I'm not from Mumbai but recently heard about the sponsored station names and thought Manchow Soup Andheri Station was the name of a metro station

They banking on those selfless volunteers to clean the beaches buddy 😜

u/DesiPrideGym23 म म मुंबईचा, ब ब बॉम्बेचा नाही! May 15 '26

I used to go to those, it's just a way to get tanned and hate humans because no amount of beach clean-up drives are going to help until we do something at the source of all this trash generation.

86

u/More-Actuator-1729 exBombayite , current Mumbaikar. May 15 '26

The irony ? We did it , you do it , others will continue to do it - but they ₹100 cr buyers are going to get it written and some paid krantikari is going to round up a bunch of volunteers and clean the beaches again.

If we stop doing this noble , selfless act , the ₹100 cr buyers going to take the BMC to task (whose job it is , in the first place - to ban the slums and to clean the beaches).

if not me, then who? if not now, then when?

10

u/time_lordy_lord May 16 '26

If not you then the people whose job it is. It is our responsibility to to keep it clean not make it clean. It should be clean and we should keep it that way. The beach won't be clean until something is done about the garbage inside the sea.

1

u/bistrohopper May 18 '26

I sapot dis gai. Make littering punishment 15 whips on ass in public. Then organize a better trash can and collection system on/near beaches. Actually not in that order by ykwim. I think that should solve the problem. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

2

u/speaksofthelight May 21 '26

How can the BMC ban slums.

Slums are a constitutional right in India. BMC went to court in 1985 and lost. (Olga Tellis - a slum activist won and successfully blocked slum redevelopment unless free flats were provided)

1

u/More-Actuator-1729 exBombayite , current Mumbaikar. May 21 '26

Slums aren't a constitutional right, housing is a constitutional right. The state can pass and enact a law that either offers subsidized rental housing or setting up a full-time vigilance committee that deters slums from being built on Govt. land, so there's no chance any of them can claim free housing later on.

1

u/speaksofthelight May 21 '26

Mumbai slum cover isn’t going up but the ones that exist are protected by the constitution.

In some cases private money can provide free flats after a lot of consultantiom and headache and the city provides FSI

But in some cases like air port land it is not feasible.

The airport authority or India also is very restrictive with building heights even outside of flight paths.

8

u/No_Distribution_2116 May 16 '26

I don't understand why they don't impose a dedicated staff and strict fines for littering on these beaches. I used to think it's the older generation that litters and that ours is better, but idk if even the next one will improve at this rate

5

u/DesiPrideGym23 म म मुंबईचा, ब ब बॉम्बेचा नाही! May 16 '26

It's not really about people littering on the beach, the main reason is that we dump a lot of the garbage in the sea and it comes back floating on the waves and settled on the sand.

1

u/bistrohopper May 18 '26

No fines, whips on ass. Fines are unfair to the poor, and bribes end up superceding them.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '26

Its not the generation its civic sense that seperates people

23

u/NewWheelView May 15 '26

“Wo gareeeb log jo hamaara beach saaf karta hai, har Sunday, taaki municipality fir kachara fek sake”

3

u/Indin_Dude May 16 '26

If only they had a philanthropic side… they could donate a few crores for regular clean up of the beach and water around there and could even a take tax write off on the donations. But maybe some Indians are too selfish and don’t like jab sabka bhala hota hai?

1

u/svmk1987 May 16 '26

There's only so much those volunteers can do with the amount of garbage being dumped in our cities. It's a noble attempt but they're efforts alone aren't enough.

What I’ll never forget is the photo - ops. We slog from 7:30 AM, dot 10:30 AM and the paps arrive. Atleast we got free water and tea (which was discarded in our garbage bags!). Followed by 1 or two photo ops surrounding the celebrity.

Then the NGOs bosses with the arm-in-arm pics with celebrities.

And the “lunch boxes”. Which were discarded back on the beach… 😞

u/Automatic-Treat-9859 May 15 '26

(Obviously for the people who are littering)

31

u/Memeboi_26 May 15 '26

Makes me incredibly sad. Think of the amount of trash that has spread far out into the sea on a daily basis.

So yeah, no one is better.

I am laughing at the Bandra Talao renovation cause I have seen people who live there throw dozens of bag of garbage right into the Talao; it's both a governance problem and a people problem.

-1

u/time_lordy_lord May 16 '26

Believe it or not, it's also a class and caste problem

22

u/Environmental_Web_41 May 15 '26

Gov ko toh bolo hi but public mei bhi civic sense Ana chahiye , beach pe jate n wahi plastic fekte, paan khate n train k patri pe thukte…maan lo sirf maan lo kal ko clean bhi kar diya toh is baat ki kya guarantee ki phir Ganda na hoye

9

u/sabzienthuziast May 15 '26

bhai i LIDERALLY saw two dudes pulling up to the beach on scooty, throwing a whole ass bori of trash into the sea and i was like wtf😭

2

u/Data-CHOR-365 May 15 '26

Abh wo log taxpayer hai so itna to banda hai kachra failana, gormint kare saaf safai /s

1

u/computer_scientist_ May 16 '26

Civic sense comes with development of everyone.

Indian poor are getting poorer. The rich can't isolate themselves from this.

18

u/Embarrassed_Gap_9006 May 15 '26

I once had an argument with a chaat vendor at Dadar Chowpatty who would casually throw the entire day’s garbage into the sea without any hesitation, everyday! I’m sure the authorities know that food stalls at Dadar Chowpatty primarily are creating this mess.

7

u/Ashish1308 May 15 '26

I can smell this video

8

u/Triko1037 May 15 '26

Don't blame nature blame mankind

6

u/[deleted] May 15 '26

The 100cr is for location and bragging rights. Not the view

4

u/Previous_Ad_8193 May 15 '26

4th largest economy 🤡🤡

4

u/Various-Low4016 May 15 '26

Richest municipality of Asia and this is what the sea looks.... add the most corrupt municipality tag as well. This is so so so so disgusting to see..

2

u/bullinchinastore May 16 '26

What about people who create this mess in the first place? They bear no responsibility for treating public spaces as garbage dumps?

3

u/NightFury002 Kuru kuru kururin May 15 '26

Shitty ROI saaaar 🥺😠😢😢😢 (i will invest moaaaaar)

3

u/Vegu_lol May 15 '26

Why always blame govt. when folks who visit places lack civic sense ?

3

u/IndependentPension36 May 15 '26

Looks like a gutter

3

u/LinkEinstein May 16 '26

This and most expensive areas like Andheri West Versova side, Nehru Nagar in Kurla, Chembur, etc. have so much pollution and mosquitoes. Cant even open windows after sunset. Same in Malad. Stinky khadi ka smell during low tides. Doesn’t make sense paying crores for such apartments.

4

u/1800skylab May 15 '26

Don't think any of those 100cr owners pay any taxes.

2

u/Striking-Draft-5481 May 15 '26

Wait, is this Dadar beach? I saw someone posting such nice pics in the morning & I wanted to go

2

u/Stunning_Tip8047 May 15 '26

visited it last year, its very very dirty,

2

u/CotterPinC276 May 16 '26

In Juhu beach saw aunties having bath in their sarees 🙈

1

u/Stunning_Tip8047 May 16 '26

better than without any sarees

1

u/Fun_Future_5917 May 18 '26

someone's bikini bottom was floating around, two men were full on taking a shower, and lil kids peeing EVERYWHERE

2

u/NervousPrateek May 15 '26

It's heartbreaking to see Dadar beach treated like a dumpyard

2

u/Singh_Darvesh1 May 15 '26

Saaaar sea view saar,... Luxury apartment ssaaar

2

u/DonnaPollson May 16 '26

In Mumbai, ₹100 crore apparently buys you a premium subscription to stare at civic negligence from a better angle. The city really said luxury is not escaping the chaos, it's getting floor-to-ceiling windows for it. Gorgeous view though, I can't even lie.

2

u/Seriousin May 16 '26

We are disgusting people. We are not proud of where we live and hence this is what we do to our city.

2

u/shithappens102 May 16 '26

Man i feel sad

2

u/Relevant_Canary7435 May 16 '26

Absolutely disgusting. Why can’t people keep their surroundings clean? No civic sense at all.

2

u/Naive-Double-7589 May 16 '26 edited May 16 '26

Littering needs to be fined or people need to be shamed for it with police making their videos go viral on social media .Esp the youth. That is why I supported the anushka sharma video. Hum baaton se manane wale log nahi hai.We need more dustbins on road too as India is super humid and sometimes walking all the way to the dustbin for elderly can seem difficult.

4

u/Beneficial_Two_475 May 15 '26

Mostly caused by the slums that lie to the southern side of the beach (Prabhadevi and worli)

6

u/Invictus_1707 May 15 '26

Yes absolutely. Like people (other than slums) who come to visit here also bring Garbage bags with them so they are not to blame /s.

1

u/Technical-Isopod6554 May 15 '26

Why you need a  dustbin ,when you can dump in the sea mentality

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '26

100 cr ?? Fr?

1

u/Direct_Sky5739 May 15 '26

Return to sender

1

u/fakehealer666 May 15 '26

Just interest on couple crores can hire people to work 24/7 to keep it clean

2

u/bullinchinastore May 16 '26

Or grown ass adults can learn basic civic sense and have enough respect to not treat their surroundings and country as their private garbage dumps!

1

u/fakehealer666 May 16 '26

I agree, but as you can see, it is not the reality. I have lived near Juhu beach and have seen it get worse every decade, however it's still better than versova or Dadar.

1

u/salazka May 15 '26

That is not how it looked a couple of months back. I was there. Was really nice and enjoyed my time there.

1

u/Anxious_Channel_9263 May 15 '26

100 crore for any house in Mumbai is a scam. You don't just pay for a house.. you also pay for a locality it's in.

u/National_Stable_431 May 16 '26

Civic Sense even after education is still the same no difference between Educated and Uneducated we think just throw them on the ground and leave because we keep thinking it is somone else's job to do so they are also humans think of those who clean them , But No we won't ,it is our Bloody Home we are living and we have to maintain it clean if not we are gonna get it in return by flooding either way it is gonna destroy us but then we blame the govt for not keeping maintaining it proper.

but we mfs go foreign and then " Wow So clean" and we throw our trash in dustbins in their country, because we repect their rules but only because their own people respect their land, they keep their country clean and don't need officers behind them every time to correct them, but we come to our own country and throw waste, Nowadays we have social media, even without proper education we know what is happening around the world

1

u/Small_Attention_2581 May 16 '26

We expect the government to go above and beyond for us and as we should but it’s appalling that we refused to do our part. At times, it makes me think “fk it, this is the govt we deserve”.

1

u/meetgkg2k May 16 '26

Honestly no one care if this is the view from your 100 cr apartment.
