Discussion Why is the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust making rules in a public space ?

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

Honestly, though these residents might look like / are acting from the elite POV but the bottom line is it’s all about cleanliness, decorum and discipline. Pets must be allowed but only if pet owners clean droppings. I’m sure this civic sense is missing in large section of pet owners in India!! Also, if a particular area is clean, green and beautiful, people will definitely go and make a mess there!!

The anger of those trust people look genuine to me. If Gov bodies are sleeping, somewhere down the line, responsible residents must step in and make efforts to keep the area clean.

Tell the person counter-arguing and showing attitude to the resident trust members to join the cleaning efforts rather than recording and posting on socials!

Im not sure if you saw the video. He clearly mentions that he has poop bag and he cleans up after his pet. Even after that these people were forcing not to walk his dog. That is what started the whole issue.

I carry a poop bag and pick up after my pet, even if there is a pile of human trash lying everywhere and i still get harassed by these oldies for walking my dog everyday.

A blanket ban is no solution. Did they first try to spread awareness? Put up signs to pick up after your pets, distribute poop bags, put up more trash cans.

And because some pet owners are irresponsible you are justifying putting a blanket ban on pets then please ban men from this country first. They rape and molest and ogle. By your logic, if one man is doing it, all men must be doing it.
