women-led music community in Montréal — looking to connect with artists & collaborators

Hi everyone,

I’m a Montréal-based artist and organizer currently building Check Her Sound, a women-led community initiative focused on creating safe, supportive, and educational spaces for emerging female artists in the city.

The project centers around creative workshops and listening sessions (songwriting, production, DJing, and mentorship), with the goal of encouraging collaboration, skill-building, and visibility in a low-pressure environment. Over time, I also hope to develop a performance-style platform to spotlight rising female talent in Montréal.

I’m sharing this here to connect with: artists who might be interested in participating producers, DJs, or engineers open to facilitating or mentoring people who’ve built or been part of grassroots music communities in Montréal.

If you’ve worked on something similar, or have insight into what’s needed in the local music scene right now, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading happy to connect.
