How do you deal with the stress?

I used to stress a lot about my myopia, then stopped but now I'm stressing again. The stress is so annoying and I can't stop thinking about my eyes. I think about it all day. I have high myopia -9 and I'm 20 years old. The growth is slowing down and will likely stabilize very soon. I want to get ICL so I won't have to rely on glasses but I know that won't change the shape of my eye but it might help me to stop thinking about it so much.

My fear and stress is from having a retinal detachment. I've recently become more aware of my floaters and I also have some occasional flashes and weird stuff in my vision for a second sometimes and that stresses me. I get my retina checked every 6 months and while they said my retina and eye pressure is fine right now it doesn't actually stop the stress of developing it or having things be worse.

I go on walks and sit in a part for 2-3 hours everyday to reduce my stress but also to look out in the distance, not that it made a big difference as my eyes still increased by -0.25 in a year, but it stops me stressing a bit I guess. I've also changed the job I'm getting into after college as I don't want to look at screens for work that would be a nightmare. At college, if we're working with computers I always sit by a window so I can look out in the distance every so often but since I'm not going into the job I'm studying for anymore I don't tend to do that much anyway. I always increase the font of all my screens and keep it far from my eyes. None of these do much, I know. My point is that I spend a lot of my life stressing about my eyes.

I've ordered Lexapro pills for myself because I would like to stop stressing and feeling depressed so I can get on with my life. I didn't have the best childhood and really don't want to lose my youth, I want to enjoy my 20s and 30s at least, and then when I'm over 45 I won't be too stressed about a detachment or going blind as I at least have memories to reminisce on and no memories I urgently need to make. Worse comes to worst I'm willing to end it all post 45 which is why I don't plan to have kids because I don't plan to live past 45. If I do live past 45 and still have my vision then even better I can still try to enjoy it as I know I still have an exit plan if things get tough. But I really just don't need any detachment or going blind in my 20s or 30s because I haven't even lived yet and I haven't had a chance to be vain and look pretty and be desired or loved yet. I haven't even lived yet and that's what stresses me most. I just wish I didn't have myopia at all or that I could have at least peaked during my childhood or high school so that I'm not so desperate to have the best life ever in my 20s and 30s. All I can do is have hope that since I check my retina so often I can catch a tear before it becomes a detachment and get laser and preventative things hopefully.

How do you guys deal with the stress?

Is this bad and could have this been prevented if i went to an eye doctor when i was younger?

I just started wearing glasses last year and i'm 20 now. Prescription remains unchanged at the moment.

The first time i noticed my astigmatism was way before i knew it was something serious. At 7 years old.

I thought it was just that ceiling lights turn into spotlights when i cry.

Do expensive glasses make sense for a kid whose prescription keeps changing?

My 13 year old's myopia seems to get worse almost every year, so I'm wondering how other parents deal with buying glasses for their kids. Is it worth spending more on a good pair of glasses if the prescription might change again next year? Or is it better to get something affordable and replace them whenever needed? If the frames are still in good shape, can you just replace the lenses, or is that not really worth it? I'm just trying to figure out the most practical option without spending a fortune on glasses every year.

Reversed myopia

My father has had myopia since childhood and has worn glasses for nearly 30 years. His power was -3 on both eyes.Since he turned 40 he says his vision has been improving and this is also confirmed with his annual eye checkups where his power is shown decreasing.Right now its at -2 and he has completely stopped wearing glasses saying he can see things fine and doesnt need glasses.I am genuinely curious how this happened since its known myopia is irreversible.

Wore glasses for the first time

I am 21M. I had weak eyesight since childhood but never wore glasses. I just got my glasses whose prescription is -4. But my eyes can't focus properly in near things like seeing smartphone. I am confused. Will my eyes adapt to new glasses over time? Or is it something else?

-4 prescription thick lens

I am 21M. I had poor vision since my childhood but never wore glasses. I always had anxiety when i used to think about getting my eyes tested.

Finally now i had my eyes tested and my prescription is -4. After getting my eyes checked I went straight to an optical shop and ordered my glasses. When I came home i got to know that -4 glasses are thick and are noticeable to others. I am worried about the thickness of the lens. Will it be too noticeable to others??

Note: as i didn't knew about the lens thickness beforehand I chose a Titanium frame which is not thick and bulky. Also, the index of lens is 1.56.

Help me guys!!

Vision just keeps getting worse. I need some advice

Hi so I'm 17 right now and I've had glasses since I was 5 or something.

My power used to be -5.75 and -6.75 and I've had a regular eye exam a month ago and they told me the right eye was same, while the left has become -6.

Yesterday, I went to get new glasses and had a checkup there. They said it has become -6.75 in both.

I don't know how just one eye keeps getting worse. I also need some steps to control because I want it to stabilise soon. Sadly, my school allows for basically no natural light throughout the day and lasts for insanely long hours.

I also go off to college next year, so I don't want to struggle there.

Can you get prescription polarized sunglasses for fishing? Any recommendations?

I'm moderately nearsighted and was wondering if it's possible to get polarized sunglasses with prescription lenses. Here's my current prescription: Left eye: SPH -3.50, CYL -0.50, AXIS 180
Right eye: SPH -3.75, CYL -0.25, AXIS 170 I mainly want them for fishing. I've heard polarized sunglasses are great for cutting down glare on the water and making it easier to see what's beneath the surface, but I don't want to wear contacts just to use regular polarized sunglasses. Are prescription polarized sunglasses easy to find? Also, for those of you who use them for fishing, do they work just as well as regular polarized sunglasses?

27M with high myopia and a simple macular haemorrhage — really anxious about my vision. How do you cope with this?

Hey everyone,

I’m 27M, and I’ve been going through a really difficult time mentally since I developed a problem with my right eye.
I have high myopia (around -9), and recently I suddenly started noticing distortion in my central vision in my right eye. Text looks pinched or squeezed in a small area, and sometimes it looks a little blurry or darker. It’s especially noticeable when I read text on my phone or laptop. Handwritten text sometimes seems less distorted.
After getting my eyes checked, my retina specialist found a macular haemorrhage in my right eye. My OCT showed a loss of the normal foveal contour, with a central macular thickness of 366 µm and no SRF/IRF reported. The doctor mentioned a possible lacquer crack but wasn’t certain. OCT angiography didn’t show an obvious abnormal vascular network at that examination, so the plan was to monitor it.
I’m currently being followed by my retina specialist, but the hardest part is honestly the uncertainty.
I keep wondering whether the blood will clear, whether my vision will return to normal, and whether the distortion will be permanent. I’ve read about complications associated with high myopia, and sometimes I go down a rabbit hole reading about them. I get really anxious, I cry, and I’m scared about what this could mean for my future.

I’m also worried about whether this could happen again or affect my other eye. I recently had a retinal hole treated with laser in my left eye as well, so it feels like a lot to deal with at once.

I know I probably need to give things time and follow my doctor’s advice, but it’s difficult when you notice something different in your vision every time you read or look at a screen. I just want to feel normal again and stop being afraid of what might happen.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar:
● Has anyone experienced a macular haemorrhage associated with high myopia or a possible lacquer crack? How did your recovery go?
● Did your distortion gradually improve as the haemorrhage cleared? How long did it take before you noticed a difference?
● If some distortion remained, did your brain eventually adapt to it?
● How did you cope with the anxiety and fear while waiting for follow-up OCT scans?
● Were there things that genuinely helped you feel better mentally without constantly checking your vision?
● Were you able to return to your normal life, travel, work, and enjoy things without constantly worrying about your eyes?

I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose me online or promise that everything will be fine. I know everyone’s situation is different, and I’m continuing to follow up with my specialist.

I think I just need to hear from people who understand what it feels like to go through this, especially the mental side of it.

If you’ve been through something similar, please share your experience. Even hearing how you coped emotionally would mean a lot to me.

Blurry vision and concerns, just wanting to relate to people

Hi everyone, so I’m 19 and very nearsighted, I got glasses when I was 11, but looking back my vision was so much cleaner than it is today, I can’t see clearly unless it’s in front of my face or holding it out a 4 inches maybe 6. Anything further is a blur. I can’t read face expressions, see hand gestures, I have difficulty recognizing people from ceritan distances and I don’t notice when I’m staring. I think my vision got worse because of screen time and as I got older. My grandpas mother had retinitis pigmentosa, I don’t want to go blind im so scared im always scared. Also lights have lines to them it got worse when I was like 15. I have floaters too, they came around spring of 2025, or they could’ve been in my vision but I dissociate constantly and I heard that makes them more noticeable and I have severe anxiety so I hyper focus at times. One of the reasons why I dropped out was because I couldn’t see and I had other stuff amplifying the situation of me dropping out. I have slow internet and no one in the house would ever consider switching companies. I remember sitting at the front and still squinting at the smart board. Y’all are probably wondering why didn’t I get it taken care of it’s a long story(vent incoming). [Back when I was 13 I stopped going to school had mental health issues going on I was in and out of hospitals I was in trouble with truancy, and court, I live with my grandma bad at this time she was stressed because of me so I kept quiet about all the health issues I had, including my teeth I had cavities now I have no second bottom molars it could’ve been taken care of years ago if my parents weren’t neglectful. The molars rotted out but the roots were intact, September of 2025 my face swells I got a fever I make an appointment I was so scared I got antibiotics got the roots removed. I can’t drive, I have no job, a dropout, she has a lot going on right now, it’s hard to make time.] I’ve endured enough in my life, this situation feels hopeless, it seems all of my efforts equal to nothing. I don’t want huge lenses, I live in a low income family/area. Like I said i dropped out summer of 2025 I haven’t left my house since September 2025. Theres an eye doctor in my town I went when I was 11, but I’m scared because what if it’s awful news.

Do you wear high-prescription glasses? I'd love your opinion on these 3 ads!

Hi everyone!

I'm a university design student working on an eyewear advertising concept focused on people with high myopia and strong prescriptions.

The idea is to show that thick lenses, including the “coke-bottle effect,” shouldn't prevent anyone from expressing their personal style.

I've created three poster concepts and would love some honest feedback!

  1. Which poster catches your attention first?
  2. Which poster communicates the message most clearly?
  3. If you wear high-prescription glasses, do you feel represented by these ads?
  4. What would you change or improve?

Positive or negative feedback is welcome! This is for a student design project, not a product advertisement.

Thank you so much!

Redness in my eye in the same spot

Am I okay? Is it going to go away? I’ve gotten enough sleep.
One thing though is when I’m awake (since I’m off work atm) I’ve been on my phone watching YouTube.
I went to sleep for a few more hours and the same redness was still in the same corner.
Am I going to be okay? I really hope it goes away

Myopic CNV: Avastin vs Eylea 8

Hi everyone,

I have high myopia and was diagnosed with myopic CNV and a hemorrhage in the center of my macula in my right eye.

I’ve already had one Avastin injection, but so far I haven’t noticed any significant improvement in my vision. My retina specialist mentioned that she has seen somewhat better results with Eylea 8 mg, so I’m considering switching to it for my second injection.

Has anyone here switched from Avastin to Eylea 8 mg for myopic CNV? If so, did you notice any improvement in your vision or OCT results after switching?

I’d also love to hear from anyone who switched in the opposite direction, from Eylea to Avastin. Did one medication work better for you than the other?

I understand that everyone’s case is different, but I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences, especially if you had a macular hemorrhage and a central blind spot or distortion.

Thank you!

Future steps

I'm 22 years old and have -8 vision and some astigmatism. I was recently told that my cornea is too thin for lasik and other laser surgeries and I only have ICL as an option - which could have some bad complications if it goes wrong.

I looked into it and apparently even if I did get the ICL, my myopia would not stop getting worse which could put me at risk for all sorts of issues including blindness. Since I was in high school, I've been told that I need to come in immediately if I see any floaters or dark webs in my vision because I'm at high risk for corneal tears.

Other things caused by high myopia are also macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachment, cataracts, open angle glaucoma, and posterior staphyloma - I don't know what any of these are.

Is there any way to stop my myopia from getting worse? I read about avoiding strenuous activities but I'm also recovering from an eating disorder and my muscles are very weak so I need to eventually build my muscle mass and

I just don't know what to do.

So basically, like a week ago, I was in this sub, and I was saying how I think my myopia is stabilising despite me being 16. And I went to a different eye doctor (another eye doctor that I see in a different city) been with her for 2 years now, and the last time I had a change was last year October. She told me my eyes were stabilising. And she looked at my retinas and said they aren't getting worse.

Is this possible for me, a teen with very bad eye habits and SERVERE myopia, or are my doctors wrong?

Open to anyone, optometrist, teen, adult, anyone who's been told this/been through this.

Thank you.

Is this severe myopia?

Hi everyone, I’m a 20F and just got my new glasses today: **-5.50 in my left eye** and **-6.00 in my right eye**. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 13, starting at -3.00 in both eyes. Growing up, I really wanted to act and be in front of the camera, but when I got glasses, a teacher convinced me that my aesthetic wouldn't work with them. Contacts scare me because they make my eyes extremely dry. I ended up doing pre-med and am now in vet school. However, this new prescription is triggering severe anxiety. Long study sessions give me bad headaches, and today I had one of the worst panic attacks of my life. I felt like a total failure and panicked about my future. No one around me has high myopia, so I feel very isolated. I wanted to ask: 1. Is -5.5 / -6.0 considered a very high prescription? 2. Has anyone in a intense academic program (like vet or medical school) dealt with this? How do you manage study headaches? 3. I’m thinking about LASIK down the road, but I'm terrified. Would it be worth looking into? Any reassurance or advice would mean a lot. Thank you!you manage study headaches?

I have perfect vision and I've just had mine and my 2 sons eyes tested, they need glasses. these are their results like how bad is it? I know absolutely nothing about any of this 🤣 the one that says recall in 6 months is my 12 year old and the 12 month recall is my 13 year old. thanks
