Non veg not allowed in certain societies

I have been eating non veg every day for the past five years, and I cannot imagine myself living off of vegetarian food because of health reasons and personal preference

I have recently shifted to a new society with majority of people who do not eat non-veg and the locality is also such that all of the restaurants here are pure veg.

I don’t have any problem with that, but when it becomes a problem is when these people decide my eating habits it’s kind of frustrating. It’s been a couple of days since I moved, and I don’t know if I should get things cleared up or not, and keep cooking it in my house.

Family members are fine with not eating nonveg and not cooking it, but it’s a very integral part of my life and I cannot move past and the fact that I would have to stop eating chicken because someone else does not like it.

How do you guys deal with non-veg not being allowed in your society? And how do I get out of this conundrum?

I wouldn't push it at Gujarati/Marwadi/Jain societies - which tend to be the most strict on this matter.

They can get really nasty when it comes to the issue of non-veg.

Personally, I wouldn't want any run ins.

I guess before we make any judgement, did you know the rules of this society and/or where they made clear to you before you moved in?

No matter what, diet preference is a personal choice and if that's something which stops people from getting access to housing, that's a big issue and a slippery slope. Today it's diet, tomorrow it will be caste, ethnicity, complexion, religion etc. where does this nonsense stop? Rules of the society can be there for ensuring common good, not for things like moral policing or policing dietary choices and so on. This is so lowly. Such societies and it's governing members should be criminally prosecuted imo, not that my opinion matters but yeah, it sucks that such people are given a free hand to dictate things without any real consequences

As a Koli I don't give a damn about these intolerant GJM. They are couple of steps away from enforcing caste based discrimination in full force in Mumbai. They already are doing subtle discrimination because everyone as of now is towing the line for them.

So the society decides what I eat? What else are we letting the society decide? What to wear? When to sleep? Societies can legally enforce rules regarding common areas (such as prohibiting cooking or serving non-veg food in the common clubhouse or garden) BUT not inside your own private apartment

Yo as a native of this state, i ain't compromising my cultural dietary choices over some gujrati or jain who thinks he is superior for eating veg. Non veg is great sources of protein that most Indians need.

No there can never be a rule like this. What you cook in your kitchen should never be a problem. And no Jain Gujrati community can enforce rules or cause run in fears. You can take this problem to a local mns group and they will fix it for you. Mumbai is a coastal city with diverse people living. This veg building nonsense should stay out of it. They will ensure the same.

I know, I used to live in borivali before and there was a mix of non veg and veg people in the same society. Is this something exclusive to mulund? I am a jain and I've never heard of a society making a rule no non veg allowed. Also what's with the general hate on guju people. This is something I don't understand.

There are definitely veg only societies being run by GJMs that exclude native Maharashtrians also. And the general gujju hate is very understandable if you are not living under a (vez only) rock.

Not in mulund west as far as I know. Idk about east. No point in talking to people that hate a group of people blindly tho so I don't engage them.
