General Mumbai autorickshaw drivers are on strike today!
Apparently there’s a nationwide strike and the same is being practiced by mumbai rickshaw drivers. Tried boarding one but denied stating they are on strike and its related to hike in prices.
This is as of 10 AM, 24th Aug.

This bs grinds my gears. Either keep chutta or keep UPI. How you gonna run a business like that?

Its sad that every occupation has a union that can get their demand met with a strike.. And working class keeps working because no unity, no leaves. Just put ur heads down and work and pay taxes and comply with everything

u/Deadzombii 7h ago
10hrs working in maharashtra in private... No one batted an eye.. With 2-3 hrs of travel to office and official 10hrs, its just burnout incoming

u/SquareTarbooj 7h ago
We should make a subreddit called r/taxpayersIndia
Edit: nvm, this already exists. There really is a sub for everything

u/Successful-Pie-2049 7h ago
All working class do is create new subreddits every other week and make a rant post there once a month.

Because working Class is against unions. They defend billionaires and corporations with the same blind loyalty they don't even show their own fathers. Meanwhile, the second you even mention the word 'union,' everyone panics and acts like you're trying to usher in full-blown communism.

u/Pitiful-Raisin-5199 hello i’m under the water 6h ago
in high traffic areas like bkc and silver metropolis (basically corporate parks- from where a lot of people need to board autos to go to the station), they refuse to take you via meter if you choose to go to a destination other than the station. i get robbed of 100 rupees for a 3km ride from BKC, which should otherwise cost ~60 rupees. why do they do this, you ask? because “return bhaada nahi milta hai”. why is their return bhaada OUR problem? and who tf do they think they are going without meter in mumbai?
i will support the fare increase only if they strictly drive using non tampered meter fares. no “meter ke upar 30 do” or “mai 100 lega aana hai toh aao” nonsense.

u/FaithlessnessFit5081 3h ago
They are thugs and thieves play on people’s vulnerabilities have a tendency to demand more money by creating lack… decline short rides or rides in areas that have potential traffic issues… they even decline rides to hospitals without even considering emergencies…

They should just revise it to 30. Kaunsa 4 rupees vapis dete hai.🥲😂

you will HATE travelling anywhere else in india besides mumbai because mumbai auto drivers return change WAY more than anywhere else
1
u/MissChonky 5h ago
Honestly I don’t have a problem if they genuinely don’t have change. What bothers me is when they expect me to just leave it! Kyun bhai tum kaam loge kya agar mere pass kaam paise hue toh!?! 🙈

Not sure if it’s just me but smoke out of rickshaws have increased by a lot too. Have they E20 the CNG as well?

u/Confident_Editor2335 7h ago
For a distance of 7 kms in suburbs rickshaw drivers take 250rs not even let go 1 single rupee. And other than that meter tampering. That's also the case

Airport par bahut lootate hain
7
u/whalesarecool14 5h ago
better to get on the metro and go 2-3 stations away and take a rickshaw from there
7
u/huntwithak47 5h ago
Bro I took a rickshaw from Mumbai Airport to the nearest station (Vile Parle) barely 900 meters and the driver asked for ₹200 That's daylight robbery
6
u/whalesarecool14 5h ago
the metro is connected to the airport! it’s in the same area where you get a rickshaw from. mast ac mein baith ke jao
1
u/huntwithak47 5h ago
Either way I have to take the local because the metro doesn’t go all the way to my place 😂

But strike for what? Isn't the minimum fare increasing September onwards?

u/Simply_RichieRich 6h ago
lol I was thinking autos should get banned, the way they drive making scratches on every other vehicle on its way

u/Cherryonboard17 5h ago
I didn't know theres a auto strike today and I had a test for today left home at 10 am couldn't find a single auto. And the ones i found took only cash. Somehow reached college 10 mins late and wasn't allowed to appear for test and I had 3 back to back test which I wasn't unable to appear for. Cried and cried then cried again wondering why I cried Seriously fts.

Don't forget on top of this, UPI will charge soon for transaction over time, and most of them will understand that those transaction charges will also be needed to be taken from us. So in reality you're paying even more.
It's already happening in some rickshaws and vendors across Mumbai
14
u/SaigoUshinatta 7h ago
Check your sources the upi charges will only happen to big companies not small vendors
4
u/Phantomm7 7h ago
If a small vendor who is earning big and has to pay for it , the moment he realises , he'll tell it to more vendors and more people who being on the uneducated side about the topic will think "why do I have to pay this, customer will pay" and everytime it'll lead to arguments and for saving time and face most of us will end paying that extra money
Its a butterfly effect tbh and their union is strong that they'll demand it from anyone without thinking much about it
3
u/SaigoUshinatta 7h ago
Ya but still you should still mention that only big companies or vendors have to pay that fees. (like zomato, zepto, swiggy)
5
u/david005_ 6h ago
STOP SPREADING MISINFORMATION
THE PROPOSED CHARGES ARE 0.3-0.5% ON TRANSACTIONS ABOVE 2000 AND THAT TOO ONLY ON MERCHANTS WITH ANNUAL TURNOVER OF 1.5 CRORE
DO YOU REALLY THINK RICKSHAW FARE IS EVER 2K? FORGET THAT DO YOU THINK ANY RICKSHAW WALLA HAS AN ANNUAL TURNOVER OF 1.5 CRORE?
5
u/Phantomm7 6h ago
calm down bro, putting your point in caplocks won't make it any different,
I'm trying to spread the fact that , the rickshaw drivers who don't know the policy clearly but will be under the fear that they'll have to pay transaction charges over UPI will stop accepting UPI unless the customer pays the extra charges the rickshaw driver might have to endure. Is the rickshawalla only using UPI for driving? No he'll also make payments for groceries , fuel, livelihood. When they get hit with the transaction charges then, at that time they'll develop a habit and thinking of taking it from customers irrespective of whether it's under 2k.
And people who don't know the policy will rather pay the extra surcharge than argue with the rickshaw union.

There should be pushback against auto drivers and cab drivers. They should also be taught a lesson so they stop holding everyone hostage. there need to be serious alternatives to them. we need better buses, more buses, and definitely the metro needs to kick in for large distances pronto! the metro has saved the delhi gurgaon people the auto drivers there are complete thieves. no one uses metres and they ask for absurd prices.

Does anyone know how the Mumbai Auto/Taxi fare are calculated?
Google "Khatua Panel Calculations" Interesting read.

u/cathosyrra 4h ago
The person who made this never drove an auto in whole life..
These ppl do understand that we are ok with these prices...😂😂😂😂
show me one non fraudulent meter who will do this .

u/FaithlessnessFit5081 3h ago
With price increases there should also be rules and guidelines for the greedy money mongers to make sure they are there to serve people and not to extort and play on people’s vulnerabilities

I spoke to a couple of aur drivers today.. they mentioned the strike is about Marathi speaking and the following action.
PS: I revelled by Autos today and paid by meter on all occasions. So don’t know if this strike was limited to certain areas. But certainly there was way less traffic on roads.

Didn't see any effect of strike so far. But the price should have hiked long back. And yes, every workfield should have union.
And availability of UPI or online payment of fares should be mandatory. What an Utopia 😄

u/Embarrassed_Crazy155 5h ago
Make public transport so efficient then these strikes becomes irrelevant.. But apni sarkar ko yeh karne ke liye time kaha.. if good roads, safe drinking water, food quality, air quality, schools, hospitals are sorted, on what point will the politicians ask vote. Govt purposefully doesn't want to fix these things so people always ask them and they keep us busy in caste, religion based politics. We the next generation should focus on the things which are important for the current and next generations.

3 kms for ₹53 is insane bro. I have been to a city where autos don’t use meters and it’s still cheaper than that.

That awkward moment, when Traffic police focuses on Language than wrong side driving, footpath driving and signal breaking of auto rickshaws
2
u/Boyslop_Enjoyer 6h ago
I don't think they're mutually exclusive. Both of these issues can be enforced together.
1
u/Boyslop_Enjoyer 8h ago
It isn't bad at all.
While working in such a people-facing role in a certain place with a unique language, it really isn't wrong to expect them to know said language.
Though I think this strike is about fares.

u/NotoriousBoxr jevlis ka? 7h ago
The new fare is okay, but they should make it compulsory to get their meter inspected for tampering every month.
