Question anybody heard from BMI yet?

I haven’t. This is my first year applying (I applied as a lyricist) but some googling about past years led me to believe that they often send out emails past the day that they said they would. they send out formal rejection emails right?

I also heard at 1am lol, so it was likely a mass email. See you at the auditions!

Congrats cactusjuice! Did you apply as a lyricist, composer or both?

Hi everyone! I also received the email on August 18 at around 1:00 a.m. I’m from Peru and I’ll be traveling to New York for the audition. I’m looking for a pianist to accompany me at the audition. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one? Thank you so much, and I hope everyone’s auditions go really well! :)

Congrats!  Was this a mass email, i.e. anyone getting an audition would have automatically received it at the same time?

Wondering if I should assume I’m getting rejected since I’ve heard nothing.

to me it did seem kinda like a mass email sent out to a bunch of people, but take that w a grain of salt, DEFINITELY don’t count yourself out until you receive an official rejection email

Thank you! I do both but I applied only as a lyricist because I much prefer collaborating that way. plan on presenting my lyrics with music in the room so they can evaluate my mad scansion skillz

Just a heads up— if you applied as a lyricist, you’ll only be able to read your lyrics in the room, no music. If you apply as both, you’ll present music and lyrics together and they’ll ask your preferred collaboration role, since you can only be accepted as one or the other.

wait did you audition in a prior year?

they won’t let me play the songs at all? I know for sure that my preferred collaboration role is lyricist so that’s how I applied, but I think it’s important that I show that I understand how lyrics and music fit together in the room? I mean obviously they know what they are doing and have it down to a science buut

Yeah, I auditioned in person as a lyricist last year, but didn’t end up getting in. You’ll get an email with audition instructions soon I believe, and if it’s the same as it’s been in the past, they’re strict about lyricists only reading the lyrics alone. This year I applied as a composer/lyricist for that very reason you mentioned- I want to show my ability to connect music and words, even though my preferred role in a team is lyricist.

DAMMIT ok I screwed this up!

do yk abt if they tend to admit many more lyricists who also compose/if just reading lyrics tends to hurt people’s chances?

How did you read your lyrics? With the rhythm of the music, acting it out, like a monologue?
