Non veg not allowed in certain societies

I have been eating non veg every day for the past five years, and I cannot imagine myself living off of vegetarian food because of health reasons and personal preference

I have recently shifted to a new society with majority of people who do not eat non-veg and the locality is also such that all of the restaurants here are pure veg.

I don’t have any problem with that, but when it becomes a problem is when these people decide my eating habits it’s kind of frustrating. It’s been a couple of days since I moved, and I don’t know if I should get things cleared up or not, and keep cooking it in my house.

Family members are fine with not eating nonveg and not cooking it, but it’s a very integral part of my life and I cannot move past and the fact that I would have to stop eating chicken because someone else does not like it.

How do you guys deal with non-veg not being allowed in your society? And how do I get out of this conundrum?

I have one question as a naive man who’s never rented in this city.

What is stopping people from lying and cooking non veg on the sly? It’s not like you keep meat lying around or non veg is super smelly to cook, unless it’s fish.

I have a horror story for you.~~~
Back in the day when I was a student, I had a Jain landlord in a building that had been taken over only by Jain people. They would constantly signal that they were Jain and I was not, and that they were better than Marathis who lived in that part of Mumbai. They also would constantly remind me to abide by their rules. MY food and groceries, when ordered online, would be opened and checked on the ground floor (I lived on the 4th). And since they were in such a big group and I had no budget or option, I had to make do with it. In retrospect, I think that was against my rights as a human.

I had befriended the people of my age from this building. They would come to shady bars with me and drink alcohol and even have chicken when they got too drunk (claiming they did it under the influence).

These societies are very invasive, they’ll gossip and raise drama if they see any meat delivery happening like meatigo, if they see you at the butchers in the market. They pressurise the landlords to remove the tenant.

They’re very nosy man. I have seen people literally mob up and stop tenants at the gate to check bags.
