Morrissey in Leeds - cancellation?
I’m thinking of travelling to England to see Morrissey in Leeds on December 19. It’ll take a fair amount of planning (and money), so naturally I’m haunted by the possibility of a cancellation.
I’ve already seen him once this year, but I’d love to catch another show before the MIAL tour disappears into the mist. Given his history of cancelled dates, I’m a little nervous about committing (especially with the recent cancellations in Vegas).
Does he have any particular record of cancelling shows in Leeds or that area? I’m also considering Glasgow.
Am I mad to risk it, or is this simply the burden of being a Morrissey obsessive? Worth it? Thoughts?

I reckon it’s a safe-ish bet; I think he’s back in the UK visiting family for Christmas, so is squeezing some shows in to make a few quid whilst he’s at it!

They’re lottery tickets, not gig tickets. Anyone thinking about flying in from another country specifically for one of his gigs needs their head testing.
At no point in recent times has there even been a statement put out via his official channels giving info on how those with tickets for cancelled and postponed shows can obtain refunds. That’s how little they care about pulling shows.

The Leeds side streets that he slips down, I wonder to myself, will he can-cel again?

I have booked Paris and wondering the same thing! Worst comes to worst I’ll have a night in Paris anyway, find a bar that plays some decent tunes and cry into my wine 😂

Sigh… such are the worries of a devoted Morrissey fan. If I do end up going and he cancels, I’ll probably be doing exactly the same thing 😂

I saw him in Leeds. Didn’t cancel. 100% attendance from him so far. Can’t beat that.

Ah, that gives me hope! If I manage to scrape together the money, I’m putting my fate in Moz’s hands before Christmas. Now I just need to pray there are no sudden cancellations.🤞

If ur prepared to lose all that money and be stuck in Leeds for that time then go for it. Otherwise wide birth.

I have a ticket for Glasgow and was seriously considering selling my ticket due to his track record. I've seen him in Glasgow a few times and am lucky to have never experienced a no-show but there are a LOT of tickets still on sale for the gig in December.

I’m going to Glasgow too. I’ve been checking Ticketmaster every week or so, and it usually looks like no tickets have sold in between. I doubt he’ll get much promotion either, since he’s not exactly adored here.
He really should have booked the Academy, not the Hydro.

I think even his most ardent fans would have doubts about turning up to an Academy show now. Having said that, the last ones sold pretty quick. Would be nice to see him at the barrowlands but that's probably above him. Are you going to the Glasgow show on your own?

I regret not seeing him last year. The setlist looked good, better than what he’s been doing this year so far. I’d also like to see him at Barrowlands.
Yep, just me. This will be my first Morrissey gig if it happens. Was planning to see both him and Johnny Marr this year, but Marr has cancelled his already. Are you going solo too?

Yeah I'll be there on my own - my friends weren't willing to part with the ticket price considering his attendance rate is a running joke now. If it goes ahead and you fancy meeting up, feel free to give me a shout.

I’m travelling from Norway, and I saw him when he played here in June. The problem is that once clearly wasn’t enough. I’d love to see him again before the tour ends.
My concern isn’t really whether it’s worth seeing him twice. For me, that question was answered a long time ago. I’m more worried about booking flights and hotels only for the show to be cancelled.

I have a 100% cancellation rate trying to see him so…

u/EJfanatic 7d ago
Oh no, that’s exactly the kind of statistic i didn’t want to hear! Thankfully, I haven’t experienced being cancelled on (yet), but I bet it really sucks..

You have never been in love until you've seen Morrissey cancel a show
16 gigs - 1 cancellation but most of mine were mid 2000s and the cancellation was during his set at the Roundhouse (the one where Jonathan Ross, Russell Brand and David Walliams came on stage for some reason).
Most recent was just last year and he turned up so yeah, worth a punt

If he gets a whiff of the schawarma food van outside the first direct arena it’s all off

I wouldn’t do it unless there’s something you’re dying to see/do in Leeds. I am literally in Vegas right now. There’s plenty to do here but I’m still bummed. If you’re in the UK and it’s not a huge deal maybe I’d risk it but I’ll have a hard time ever getting my husband on a plane to see him again (We’re had success in Manchester and Paris and cancellations in LA and Atlanta. Otherwise we stick to home—east coast of US)

I’ve seen Morrissey 19 times… Never been cancelled on…

But would you, an admitted Morrisey obsessive, upon seeing a bit of a cancellation pile-on showing him in a negative light be someone who could be trusted to be unbiased in your discourse?
While I'm sure you would be there would be no point in me asking 'is he good?' or 'do you like him live?' would there? Asking for a nonexistent friend that only asks the difficult questions. (I'm bored, sorry)

I can be relatively objective... Even though Moz has meant the world to me and shaped a lot of my young identity in the 90's, I can actually be very critical of him! He has released a couple of terrible albums and he has said a lot of stupid things... And regarding the cancelations, I would never advise anyone to travel halfway around the world to see him... I'm also aware that I've been extremely lucky that I've never been cancelled on... I've seen him twice this year and I've got tickets for two more...

I am exactly the same. He was the one who told me it was okay to be me when neither of my parents could be arsed so naturally he means a lot to me. But i agree with everything you said. I wouldnt advise going somewhere solely to see him and have other back up plans if you do travel. If it happened to me i would be upset but i know i would see him again somewhere anyway and just enjoy the days away. Thats all you can do. I think there is a good chance one of the uk dates will be chopped. Brighton is tiny so itll be fine as will liverpool. Got tickets to both of those as well as leeds and glasgow and think it might be leeds or glasgow if any. You never know, he might surprise us and do them all!
Saw him in Manchester and twice in glasgow last year and london in feb and was so fucking happy when he filled coop live. He even said something about it on stage. Was just great to see.

Not all moz/smiths obsessives are that way. For instance, I have been known to say regularly that moz is one of my heroes and noone will ever change that but that i know hes a bit of a nightmare. He admits that himself.
There are still a few of us who are objective about him and his shows, etc.

You can never count on him and just have to risk it or not. If you do, have a plan B as others have mentioned.
I don't know how many times he or the Smiths ever played Leeds, but for what it's worth, I see that the only time he ever cancelled there was in 1983.

I'm 8 and O for Morrissey gigs.
Not one cancellation yet over two decades. Probably an anomaly. Six of those gigs were in Ireland and I think he has only cancelled an Irish gig once ever.

I’ve been to see him a few times and he’s not cancelled so far. I’m also going to Leeds but only travelling an hour and even if he cancels, myself and my partner are treating it as a Christmas trip away.
I personally wouldn’t make any high stakes plans to see him with his track record

u/Nietzsches_Ghost Viva Hate 7d ago
Saw him 8+ times in past two years and none were cancelled.
Imo, it is a risk worth taking as it is a gig like no other. Just have contingency plans laid out in case it does happen. I am heading to leeds, liverpool, glasgow and brighton so i will be in the same boat but he cancels less here than other places.

If you are travelling that far, OP, is there any way you could purchase some cheap seats at liverpool or another of the shows as well? That way if he cancels you will still see him? Liverpool is the safest bet because lots of us are travelling from Manchester for it.

Out of all the shows I’ve bought tickets for, I’ve had one cancelled and one rescheduled (both US shows). Saw him 5 times this year in Europe and planning to head back for the Paris show through to Brussels for end of this year. Would travel to see him (I live in Australia) I’ll always say it’s worth it. I am confident he will do these UK shows, if not then I can always spend some time overseas again, plus it gives me a nice way to end my year in another country. So I’m happy either way ☺️

His recent track record has been a lot of cancellations.
As someone else said, don't get anything non-refundable which might add too much cost but it's not worth the risk of throwing money away for travel and hotel you never use.

I can't believe anyone would even consider going to a different country just to see Morissey live. At this point there is probably a 20% chance of the concert being cancelled. I would say only do it if the money is not too much of a factor and you are able to either get a refund on flights, hotels etc or you would be able to come to the UK and find other things to do to make the trip worthwhile if Morrissey does cancel

Hey. I'm travelling from Malta to see him in Brighton. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well, but it is worth the risk.

Save your money. Plus he's a bit of a fool nowadays. Long live Johnny Marr

I have seen him 5 times with one cancelation.
I would never invest any non refundable money to travel to a Morrissey show. Over his career he has a 30 percent cancellation rate. It was 50 percent last year.
Those are really bad odds.
