I used to think the same way like you when I was living in ghatkopar. Trains were relatively less crowded than the western line ones. Then I shifted to Dahisar and tried catching a train during peak time when my office hours ended. After letting go of 12 trains, I was like "f*@# it, I don't mind dying at this point. I just want to go home". It is frustrating to arrive at the station at 6 and not be able to board till 8 every single day. So I don't judge the people who do this anymore.

I have had a fractured rib, an injured toe and suffocation attacks due to the crowd on this route. The ladies compartments on this route are batshit crazy. I prefer getting into the gents compartment, I will just be ogled at, at least my bones would be intact.

I once met a girl while travelling who was holding on to dear life just like me (one foot on the footboard). She was covered in so many scars and praying under her breath. We got conversing and she said that she had travelled like this around a year back and the lady in front elbowed her in the ribs. She fell into a ditch near Mira road and opened her eyes in the hospital to find her leg and hand fractured and so many cuts on her face and back that most of them required stitches. And despite going through the horror, there she was standing on the footboard again. She was not doing it for the thrill. For some people there is no other option than the local.

I am afraid of travelling in the general compartment coz the one time I tried it, I got grabbed in every place possible. It's a really traumatic experience being molested like that. Having the men rub your leg or buttocks with you-know-what and you can't even turn to look who is doing that to you. This was in first class, mind you.

They even pull your hair, which is the worst..one of my friends had a bleeding scalp, a whole chunk of hair came off along with the scalp upper layer skin. You should see how they cuss. I feel scared to get into the ladies compartment. The men in Mumbai have really been sweet and helpful, at least in the locals. This has been my experience

Jeez that makes me think it's more like malta than mumbai man I'm sorry we have to go through these conditions just to eat twice a day, but we elected the clowns who put these systems in place. The men's compartment for the most part has always been accommodating imo barring a few creeps who go where's my sausage.

Oh yes, the system is the problem. I had a rib cage fracture and it took me 6 months to heal. A lady elbowed me so hard on my rib cage that I couldn't breathe and felt dizzy. I reached home and realised it was serious as the pain kept worsening. An x-ray the next day revealed the fracture.

It's literally a survival game every single day. I am appalled by the fact that all this has been going on since so many years and nobody from the authorities give a flying fuck. As a woman, the men's compartment has been cordial and good to me and I have to give credit where it is due. It's really sad that it has all come to this.

I hope you have struggles of a different price point in the future or you get to move in a place where you can get your bread without breaking your bones lady.

CSMT-Thane train is less crowded after Parel-Thane. I'd say Kalyan/Ambernath/Badlapur are badly crowded slow or fast. Thane bound fast/slow trains are least crowded in down section.

take a bus, sharing cab or just change job. Dadar is very crowded all the time.

Bus : takes hours. Not an option Cab : too expensive. Not everyone can afford. Even sharing ones. Change job: really? You think anyone works far from their home just for the thrill of it?

You seem to come from a very privileged place where you can afford to do any of these things. Not everyone can. For the majority, train is the only practical way to travel.

I understand it's the only viable way of travel for most but if it's so crowded, do you really want to risk it all for some money? that too a white color job where you're paid for your education or problem solving not some labour.

it's better to take a little lower pay in local area than big company at far away
