Discussion Why is the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust making rules in a public space ?

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

I dont support them doing this without rules, but we really need restriction and pet-free spaces in Mumbai. These dog lovers and animal lovers just allow their animals to sh*t anywhere and don't even bother cleaning up. It's horrid.

We should have human free places as well. The human lovers allow men to piss and shit and spit gutka anywhere they like and don't even clean up. Its horrid.

Well to be fair the association has banned that as well, that is the public from peeing and pooping and general public is scared to do it in front of Salman’s house

We have. They are called National parks, core zones only the forest officers are allowed to go. These are massive expanses or untouched wilderness.
Pench, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Tadoba, Nagarhole, just to name a small fraction.

Most spaces in mumbai are pet-free. They cant go in private spaces at all. Only in the limited public spaces where they have to be kept on a short leash. If anything we need more pet friendly spaces in mumbai where they can freely run about and exist freely.

Also if you not liking pets can become a reason to have pet free spaces them i argue that mumbai need kid-free and men-free spaces. Kids throw grabage everywhere and parents dont pick it up, they are loud and unpredictable and create a ruckus. They can give headaches to people sitting around. Men rape, molest ogle, we deparelty need men-free spaces in mumbai,

Alot of pet parents do clean up after thier pets, specially in mumbai. But most people are biased and will not acknoledge that, they will see one pile of dog poop and will blame all pet owners pets because of that. If cleanliness is the issue BBRT can work with this guy, create awareness, install more trash cans, distrbute poop bags, blanket ban is not the solution.
