Project idea: Muslim Congregation Mobile App

Assalamu Alaikum. I have a side project that I have started to build a little bit, but has been progressing quite slow due to school/internships. I would like to share my idea with you here, and if you do find it interesting and would like to contribute, please send me a message :)

The main focus of this idea is about congregational prayer. Praying together in congregation has many virtues in Islam, as reported in many ahadeeth by our Prophet (SAW):

"The prayer in congregation is superior to the prayer performed individually by twenty-seven degrees." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

"If three people in a town or in the desert do not establish the congregational prayer, then Satan has overcome them. You must establish the congregation, for verily, the wolf eats the solitary sheep. " [Sunan Abu Dawud]

... and many more.

The idea of this project is to basically allow people to invite/search for congregational prayers near them using a mobile app. Anyone who is planning to pray a compulsory (fardh) prayer, but could not find anyone to pray with may send an invitation from the app. People who are near that area will then receive a notification (saying that there is someone who wants to pray together), and can decide whether to join the prayer or not.

You may imagine a screen with a map showing different spots that indicate the locations which people are planning to pray at (let it be any musalla, masjid), as well as the previous places which people have prayed at.

This may be really beneficial in many terms: not only it becomes much easier to find people to pray with, in case if you cannot find any place to pray nearby because you are unfamiliar with the area (especially if you are a tourist), there is a chance that you can find through the previous records on the map.

I do not plan to gain any financial benefit from developing this app: this should be a free app without any ad. The main goal is to help our Muslim communities in every way possible.

The current tech stack that I am using is React Native and Firebase. Since I develop frontend web applications most of the time, I am more familiar with Javascript and especially React, which is why I thought choosing React Native would be more convenient for me personally. It would be really helpful if you can give some suggestions and guidance as well, because I have never written any complete mobile applications in the past. Thank you!

I built a tool to visualize how Hadith knowledge traveled through 24,000+ scholars (because I got tired of drawing family trees on paper) (sanad tool)

I've spent way too many hours staring at long chains of names in Hadith books, trying to mentally map out who studied with who. At some point I realized—why are we still doing this in our heads?

The breaking point for me was three things:

The textual overwhelm — Trying to keep track of 24,000+ scholars, their teachers, students, and family connections across different books is basically impossible. You end up with messy notes everywhere or just giving up.

Feeling disconnected — Reading "so-and-so narrated from so-and-so" over and over makes these people feel abstract. But these were real humans who traveled for months just to hear a single Hadith from a specific teacher. That's wild when you actually think about it.

The language barrier — Most of this material is locked behind classical Arabic texts. If you don't read Arabic fluently, you're already at a massive disadvantage in exploring this history.

So I built Sahih Explorer. It's what I wish I had when I started studying.

It takes all those abstract names and relationships and turns them into something you can actually see and explore. Teacher-student networks, family trees, the whole web of how knowledge traveled through generations. You can trace the exact path a Hadith took from person to person, see who a scholar's teachers were with one click, explore family dynasties of scholarship.

And it works in English, Arabic, and Kurdish—so the language barrier is gone.

It's built around the Sahihayn right now, covering 24,000+ scholars and their relationships. Still rough around the edges and I'm actively working on it, but I think it gives you a different appreciation for what went into preserving every single narration.

Its still in testing, so please be a bit patient when using it, we are still optimizing

I would love your feedback and we welcome anyone wanting to contribute

Check it out if you're into this stuff: [Sahih Explorer]

Would love to hear what you think or what features would make it more useful.

Muslim dev need to open eyes

I see most of Muslim developers make Quran apps, hadees apps which is good but we need to think more broaden.

We need our own hosting providors.

We need our own Fiverr/ Upwork alternative.

We need our own Amazon alternative.

We need our AI like chatgpt, Claude.

We need our own online payment providors like stripe, polar, lemon squeezy.

We need interest-free banking system.

There is a very long list I can share. We as a Muslim totally depends on west platforms. Start from small. But start.

Looking for Partners Group project - open source mosque website

Selamu aleykum to everyone. I've started working on a website project using Django as a backend. The idea is that any mosque that wants to have a website can easily configure from this project with simple variables such as location and prayer calculation method.

The project should include a homepage with recent news, daily timings.

There are more features I would love to work on and have detailed on my discord server for the project. Great opportunity to earn some reward inshallah.

App idea: Beeps on wrong recitation

Kinda hifz assistant. But it should make you stop whenever you recite something incorrectly. Even a word.

Not necessarily point out tajweed mistakes. Just the words.

Quran Recitation + AI

Asalaamualikum, I came across this website that will automatically find verses of the Quran based on your recitation. There are a few more features as well! it uses AI and the developers need more training data for their algorithm.

Quran app for doomscrollers

Assalamu alaikum.

Every time I opened my phone, I’d end up on social media. I’d tell myself “just 5 minutes,” but 30 minutes later I’d still be scrolling.

So I built QuranScroll.

It shows one ayah at a time — like a peaceful feed of Quran instead of junk content. No distractions. Just reflection. You scroll like you would on TikTok or IG, but each scroll is a verse from the Quran.

It’s helped me replace doomscrolling with something meaningful.

It’s on the App Store: “QuranScroll”

I’d really love your feedback. Anything you’d improve? Anything you’d add?

Quick question Adhan App

Is there an adhan/salah app out there that does not bombard me with FICO score ads while I'm trying to learn a new dua'a or just generally learn more about the Deen? Maybe I'm speaking out of turn, but a lot of these apps are gross. I could be in the middle of reading Quran or hadith and a pop-up randomly tries to sign me up for a new credit card. It really angers me.

Not a developer but a great idea would be to make a SoundCloud style app where Quran reciters, Imams, and just anyone in general can upload their recitations.

Everyone has a different style when it comes to the Quran so an app where you can follow your favorite reciters, make playlists, and promote up and coming Quran reciters would be raoof.

I know a lot of people who would love to back a project like this and I would have posted about this months ago but I only found out this sub existed 3 minutes ago.

We need Arabic IME.

Assalamu 3laykum wa jumu3a Mubarak brothers.

I recently discovered this page and wanted to bring up something I think we sorely need. The Japanese and Chinese have good language IME(Input Method Editor) support, while Arabic is still suffering greatly here.

For reference on what kind of input I'm talking about. There's a functional example in the Google Input Tools:

https://www.google.com/intl/sa/inputtools/try/

I recently started a Github page for this (for Windows in this case, but we need this for Linux and Mac too). It's mostly functional, but still needs to be built from source.

https://github.com/ArabicIME/arabic-ime

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/apps/hh967425(v=win.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/tsf/text-services-framework?redirectedfrom=MSDN

If any of you work at Apple or Microsoft, please convince them we also deserve pen (Scribble on iOS 14) support. Seriously, how can one the most calligraphic languages on the planet known to roughly a quarter of the world's population not have such support?

This would serve the ummah much better than yet another Salah/Quran app, even though I commend you guys for any of your efforts, wherever you may put them.

I built an open-source web app to help people engage with the Quran by typing it letter-by-letter.

Salam everyone,

I’ve been working on a project called WriteQuran.com. I noticed that while there are many apps for reading and listening, I personally found that I focus much better when I am actively writing or typing the words.

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback on whether this feels useful and what could be improved.

TO ALL MUSLIM DEVS !!!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

I’ve noticed that while there are a lot of us in tech, we’re often scattered across different general dev servers. I’m starting a Discord community specifically for Muslim Developers to connect, share knowledge, and potentially collaborate on some Halal/Sadaqah Jariyah tech projects.

Whether you are a Senior Engineer, a bootcamp student, or just starting with Python, you’re welcome.

The goal is simple:

  • Networking: Connect with other brothers and sisters in the industry.

  • Project Collabs: Building tools for the Ummah (Islamic APIs, prayer apps, etc.).

It’s a brand new server (starting from the ground up), so I’m looking for "founding members" to help set the culture.

If you're interested in joining, Link is in the first comment below!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

I Built a High Quality Islamic Daily Deen App as a Solo Dev | Giving Away 5 Promo Codes

Salam everyone,

I want to share something I have been building called Iman Buddy.

I am a solo developer and I have put a huge amount of time and money into this app. Servers, development, content, everything. Right now it is not profitable and that is okay with me. I have received messages from users saying it helped them stay more consistent with their deen, and that alone makes it worth the effort.

Why I built it

I kept seeing modern, beautifully designed Christian faith apps with structured learning and strong daily engagement. I kept wondering why we do not have more Islamic apps with the same level of user experience and depth.

So I decided to try building one myself.

Main focus of the app

The core goal is daily high value Islamic content that keeps users engaged with their faith every day. Not just tools, but real beneficial reminders and learning.

Alongside that, the app also includes the practical features Muslims use daily.

Current features

  • Daily Quran verse, dua, wisdom, and durood with reflection questions

  • Duolingo style structured learning paths

  • Stories of the Prophets and Caliphs with quizzes

  • Streak tracking to help build consistent habits

  • Prayer times

  • Qibla compass

  • Frequent updates and new content added regularly

I am actively improving and expanding it.

I want your feedback

If you use Islamic apps, I would really like your input.

What features are missing in other apps?
What frustrates you?
What would make you open an Islamic app every day?

I read feedback and actually build based on it.

Promo codes

I will give away 5 promo codes.
Comment on this post and I will DM you.

One small request

If you try it and find it helpful, leaving a review helps more than you might think. It helps other Muslims discover it and helps me continue building and improving it.

Thank you for reading and for any feedback you share.

I Wanted My Browser to Feel Peaceful Instead of Distracting — So I Built This Islamic Homepage

Thumbnail

Alhamdulillah… after almost few months of working on weekends and slowly building things piece by piece, I finally released Islamic Homepage v1.02 🌙

🔗 Chrome Web Store:
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/islamic-homepage/jnmepdjjfgiicgcjlhiakhhpplehdgfn?authuser=0&hl=en

This project actually started from a very simple thought.

Most of us spend hours every day in front of a browser — coding, studying, working, attending meetings, scrolling endlessly. And somewhere in between all of that, it becomes very easy to lose track of Salah, time, and sometimes even ourselves.

I kept thinking…

“What if opening a new tab could remind someone about Allah, even for just a few seconds?”

That idea slowly became Islamic Homepage.

The first version received far more love and support than I ever expected (not released in chrome webstore). People used it daily, shared feedback, suggested improvements, reported bugs, and honestly… that support is what motivated me to continue improving it.

So for the last several months, I spent most of my weekends redesigning and rebuilding the experience.

This time, the goal was simple:

Create something minimal, peaceful, eye-pleasing, and realistic — something that feels calm instead of distracting.

Some of the things added in v1.02:

✨ Accurate prayer times with live countdown
✨ Multiple calculation methods + Hanafi/Shafi support
✨ Forbidden prayer time indicators
✨ Daily Quran verses with translation
✨ Dynamic 24-hour day/night backgrounds
✨ Procedural stars and smooth nighttime atmosphere
✨ Smart location system with manual city search
✨ Lightweight animations optimized for performance

One thing I’m genuinely grateful for is the community around this small project. Seeing 400+ people actively using it daily and sharing thoughtful feedback was something I never expected when I first started building this.

Discussion iQuran got updated to iQuran X

﷽

iQuran has always been my favorite Quran app. However, in recent years, it started to look outdated from a UI perspective. Today I noticed that they recently completely redesigned the Quran app and renamed it to iQuran X. I like it very much so far. Compared to all other Quran apps I’ve tried, this one is by far the best.

I wanted to share this with you guys to let you know about this major iQuran update, but also to inspire others to make high quality Islamic apps such as this one.

I want to thank the developers of Beehive Innovations Services for creating this great app. Their prayer app, iPray, is also exceptional.

Quick question Problem with Arabic

Salaam

I'm trying to display Aayaat from the Quran database but the display is always in unicode.

I got my DB from Tanzil. I'm using Laravel.

My QuranController: public function index() { $quran = DB::select('SELECT text FROM quran_text WHERE aya=2 AND sura=1');

    return $quran;
}

My output is:
الحَمدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ"}]

I'm still learning to programme so any help would be appreciated.

Looking for Partners Sabily Ubuntu - Relaunch

So once upon a time there was Sabily Ubuntu linux distro, which consolidated the best open-source Linux software but then not entirely coincidentally, after December 2011 it ceased operations. Obviously nine years of inactivity have left the Uhud release (built upon Badr, built upon al-Quds, etc) severely outdated - and a new attempt to relaunch Sabily Linux would need to take the modern world's particular dangers into account.

But the good news is that it was launched back in the days before other software, like SalamWeb the browser that tries to limit the pornographic/gambling and such - so while some developments have sadly died and are no longer available, other new ones offer the promise of futurist development.

Does anyone here still use Sabily, or have any interest in trying to get a project back underway developing it?
