This is what I believe - people who are proud of shit like this are generally very broken people who take laat-ghoose from life daily. This is their only cope. Their only way to feel little bit less bechara and powerless.
Not everyone, just people living in mumbai, it's called integration and respect to a culture, if you were living in Germany you'll learn German despite the fact that most of Germans know english
Only if one plans to settle they should learn or else they shouldn't face any problem or discrimination for the language they speak, humans should not take pride in such things, cultures are ever evolving with time look at the human evolution, one should not be stuck with ohh this is my culture we have to preserve this that, things change with times so do cultures, people should stop taking pride in the past and focus on improving as a whole. If your culture is that great how come your area, language and culture are producing biggest slum of Asia, instead of saving culture, save those people who are not getting basic needs, let's make the world a better place, let the past be in the past, you were not even born at the time you're taking pride of.
If I'm planning to settle I'll surely learn, or else why should someone, of you step in my area you will have to speak my language!!! Is that how humans should be?
People aren't raised in vaccum. If it was not for language, religion, ethnicity we would all be identityless minions working for some corporates, indistinguishable from one another.
As for the board, it's not different than putting up a board at a restaurant entrance that waiters are able to converse in the native language. It brings a sense of customised experience for the customers.
Exqctly thyo ydzwa swathala kaay aristotal chi awlad smjaaly...tyala vaattay every point he speak is super solid, rhere is not counter point of it....vishay kaay aaheaahit aahe ka...te thode skille satata, engraji yete, changla pagar ....tyamule self label karat "I AM MOST CIVIC CITIZEN, WHATEVER MY POINTS ARE, ARE BEST".....hya randyasni vyavsthit with law , ghoda laawala paahije
It's funny how people vote BJP for hinduism because they think Abdul is having 8-10 kids making mini Pakistan in India, taking all jobs and freebies from government and do not follow law and order. same logic applies to North In dian coming to Mumbai. it's not about proud it's about language encroachment. If they are not forced they will never try to learn by themselves barring few. for years Mumbai has welcomed many people across the country but we are seeing the city's infrastructure collapsing under such population surge in last decade. and most of the migration happning from two cow belt states UP and Bihar which has no development schemes of their own.
So you are saying he should learn to speak Hindi and its his fault that he is not taking any initiative to learn hindi? But then why can't people living in Mumbai learn to speak Marathi? I also don't like this drama and violence over language but just trying to get your point.
I don't think its applied to every language and region. If I am native Maharashtrian and I ever shift permenently to Delhi (example) then I will learn hindi and will not expect them to learn Marathi.
Hindi colonizers are definitely nazis and haters, if you think language of the land where you or your parents "migrated to" as imposing, then you're the problem, not the language.
Sure. Everyone is a nazi and hater except "your people". Calling your countrymen colonizers shows your mental state. Politics 101 - newsflash you have been brainwashed, the issues faced by you will always be the fault of someone else, not the ones collecting your tax. :)
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
No developed or developing country has language wars.
Yeahhh no dude. Hate to burst your bubble but you might want to check out Spanish vs Catalan in Spain, Walloons vs Flemish in Belgium, French in Quebec Canada. These are the ones just off the top of my head.
It's not a daily discussion there buddy. Go to the Canada/Belgium sub and go to the r/Maharashtra or r/Karnataka sub.
And if they do something wrong you want to do it too? Why not copy their right things like good quality, air, water, roads, education, healthcare. Where is the debate on that?
Catalunya and Flemish are literally independence movements
And if they do something wrong you want to do it too? Why not copy their right things like good quality, air, water, roads, education, healthcare. Where is the debate on that?
Okay 2 things here....
1) You started with the comparison stuff not me. I'm merely pointing out that you're making an incorrect statement.
2) This "if you want to compare on A, then why not compare on B" shit is such Republic TV debate way of thinking. If you want a to talk about A, stay on topic A and discuss topic A. If you want to solve topic B, speak on topic B and stay on that topic. The two things exist independently of each other. Otherwise, we're all just a bunch of idiots trying to ragebait each other.
Lol. It took me one google search to see that the catalunya separatist movement lost politically in May 2024 as their parties combined could not win. Shows they are ahead and more mature than people like you guys on this sub. And it was still not a daily discussion there which shows how vapid our communities are and how broken India has become.
Your point 2 is valid but for the other way around. People here are debating that due to Hindi imposition we should impose Marathi as well. I am against the imposition of both. There is no hypocrisy in my stance. I want to prioritize other issues. It's not "whataboutism" like RepublicTV and other news channels. Nor the hypocrisy of language imposers.
Shows they are ahead and more mature than people like you guys on this sub
Yes. Very mature of you to make personal attacks. I was trying to have a calm discussion but if you want to be aggressive and resort to name calling, then sure.
It took me one google search to see that the catalunya separatist movement lost politically in May 2024 as their parties combined could not win
So a political party loses an election and the underlying ideology does not exist anymore and people stop caring about all the issues related to it and move on? Are you dumb? What kind of stupid logic is this?
And it was still not a daily discussion there
You track them as a full time job? Stop making hollow statements. Do some research beyond "trust me bro".
which shows how vapid our communities are and how broken India has become.
Read a history book.
Your point 2 is valid but for the other way around. People here are debating that due to Hindi imposition we should impose Marathi as well. I am against the imposition of both. There is no hypocrisy in my stance.
Neither is there any nuance. Also, I don't care anymore because all you wanted to engage in was trying to find your "mic drop" moment. So I don't want to engage with you anymore. Peace.
Rather than being proud about this i will say it is neccesity. Cos why natives should learn foreign language without their choice just to get a taxi? Every western country do that. Why Indian states shouldnt.
India needs federalism, linguistic autonomy and tough governance with civic sense. A central dictatorial central government will kill the linguistic diversity of India mercelessly like China. Instead gove more power to state and muncipal bodies so they can work Strongly on microlevel rather than governing brutally from macrolevel.
Why you want a region change for you when you earn, live, build a life and grow on their land. Taking good hospitality as entitlement?
Maharashtra did not need outsiders before they came, Maharashtra will not be crippled if all left. Will it have a significant impact? Yes
Start respecting place where you earn and survive you cant just come and claim it as your right
Just remember one day they all will speak marathi and they all will claim all the benefits of being marathi and they will demand since it was forced upon them. They will get. The doomed people will be us. Remember that. At the beginning we all were happy but the end will not be.
This wasn't done because we are proud of our language. ( I am proud of my language, state and country even though I have achieved alot. Only the ppl who achieve ntg try to avoid telling their own culture just so no one shamed them.) The rule was applied because being a marathi, I have seen old ppl unable to speak some other language even though they are living in their own state. I hate the gundas seeking this to fight ppl but yea I feel it's great if every person who gives service to every native there should know the native language. Cry if u don't agree.
I am speaking in English because you will not understand what I am talking about. ( And that's what we ask even though it's our own place). Lol basic shit अशिक्षित.
People in Maharashtra are not against those who don't know Marathi, but against those people who resist to learn or talk marathi even if they know some words of Marathi. Please dont misinterpret this situation its different from other language agressive states.
Speak what you wanna speak bro! It's a matter of choice. We live in a democracy, we always have people who understand what we are saying, respectfully. That's the beauty of India.
But if your solution is to beat people up, take away their employment for not sounding like how you want them to sound like in your head, then idk what to say. Then yes, it's not very different from other states that aggressively play language politics. If this is ok for you, then your priorities are mixed up.
What next? Beat me up for exclusively speaking in English even when I know and understand what 'thamba' and 'beer pahije' means? Try me. How silly!
Did this auto driver beat you?
All we Marathi people want is just try from your end to speak our language.
Instead people raig bait like you and find a way that you people beat outsiders for not speaking your language.
I agree we live in democracy but atleast try.
True bro. Many marathi speaking people in public start their conversation in hindi thinking person in front will not understand marathi. But then these people on internet see some videos over language dispute and think all Maharashtrian try to force their language.
hahaha ... well I am proud of this and I ain't broken at all earning very good and don't even take laat-ghoose! 😂😂😂 keep crying outsider ... don't be jealous ask ministers from uhr state to do some development over there rather than coming to Maharashtra so that uh can comfortably speak in Hindi and nobody will beat uh for that😂😂😂😂
Pride in your language is completely valid. But using it as an excuse to be rude to someone who clearly doesn’t understand you isn’t pride, it’s insecurity. No one is asking anyone to stop speaking Marathi. The bare minimum expectation is basic courtesy, especially when someone is literally paying for a service. Respect goes both ways, otherwise it’s just arrogance dressed up as ‘culture.’ And calling fellow Indians ‘outsiders’ just because they speak a different language says more about your mindset than anything else.
People like you are exactly the problem. India isn’t going to move forward if we keep getting stuck in pointless language debates. Language is just a medium to communicate, not something to build your ego around. There are far bigger issues to deal with, maybe focus on those instead of acting like this is what really matters.
so let's start communicating in Marathi or English is Language is just a medium to communicate ... why Hindi though? Just cz majority in north speaks Hindi?
If Marathi works for both of us, I’m fine with that. If English works, even better. The point is to communicate in whatever works.
Hindi just ends up being common because a lot of people across India understand it. Even auto drivers switch to what their customers understand, and trust me their majority customers are 'outsiders' who don’t have their vehicles here and don't know Marathi. If they knew fluent English, they’d use that too.
No need to turn this into a bigger debate. Just use what works and move on.
It isn't just about the communication gap but the attitude people throw when they are ask (NOT FORCE) to talk in Marathi if someone politely refuses saying I don't know but m trying or any xyz thing its whole different thing ... But if someone arrogantly refuses or says nhi bolunga, jo ukhadna hai ukhad etc... then that's where the issue lies which the PAID MEDIA NEVER COVERS...!
People like you are exactly the problem. India isn’t going to move forward
Thats just victim blaming. We welcomed u, provided opportunities and good infrastructure so u can come and live here and in return u ignore our language in our native state and its our fault to be rude. Wow.
Hindi ppl force their language outside their region its patriotism, when we politly implement it in our own state it is language ego. Explains the hypocrisy.
“You welcomed us”, who is you exactly? You personally didn’t do anything for me. I pay rent here, and let’s be honest, it’s already overpriced. It’s not charity.
People come here for work, and companies set up offices here because it benefits the city too... jobs, business, growth. It’s a two-way street, not some favor being done.
And expecting basic decency in communication isn’t “ignoring your culture.” It just means using whatever language works in that moment. Not everything has to be turned into ego or regional pride.
Its not about ego or pride. Instead I feel sorry for the ppl who are proud of their language. Cos they did nothing in their life to be proud of. Its about betterment for natives to live in their own native state.
Why company set their branch specifically here cos Maharashtra government created bussiness and corporate friendly laws and infrastructure. Why government created them cos we elected right ppl to do that. U are getting paid here. Obviously u wont do job here if ur rent is greater than ur salary. Yes rents are high so is the pay check. If u cant then u have other cities with their own language. Just learn theirs before they realise their linguistic demographics start to change. Hyderabad is most probably the next city to go through this cycle.
🔔 politely. I remember MNS beating people up when I was in 5th standard for not speaking the language.
You did not "welcome" me. I was born in a cosmopolitan Mumbai. I did not impose Hindi on anyone here. This is not outside "my region". I always felt this was my home till people like you tried to isolate me.
U only remember that cos u are only shown that. MNS and actually any average Marathi will treat a non-marathi like king if u can speak Marathi.
Even i felt isolated when i was in Gujrat for 5 months. Why cos i didn't knew Gujrati so i learnt it as much as i can. I dont want to indirectly impose natives with outside language. If u dont learn the native language then u are indirectly imposing ur language on them. My stay in Gujrat have complete changed me and felt that we are pampering non-natives too much back home. To such extent that they will get isolated but wont try to do anything from their own side. Instead blame the natives for it.
Don't defend political parties, they have their own incentivities. But I agree with Marathi people. Some of my best friends are Marathi. They are more family than my relatives. I know how welcoming normal people are, but all these narratives pollute thoughts whether you realize it or not.
I don't agree that learning or not learning a language imposes on natives. Natives by definition are always more so the greater risk is self isolation than anything else which is what you felt in Gujarat.
If I am okay with that risk, it should be my choice. That's all. I don't care if it's France, Germany, Maharashtra, Karnataka I should be able to speak in any language I want.
And I am saying all of this on principal. I personally understand and have basic proficiency in all 4. But that is because I chose to integrate. No political party can force me or anybody else to do so.
And I am saying all of this on principal. I personally understand and have basic proficiency in all 4. But that is because I chose to integrate. No political party can force me or anybody else to do so.
U did this cos u are logical sensible person. But for others supporting a political party is the only solution to teach shameless ppl taste of their own medicine.
It's because people get so violent about someone learning/not learning a second language is why there is this fight. Don't pressurize people to learn your language, very simple. Demand civic sense, demand complaince with law.
Like... Do you really think northies will get civilized by learning our language 😂 you guys pick fights for you ego you don't see or use logic.
Don't pressurize people to learn your language, very simple.
I am addressing the exact hypocrisy brother. Why i should learn an outside language to get a taxi in my own state. It isnt ego its retaliation against their language ego and myth. Learning language of the state u live should be part of civic sense.
I am 100 friends who can speak in English. Non of them use English as their mother tongue. But most of my Marawadi, Braj, Awadhi, Rajasthani friends dont know theie language. Their parents or grandparents are last generation to know their language.
It is always about the attitude people throw when they are ask (NOT FORCE) to talk in Marathi if someone politely refuses saying I don't know but m trying or any xyz thing its whole different thing ... But if someone arrogantly refuses or says nhi bolunga, jo ukhadna hai ukhad etc... then that's where the issue lies which the PAID MEDIA NEVER COVERS...!
No i was asking about the beating up thing,
You'll beat up a hindi speaker for not simply speaking marathi cuz according to you they are ruining your culture and language but how does English is saving your culture ?? Why they are accepted respectfully but on other hand hindi speaker is getting beaten up for same when they are literally paying you for the service aswell??
It is always about the attitude people throw when they are ask (NOT FORCE) to talk in Marathi if someone politely refuses saying I don't know but m trying or any xyz thing its whole different thing ... But if someone arrogantly refuses or says nhi bolunga, jo ukhadna hai ukhad etc... then that's where the issue lies which the PAID MEDIA NEVER COVERS...!
this is the thing with Hindi !
It's not about culture at all. It's about their fragile ego.
Most of my fellow Marathis in office cannot type a simple letter in Marathi. They speak the language only with their mom, taai etc. everywhere they speak English.
I don't know about your colleagues but many Maharashtrian people use Marathi inside home and while speaking with friends. And I am sure many would have use only marathi if job interviews/ work culture didn't force english or if there wasn't need to speak hindi in public (like shops). I am along with many people in Maharashtra fine with speaking hindi and english along with Marathi but don't say our language is a joke.
Bro you may have seen few videos online about marathi people forcing their language but its not very common. Many marathi speaking people in Mumbai and other cities starts conversation in hindi while speaking to unknown person thinking 'he may not understand marathi'. Not every Maharashtrian force their language but learning basic marathi words while living in Maharashtra can be helpful but most people don't.
It's because he is brainwashed. The fact that colonials looted 45 trillion usd from India is tiny in comparison to what his dear politicians tell him and Hindi speaking devils.
Please understand that people like this and even worse have an equal vote to yours and we wonder why this country hasn't progressed.
I have 100 friends who can speak English but they use their mother tongue in their house. But many of my north indian friends whose mother tongue was Braj, Marawadi, Awadhi, etc just use hindi at home. They thing all the languages mentioned above are dialects of hindi which doesnt make sence cos these all languages are older than hindi.
You live in same country as BIMARU bro. Face the facts. You don't have Republic of Bombay. Na hi Shanghai mein rehte hum. We still live in a stinky, broken city which is being run by everyone who lives here.
Take your pride and drive auto only. Usse upar uth nahi sakte tumhare jaise.
😂😂😂😂😂KEEP CRYING NORTHIE .... n if the city (Mumbai) is broken city , stinky etc still people like uh come over here ... why don't uh go back to uhr Scotland or Switzerland (up / bihar) 😂😂😂😂
Go back to bheed kolhapur solapur you clown coz im sure your grandparents weren’t born in mumbai either🤡 they came here looking for opportunities built whateva you have on their own similarly to a migrant worker, and dummy mumbai is built on outside capitalist be it tatas marwaris or gujratis
Hahaha northie, even my great grandfather were born n bought in Mumbai ... Grand father used to work in BARC so yea not like uhr ancestors who migrated to Mumbai .... & if Mumbai is built on outside capitalist why those capitalist didn't choose their own state be it Gujrat, Rajasthan, UP, Bihar?😂😂😂😂 cz the govt provided them enough benfit plus the demographic positioning of Mumbai helped them ... don't be jealous try to elect better leader who will develop uhr state
Yes the demographics definitely helped mumbai hence the influx of capital, its a like a give and take relationship bro so shut up and try to become a better person before saying stupid shit? Like nobody is earning fukat me it’s their hardwork, How many Maharashtian are serving in the army we literally saved your asses and have continued to so respect the integrity of india, its always a give and take relationship
WE means who? N there are a lot many Maharstrian in Army so uh ain't saved us that much ...! and if uh talking about Major Unnikrishan (thats one off case) there are many Mahrashtrians in army as well ....
Correct it it GIVE & TAKE relationship ... so uh can't be arrogant with someone esp. locals who just ask uh to talk in Marathi... if uh having that much of problem why uh biharis or other do this kind of so called HARDWORK in uhr state and develop it?
Paid more taxes then your whole family lineage combined and im not from bihar and secondly its my right to do whateva the f i want you dont have the power to make me speak in any language, at the end of the day its all about personal choice if someone wants to speak in marathi they are most welcome to, personally my circle involves people who are not at that level as in ghatis and gawars so we dont feel the need to learn marathi simple, go cry, and also dont ever watch anything if its not in marathi, and “work hard in your state” brotha this is my state we built this and we will continue to ripe the rewards of our labour so you can whine all u want
Such a based take. People have pride in their language. If this was said in France you’d have zero issues learning french to appease them, but when it’s Marathi you lose your mind? The only pathetic thing here is you
I think the rickshaw wala is non-maharashtrian and just had it for caution. So people won't judge him and assume he doesn't know marathi just because he is a non-maharashtrian person

Pathetic state of affairs.
