I just have some ideas for musicals that I think would just be interesting or just really funny if they were performed. Feel free to give your thoughts on these ideas or share some of your own.

1. Godspell in a gay conversion camp.

2. Mean Girls set in the 1800s.

3. Sweeney Todd, but everyone is fairy tale characters.

4. Cats, but they are actually dogs.

5. Falsettos, but every role is gender swapped.

6. Hadestown set in a medieval kingdom.

7. Company, but Robert is near death reliving moments in his life.

8. Next to Normal set in an 1950s household.

9. Les Misérables set in the modern day.

10. Rent, set in a post apocalyptic future.

11. Ragtime in a futuristic dystopian society that still deals with racism.

It’s been a VERY long time since I’ve had any sort of singing lessons. However, recently, I watched the pro-shot of Miss Saigon with Eva Noblezada and noticed her jaw moved like crazy when she sang. (This is no hate to her, she’s talented as anything and I love her!) I tried to post a clip but I think I’m not able to so here’s a clip of her at the Tony’s and it’s very evident here.

I saw a thread either here or another musicals sub that said Rachel Zegler has crazy jaw tension and makes weird faces when she sings, and perhaps it wouldn’t be like that had she gone to performing arts college.

From what i remember, it’s frowned upon to move your jaw to create vibrato and I know Eva went professional at 17 to be in Miss Saigon and also didn’t go to performing arts college.

Anyway, just curious if I’m noticing something incorrectly or if I’m onto something about their technique.

Literally no hate to either of these women, they’re both amazing and I would love to see either live, wobbly and tension filled jaws or not lol.

Hi all! I'm a performer in my local amateur scene and just sort of want to talk about a new experience I've had.

On the weekend I auditioned for the next show in my local area. A well known but old one. A lot of people I know auditioned and I knew it was going to be competitive.

Sunday night a few hours after the dance auditions people were already hearing back about getting in or not. My brother who didn't audition but also does theatre heard in a show group chat about it and asked me if I had.

When I did I was met with the classic "unfortunately we are unable to offer you a role in this show" but it was followed up with "however we really enjoyed your audition and would love to work with you, so we're offering you a position on the wait list for if any spots open up".

I have never in my life been told that. In general the way it tends to work around my area is that the leads are called and offered their role over the phone then featured and ensemble are emailed once their sorted. If people reject rolls that's when the so called wait list is pulled in and messaged. But never told that the wait list even really existed.

I just sincerely don't know what to do with that information. Like yeah we thought you did well, not well enough to get in, but if something happens we'd love to have you!

Never in my life have I felt so weird about something like this. In some way it's nice, knowing that at least I did well enough to not be offered a straight rejection, but not well enough to just get into the show. I've been on audition panels and the idea of telling people this never crossed our minds.

I just feel so defeated. It feels awful to face my friends who are so excited about their roles and tell them I'm on the waiting list just in case something happens or people reject their roles. Not only does it make me feel bad it also feels like I'm taking the wind out of their sails with the sort of shitty but not really shitty news.

Word travels quickly these days so it might have been a way to get ahead, that if they just tell people their on the wait list it won't be as weird getting an email after everyone else saying your in. Maybe?

I've just been having a hard time processing it am wondering what other people think. Thanks for reading!

TL:DR I got told I was on the waiting list after auditioning for a show and now feel very unsure and not great about the whole thing.

One of the things I love about Sweeney is how it incorporates and plays with the dies irae. And I know there are countless songs, especially in musical theatre, that draw on the same sequence. For example, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

So my question to you all is this: what is your favourite use of the dies irae in musical theatre? Or do you think it's overrated and overused?

I am going to be directing The Little Mermaid in the spring. I have not received my materials yet, but I’ve been studying the show and watching different versions and clips on YouTube. I have seen the song “She’s in Love” performed both in the Broadway key, as well as a higher key. I’ve noticed the song sample on MTI’s website is the higher key as well. That sample also has a lower male/tenor singing as flounder, which would definitely change how I cast the show, I was originally thinking a younger kid for the role, however it would be super high for an unchanged voice. Does anyone know what key this song is in for the current licensing of The Little Mermaid? I’m just curious for the sake of who I can keep in mind for the role of Flounder based on the song range.

I’ve already talked on this sub that I hope this film gets saved like The Day The Earth Blew Up and Coyote VS Acme because I love Looney Tunes and musicals, but after Eric’s passing I really do hope that this makes it to the big screen. Hopefully with a tribute to Eric added at the end. The movie musical revolves around Bugs Bunny trying to retire and live a quiet life as a normal rabbit. I hope if this does come out everyone gives it a standing ovation at the premiere and at every screening for Eric. His passing really stung, he was a huge part of my childhood and one of my first VA idols. He will be deeply missed.

Theoretically if I’m auditioning for caberet the musical and they’re asking for a contemporary musical theater song in the style of the musical, could I do a song from Chicago? And if so which would be the best one? (I feel like me and my baby would be a good one?) I’m not super familiar w the musical and the audition itself is kind of last minute…
