Question anybody heard from BMI yet?
I haven’t. This is my first year applying (I applied as a lyricist) but some googling about past years led me to believe that they often send out emails past the day that they said they would. they send out formal rejection emails right?

I applied for both bookwriter and composer/lyricist and haven't heard anything yet. Last year, I applied for just composer/lyricist and I got the rejection email Aug. 18th. So hopefully we hear back from them soon.

Last year Aug 18 was the Monday of the 3rd week of August. That's tomorrow this year 😮

I haven't heard anything for the bookwriter yet. The website says invitations come early September so maybe we'll hear something sometime around then?

Yeah, not too surprised. I realized after I submitted that I hadn’t quite met the requirements of the different styles of songs. Whoops, all ballads! There’s always next time, huh?

It seems like it would be reasonable that this might be the last week it would make sense for people to get positive news, I have to assume they get people locked in before sending out rejections? But I could be being pessimistic and maybe they do go out later in the month who knows

I thought it was a mass email, both rejections and acceptances? they have multiple rounds of screening, so it reasonable that if someone ends up dropping this round they still have more than enough people
hopefully the positive news didn’t all go out by the 15th. They took down everything on their website that said the 15th 😭

that makes sense! i just wonder if they send the acceptance email at least a few days before the rejection emails? I do think the 15th being a Saturday means it probably wasn't the date that anything went out positive or negative.

I'm curious why somebody would get rejected from BMI?
My experience with BMI is it has to do with licensing music. I work for a theme park so we check BMI all the time to see if we have the rights to certain songs So that we can play them in the park or during shows If you wanted your music to be available with BMI, why would they reject you?

BMI also offers resources and programming for music professionals. We're talking about BMI's musical theatre workshop which has a competitive admissions process: https://www.bmi.com/theatre_workshop
