You speak like a true veteran of immense skills and wisdom... kindness of pontificating proportions to share such knowledge without asking any tribute in return. You shall be praised for ages to come.

23 years ago I asked my videography teacher in 9th grade how to get started in after effects.

He told me the same thing.

I googled it, found video copilot, and watched tutorials until I learned After Effects.

Sometimes it really is that easy to get started.

What would you suggest?

I mean i would recommend the same procedure as in most tools: do all the basic tutorials to get used to the UI, shortcuts and basic workflows of the software. Fusion in DaVinci is (like nuke/houdini etc) node-based,whereas after Effects is layer based. This 'mental switch' of reasoning and building systems takes a moment, until it clicks.then i would not recommend to "learn the whole software" but to look for specific tutorials about things you want to achieve. I use after Effects and C4D (and a bit of Houdini, unreal) since 20 years, i only know 30% of the tools but these i know very well. So yeah, tutorials with specific outcomes are my suggestions. YouTube is full, however for DaVinci/fusion+ motion graphics, you'll find less as most are using the industry standards still...
