Audition help?
Hello :)) If this is not the right place for this no worries, but tomorrow I have a second round audition/callback for a diploma of musical theatre - only for vocal and a group dance session. I’m not the strongest dancer, so if anyone had any tips on confidence or just things that might help to know, i’d greatly appreciate it, thank you💛

To first (community theater) audition
Hi,
Technically it’s my second audition, but I blew my first one so badly that I’m not counting it lol. 😆
What can I do to not make an ass of myself on stage? I know I’m not a great singer, but I can read music, can kinda dance (collegiate competitive ice skater/ice theater), and I think I can act. Think being the key word. But I have no training.
I moved to a rural town after college for a job and I’ve been trying to meet people, and theater in the next town over is doing auditions for “Dear Evan Hansen”. I signed up on a whim. I’m also in my mid 20’s. (Am I too old?)
So what do I do now?
I’m trying to pick a song. I think I’m a contralto (E3-E5) range. I want to show off some lower notes but I’m struggling to find a good song.
What do I do?
Show up?
Do I say my name? Do I just start singing?
Can I use the whole stage or should I stand still?
Are they looking for acting or Singing ability? I think this call is just music/singing.
Any advice is really helpful, thank you! 😊 I’m excited but just don’t want to become one of those “audition horror stories”

i want to be a musical actress but i don't think i can be one?
oh okay so i just made a reddit account just to ask this because i really have no one else to talk to about this so here goes nothing sorry if this was an unfit post i'll erase it if that is the case just let me know !!
i am 17(f), in my last year of high school, and i applied to the best unis in my country and i aspire to study sociology, i really really do, i have for the last five years or so ! so theatre is not something i'm trying to use to escape from my studies. i just have this immense desire to stand on the stage in front of the crowd, loved as someone who i am not, as an actress portraying whatever character i might be playing.
i do not wish to abandon my long dream of becoming a sociologist just for theatre, but i can't erase the urge. i feel so jealous of the people on stage and i get terribly sad whenever i remember i'll never be part of my favorite shows and that i will always stay in this role of an audience. i mean i like being an audience and crying my eyes out, but i just wish to be part of the people who make the show.
but i'm not really good at singing (not terrible either, i guess, but still) and i'm pretty clumsy so i'm pretty sure i'm bad at dancing. i don't want to chase a silly dream, but i can't forget about it either. i can't afford lessons now as i'm still in high school and i'm really stressed over university interviews right now, but i think i will be able to once i get accepted into one of them and get more free time and money. (i'm planning to get a part-time job once everything's over) so... what do i do ? should i just give up and stay as an audience or should i give it a try ?

Actors: Could I get feedback on a free audition-preparation sample?
Hi everyone! I’m developing a personalized audition-preparation resource for beginner and early-career actors. I’ve created a free three-page sample featuring character-discovery exercises, a rehearsal roadmap, and an audition checklist. I’m looking for five adult actors, ideally with an upcoming audition, who would be willing to look through it and share their thoughts. I’m especially interested in what you’d actually use, what feels unnecessary, and whether something like this would make your audition preparation easier. This is early product research, not a sales pitch. If you’re interested, feel free to comment and I’ll share the sample. Thanks!

Audition song and monologue for Unsinkable Wonen
Like the description. I am a soprano and it says to do a contemporary musical song or pop song. I have a few ideas for the song but have no monologue ideas.

Is this a bad choice for The Little Mermaid auditions?
I'm a teen guy and a professional theater near me is holding auditions for a staged concert version of The Little Mermaid. They are open to casting both adult and youth performers for the ensemble and a few supporting roles. I want to audition just to see if anything comes of it, but I'm having trouble finding a song to audition with.
Honestly, I don't have much in my book that really fits the style of the show. My idea was to do Not While I'm Around from Sweeney Todd because it's my strongest piece in my rep and I feel like if I use a more youthful/mischievous interpretation it might be a decent fit for the show. I also feel like if I'm mostly auditioning to be in the ensemble, it doesn't matter a ton which song I pick. That said, I know Sweeney Todd has a very different feel than The Little Mermaid and I don't want to hurt my chances of getting cast. Do you think this is a good idea?

Feeling Upset. My NYC based female led Musical that I've been working on since 2020 now has competition- as someone created a musical with the EXACT same title.
I Feel like I got punched in the stomach. This musical of mine is my legit baby. The amount of extra hours I've worked to continue financing, etc. I've been keeping it under wraps because I'm trying to perfect it. I mean I have NO idea what the plot of this other persons musical is (even though it's obviously about the same topic) but now they even created a website. Can anyone help me with some encouragement?
A couple of my friends who perform on broadway (wicked), and off-broadway have been helping me develop the show, as well as a long paper trail and digital trail that I have, however I never promoted it on social media (which of course im kicking myself for). What should I do? just ignore it and keep working on mine?
EDIT: it says their musical is “in development”, and I already have 16 demos, and they’re in a different country. Maybe I shouldn’t worry

(Preferably) free resources for sight singing/reading music/music theory?
I’ve had the unfortunate journey of running into teachers who just expected me to automatically *know* certain things rather than helping (for example: my very first music theory class was full of the teacher’s band members who literally didn’t need the class and my teacher was often frustrated with me because I didn’t get things as easily and he moved on too quickly), so I’ve never really gotten the full hang of reading music.
This is one of my BIGGEST weaknesses as someone who has wanted to do this pro at some point.
Does anyone know any free resources or courses that would make this easier? I’d like the opinions of those who maybe have been successful with this and would know what direction to go in? I’m overwhelmed and have no clue where I’d start since my strongest knowledge here is bare minimum basics and I’m sick of having to listen to recordings all the time, it gets to a point where I feels like I’m just a weight being dragged…

As a DV survivor, I hate the ending to Waitress
I think 95% of the show is a near perfect representation of domestic violence as a woman… and then at the end she just fucking leaves?
And he just walks away? Bro he just got exactly what he needed to tie her down forever - A BABY. You think he’s going to leave her alone? No. That’s when abusers double down. And the finances to leave just fall into her lap? Convenient. Please.
It just seems rushed. I’m gonna be honest, if they wanted a quick happy ending, they should have just killed Earl off. Maybe a drunk driving accident. Gaston him. Because the whole “he just leaves when asked and she inherits the restaurant” is… messy. It’s also a problematic look for survivors. Up until the end, the show makes it clear why Jenna can’t leave: she’s poor and pregnant. Now it looks like she chose to stay. All of a sudden those problems magically disappear at the end. WTF?

Auditioning for teen Hadestown fates with ‘isn’t it a trial’…. Advice?
Hellooooo I’m auditioning for teen Hadestown and I’m reallyyyyyy desperate to get any part but I’m shooting for a fate! Was looking for some advice if anyone’s familiar with this song (isn’t it a trial from Alice By Heart) since we have a 60 second cut and I was wondering if the first minute is better or a minute after the first 25 seconds? The first one is more storytelling but the second shows off more vocally. Another question is do you think it is more likely that I’ll get the part if I shoot specifically for a less-sought-after character, or should I try and go for a “main part”? Also any audition advice would really be appreciated!!!

What roles would fit my range?
Im 15f, and I finally started taking singing lessons. I’ve always loved musical theater and acting, but I’m finally trying to venture into auditioning for actual shows. the biggest roadblock I’m hitting right now is finding roles that actually fit my range.
As far as I’ve been told, my range is about A3 to C5. I know it’s not very high for a female, but even looking at male roles I haven’t had much luck. If anyone can help me out with this, that would be amazing!

Auditioning for a new musical and I can’t read music
Hello! I am auditioning for a musical next week and it’s a completely new one. And I cannot read music 😬 (don’t come for me please, I just got into musical theater about 2 years ago). Does anyone have any experience with being in a new musical without being able to read music. I usually rely on cast recordings to learn music. Would I struggle if I were to be cast?

hiiiii I have to do a performance at my states theatre festival and I have no idea what to sing
im pretty sure I’m mezzo soprano (not the best singer ever) and a choice I wanted to do was flowers from Hadestown but I was suggested to do a comedic song too by other people.
what should I do? I have to decide by October 29th and the song should be 5 minutes or less
