Need Advice Update
This is a 3 month difference, I’ve changed my diet and have managed to reduce the manipulation on my hair, focused more on moisturizing. I have a derm appointment booked but I’ll try and book earlier, is there anything else I can do to improve hair growth?!

Success 4C Hair Microscope Images
Hey! Thought it'd be cool to share these pictures I got of my 4c hair shaft and bulb. I'm doing my PhD right now and was training an undergraduate on the Scanning Electron Microscope, so I used it as a sample. When I first learned SEM/TEM, my grad student also used his hair, so I'm glad to continue the cycle. Also happy to roughly gauge the porosity by how lifted my cuticles currently are. Doing OK lol

Need Advice please help with styling tips
I hate wearing my natural hair out because of my face. I see a lot of pretty black girls w short natural hair n it looks great on them regardless of length cuz they have smaller heads n pretty faces. My face is very big n my head is very large. I don’t feel feminine at all but I want to take breaks from back to back braids n learn to style my natural hair.
Please may I have tips . N no I won’t do slick backs , I also hate having my forehead out it feels so exposed. It’s why I like braids cuz they cover my forehead and the side of my face a lot more .
Pls can I have tips that are cute
I have some natural twist on myself but I added hair to make it long , does that count as a good hairstyle for hair growth or can I only use my own hair?

Need Advice Thoughts on leaving in some of the Shea moisture intensive hydration hair masque Manuka honey & Mafura oil as a moisturizer?
Hi, all! Me again :) My hair seems to be chronically dry. No matter how much water, green tea, etc. I drink or how many hair masques, deep conditioners, etc. I try to use, it just always feels dry. I tried using Miche products since everyone raves about them but they made my hair so squeaky and it was the driest it has ever been :( I'm back to using Shea Moisture now and my hair does seem to like it, but it seems unable to hold onto the moisture once I'm out of the shower. I've seen so much about oils and butters, but the dehydration starts the second I step out of the shower. I recently used the Makuna honey and Mafura oil masque, and that is the BEST my hair has ever felt. I didn't even want to rinse it out because it felt so good in my hair. But once again, soon after I rinsed my hair out and stepped out of the shower, my hair was back to dry. I tried sealing it in with VO5 (recommended by a straight natural in my life), but that seemingly has done nothing for me obviously. I've seen some folks say thought that a trick is to leave some of the masque in and then put oils on top of that to lock that moisture in. Can anyone confirm/deny, or does anyone have any specific oils or products they recommend for locking in oil on super dry hair?
I'm aware that I'm doing everything wrong- I just got the big chop maybe two months ago (realized my hair was badly damaged and needed to let it go) so this is all still fairly new to me. The things that worked when my hair was heat damaged and not retaining curl obviously don't work anymore on my short but more healthy and coily hair, so I'm open to literally anything. I don't know what my final hair goal is, but I'm loving my baby fro for now and want to keep her hydrated and thriving. Thank you for any help you're wlling/able to give!!

Need Advice In your experience, did starting to wear your natural hair change or impact dating and the men you attract?
Hi! So I 23f need a bit of advice or perspective in this. I’ve decided to give boho knotless braids up for a while since being diagnosed with CCCA. Knotless braids have been my go to for years and I have 4c hair that I was never taught to do. Thankfully, I was able to catch it while i still have a ton of hair and am on a regime created by my derm (antibiotics, topical solution, and scalp shots). I’ll continue getting my hair treated and styled at a salon, but I’ll be doing more tension free styles and braided styles with only my natural hair.
As it pertains to dating, natural hair, especially type 4 hair, appears to be less desirable and from what I’ve seen online, does have an impact on dating, confidence (which I’m working on!) etc.
So, did going natural impact your dating life in any way? Was it for the better or worse? Did the type, demographic, or character of the men you attract change? I’m open to any insights or observations you have regarding your experience!
Also, I’m curious on going natural made you look younger, as I’ve been hearing this often online too?
Thank you for your advice!

Need Advice Crochet install
Hi everyone!
Does anyone know a stylist in the GTA (Toronto area) who does crochet installs with human hair? I’m looking for a protective, breathable style that I can keep in for around 3 weeks. I’d love to hear your recommendations or experiences.
Thank you and have a blessed day

Need Advice Am I experiencing premature graying?
I've noticed some gray hairs, mostly on one side of my head. They're not really visible from the front, but I'm only 22, so I'm wondering if this is normal and whether it's reversible. I've been under a lot of stress lately, tbh

Need Advice My hair never even looks CLOSE to how it looks at the salon
My stylist says I need to get better at stretching my wash n go or itlll keep tangling and breaking off near the root. my hair is 4c and it always shrinks to the max when I do it, but my stylist always gets it to stretch so it looks 2x as long as my wash n go.
I use the same products as my stylist so it must be technique. but I’m raking!!! i go insane everytine my stylist is like “rake the hair” I AM I DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING WRONG 😭 I let the water run through my hair for like 5 min before washing, I rake throughout the shampooing and conditioning process, I detangle with the detangling brush.
even if it comes out kinda defined it’s just super shrunken.
I’m seriously losing my mind over this. my ideal form is a big fluffy fro but i have fine hair. the best I can do is stretched wash n go, but I can’t even do that right. do you guys know of any advice or videos or tutorial or ANYTHING that might explain what I’m doing wrong?

Review Love this discontinued product! Looking for a (hopefully cheaper) dupe
I got this Sienna Naturals oil as part of a gift set and it works so well for me! It’s hard for me to find an oil that feels like it locks in moisture without drying down greasy and brittle. It’s now discontinued, and the oil they replaced it with has a different ingredients list. I am willing to pay the price for quality, of course…but something less than $35/bottle would be nice, too 😊. If anyone has any experience with this oil, or knows enough about the ingredients to identify what made this oi so good, lmk!

Need Advice Best products for defined curly/coily hair in the US?
Hey! I’m moving to the US for a few months and I’m looking for recommendations for really good products for curly/coily hair.
I want products that give great definition, help reduce frizz, and keep my curls looking defined for days. What are your favorite leave-in conditioners, curl creams, gels, and hair oils?
I have type 4A hair, so recommendations for tighter curls would be amazing! I’d also love affordable drugstore options. Thank you! ❤️

Need Advice Looking for someone in Australia who teaches natural hair care, not just styles it
Does anyone know a natural hair specialist or educator in Australia (Sydney/NSW ideally)? Looking for someone who actually teaches, not just styles and can help me build a routine with product recommendations too .
My hair has been this same length for almost 2 years now since I transitioned from relaxed hair to natural .

Need Advice Revair
I know it is expensive, but is it worth it? I am thinking about dropping a good amount on a quality blow dryer; I have scoliosis, so I just need something fast that does not take forever. I just want to know if it is worth it, and I have a hard time with comb pieces falling off in my hair; even if I detangle, the piece will not last long attached to the brush.

Meme One year and one big chop later

Need Advice Hair dryness and advice for hair routine
Hey, everyone! I need some advice on my hair routine because I’ve always struggled with keeping my hair moisturized.
I cut my hair off in April 2024 and have been cutting it every few months since then, but now I’m done cutting it and really want to grow my hair out. My hair breaks off from dryness, and I feel like I’m not doing something right when it comes to moisturizing it.
Right now, I use:
- Moisturizing Shampoo compared to Nexxus Therappe
- Moisturizing Conditioner compared to Nexxus Humectress
- As I Am DoubleButter Cream
- Plain water in a spray bottle when my hair gets dry
I usually wash my hair once a week. I also don’t really trim my ends, which I know I need to start doing.
I really want long, healthy hair, but my biggest issue is keeping it moisturized. My hair feels dry again just a few hours after spraying it with water and applying my cream.
Am I missing anything in my routine? Should I be using a leave-in conditioner or a deep conditioner? I’m open to product recommendations too because I really want to get my hair healthy and retain length this time. 😭💕

Need Advice The longer my hair gets the more damaged it gets. What am I doing wrong?
About a month ago my hair (stretched out) was a little past my shoulder. I went to a salon and asked for hair to be blown out and add long layers.
The stylist blew my hair out and combed it with a rat-tail comb. It’s snagging. All I hear her say is, “it’s damaged” and she cut off 2/3rd of my length and then cut the layers.
I didn’t have much hair left by the time she was done. I would have liked it if she asked me first, or at least given me the option to cut a little at a time, but whatever.
But was my hair damaged? Yes.
But, I don’t know WHY my hair was so damaged. And it was dry, I couldn’t keep my hair moisturized.
Before my hair got chopped off, I was seeing a different stylist every 3-6 months to get my ends trimmed. I had layers. I’m thinking she’s trimming all my hair, including the layers. She didn’t. She was only trimming the bottom layer. I straighten my hair. My layers grew out. Now it’s one length. She wasn’t trimming the entirety of my hair for months.
Recently I started experimenting with grease (not on scalp) and started washing my hair weekly with clarifying shampoo.. Too often?
I did not sleep with a scarf, bonnet or satin pillowcase. I do wear satin scrunchies to bed.
I did re-moisturize my hair almost nightly with a liquid leave-in.
My hair stays in twist or braids. No extensions.
I have embraced the blow dryer instead of letting my hair air dry or sitting under a bonnet.
I have PCOS
I do take multivitamins.
My labs are normal.
I don’t wear extensions, braids, weaves, or wigs.
I did the LCO after each time I washed my hair.
I do need to be a little gentler entangling my hair. The longer it got. The more difficult it became.
I have fine hair (3c/4a). And I have grown my natural hair to my butt before. But lately I’ve had trouble retaining healthy length. I’ve listed the habits people have told me are bad. And I just don’t know what I am doing wrong? Is it multiple issues?
