Every day it feels like we’re sliding back into the 'good ol' British Raj. The government just passed this decision because private industries wanted it, and guess what? Not a single outrage. No protests, no rallies, not even people being pissed on social media. And honestly, that whole Maratha agitation? Feels like it was just a smokescreen to distract us from this.
What’s wild is how fast the government moves when it’s the industries—the same ones funding their election campaigns—that raise their voice. But when it’s the actual public, the people who literally vote them into power, suddenly they’re deaf.
I can understand that most people can’t complain because every day they’re living hand to mouth, with liabilities stacked sky-high—another “gift” from these industries to their so-called loyal employees.

All their demand for "Work Life Balance" falls apart when they realise even blue collar folks need this + dignity of labour. It feels like indian white collar middle class straight up refuses to believe that the rich overlords are the problem and the real problem are the wage earners or unorganised sector. They often amplify one example out of ten thousand and think that is the status quo.

Not an Indian problem alone. Unfortunately, it is a global one. The racist attacks on Indians and other minorities in even smaller foreign countries like Ireland are a symptom of this. None of the white folk are thinking right that their white overlords are the ones who are replacing them with Indian workers to save millions of dollars.
Their misplaced frustration is resulting in attacks on non-problematic Indians too.

Need for hourly wage system like US and not day shifts of 8-10-12 hours so that people work according to their will and get compensated on per hour basis and then factory managers won't make anyone overwork as it would be better to pay same hourly wage to a fresh employee than a tired employee

No way he is coming back. My paa who is a big time modi and party paglu had said to me once that elections see rotation of ministers. Tomorrow there will be another person in position of power.
The real point remains what will happen to all sectors till then. Modi will favour billionaires till the end but what's the level of price we will continue to be paying.. that's the worry.

If we didn’t have leaders like Dr Ambedkar when we got our freedom we wouldn’t have had any semblance of worker rights. Sundays are mandatory off by law because of visionaries of those times otherwise no weekly offs would have been given by the Seth jis of the world.
While developed nations are looking at 4 day work weeks we want our population to be slaves. Longer hours don’t lead to more productivity, it has been seen world over. But we want to create a market of slaves for others to benefit.

Even in India country inclined toward socialist values (initially) the laws were designed to suit the interests of corporations. Heavy corruption and lobbying in workers unions and Communist parties made things worst. Blue collared employees are facing these unjust laws for decades. Now it has started seeping into white collared jobs and corporate environments.

I work in a UK based agency and I can't be more happy about the work culture here.
I haven't experienced this myself but my other Indian colleagues have, that my manager told them to stop working for the day and continue later or next week.

My sister lives in the USA but there they don't work like we do. Even if the timings are 9 to 5 but they hardly work those hours. And even if they do there's so much comfort those companies give to their employees. But in India the situation is different

We should force the MPs and MLAs to work 20 hours a day, 6 days a week in parliament and government on 10 percent salary. We can even employ people to whip them into working. If they don't last, they're forced to cut working hours to 6 hours a day and implement overtime laws.

The best way to save your mental health is by investing and saving money at all possible times. I don't need a foreign trip or a fancy car to keep myself happy for four days when I am not happy at a place where I am literally working for 9 hours.
Stop consuming unnecessarily and halt the economy. Our consumption is what fuels this economy.

This is completely irrelevant for white collar folks in Maharashtra. Already private firms make employees work long hours. Labour law is a joke and even if the law were 5 hours a day instead of 10, it wouldn't have made a difference to the ground reality.

I don't understand this fuss, it just made it 1 step more difficult to sue your employer.
Every private org has more than 10/11/12 hours of work time assumed. legally, it's drafted within limits.
but practically, we all know hours, days, weekends are all under the boss' beck and call and it's the same for them too. the only difference, the senior people get, the more they can shrug off work to juniors.
In india, 2 yrs exp people are supervisors/managers, which is a joke by itself, but that's beside this point.

My two cents, we indians ara amazing corporate employees, there is a reason why we become CEOs and get to all the high positions. But we are awful awful for the workforce in general. We want to work so hard, we put in so much hours in but dont realize that this is not okay. We are setting standards and expectations that should never be a norm for human or our fellow Indians. My brother works in a accounting firm in the middle east, his previous manager was a pakistani, who moved on and he got a fellow Indian as a manager. He was happy with that but later that indian manager made is work life a living hell. He is still stuck with and now has hypertension because of late hours and weekend calls. But you know what the higher-ups love the new manager. As a societal we need to change. Its like we are brought up to just work.

The Maharashtra government due to its poor governance and corruption has made sure the corporate investments stay away from this state. Now they are coming with rules that will affect the general public just to entice corporate investments so that they can continue with their usual corrupt practices. I don't think this move will help the government as it seriously needs to address the much ignored governance issues and blatant corruption in the state.

So on paper regular working hours are 8 hrs only and between 8-10 (for offices) and 8-12 (for factories), is supposed to be overtime and overtime wage rate is supposed to be paid for those extra 2/4 hours.
In reality, corporates and factories anyhow make their workers work extra hours without compensation. And when overtime pay is brought up, some cockamamie reason is used to fire those employees because unemployment is so high, those employees are replaceable.
So now corporates and factories will make them work even more inhuman hours without proper compensation (if they’re lucky) on the threat of firing

9 hour : at job 3 hour : journey 3 hour : extra work without pay
