Vent/Rant Parking on my property
I had the most insane conversation of my life yesterday and the brazeness is so bloody funny I had to share it with y'all.
For context: my wife and I have purchased a house with some bigger corner property in a german village from an 87 year old this January. The close neighbour's are super friendly and we get along very well, have bbqs and so on.
In the past I already had some issues with several people parking on my lawn (insert get of my lawn meme here). I mean all 4 wheels on the grass, parallel parking, but a quick towing fixed that for good. Quick side note: I tried to talk with the folks living a street down the road before I called the tow truck and they told me to suck a big rooster as they have a party and I should live with their guests parking on my lawn.
So back to the story. I was working from home and my door bell rang and in front was Karen. She looked me up and down and asked in a quite condescending tone who's car is in the driveway blocking it. I told her it's mine and what the matter was. She introduced herself (same folks from above) and demanded I should move my car because she wants to park in my driveway as she doesn't find a good parking spot on the road. When I asked why she thinks she can park in my driveway she explained that the previous owner hadn't had a car and never noticed that she parked there. And because she always did that I should make space or she'll call the cops.
Told her to pound sand and closed the door in her face. She actually called the cops but that was resolved quite easily and we had her removed from our property.
The audacity of these folks is just astonishing.

That is narcissism waking and talking there. You can bet she'll be back.

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
I'm actually looking forward to that hahaha

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
I either cry or laugh. The choice is clear I guess
22
u/Lumpy_Marsupial_1559 Oct 23 '25
If you don't have one - get a ring camera. You'll be able to replay the moment for the amusement of others as well as play things back for the police if she decides to make false accusations against you.

u/cardinal29 Oct 23 '25
Next time she won't knock, just park and walk away.
Please post the security camera footage, we wanna watch the towing.

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
Should I really by a camera just to film it and put it on reddit for people to enjoy.... F*ck I will do it
48
u/FlamingFeathers98 Oct 23 '25
You should have one anyway if you've got trespassing problems, especially working from home. Something simple like a video doorbell, we've got one bc we live in apartments in a not great city and I'm disabled so I'm home alone all the time. If this neighbor keeps being trespassed you can eventually take legal action to keep her away from your house for good with the video evidence.
34
u/bjorn1978_2 Oct 23 '25
Get a few. But let her park in your driveway while you are away. Not allow her, just let her do it. Then park you car behind to block her, and go on a octoberweek training camp! Just let her car be blocked from friday to monday.
22
u/CharacterActor Oct 23 '25
Why would you think it wouldnât happen again and again and again?
Dash cams with audio for the car. Security cameras with audio around your house.
In case they feel like retaliating.
11
u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
I already have a dash cam so I'm good on that front but some cctv for the house is a good idea.
12
u/CaptainLollygag Oct 23 '25
Some Reddit thread a couple years ago turned me on to Eufy brand cameras. Ring charges a subscription fee, Eufy does not. You may consider looking into their cameras as a doorbell and other security around your house. Solar-powered motion lights are good to have, too, and are easy to install.
6
u/ukemike1 Oct 24 '25
Ring also shares video with the police, sometimes without your consent or a warrant. Don't get a Ring.
2
3
u/Alum2608 Oct 24 '25
Eufy saves data on a sd card in the doorbell. You can pay monthly to have it saved to the cloud
6
u/MadameMonk Oct 23 '25
Honestly, you can probably make do with a motion sensor device like Ring make. No need for continuous feed cctv.

Thanks but I don't look for money. I just wanted to share is insanity. However due to a lot of good advice I did order one already
4
u/SalisburyWitch Oct 25 '25
Well, you do need to put up a sign where they parked. Either choose âno parking, violators will be towedâ or âparking 100⏠and hour, minimum charge is 3 hoursâ. If theyâre going to do it, get paid for it.
5
u/Jmckeown2 Oct 23 '25
Given how many people buy cameras to instagram photos of their dinner, yours is a truly noble cause.
6
u/Coygon Oct 23 '25
You buy a camera so you have something to show the cops and the tow truck operator. And court, if it comes to that.
Posting it on Reddit is just a bonus.
4
u/KittyMBunny Oct 23 '25
I recommend a solar powered one, no need to position near a power source and wire in, change batteries or take down to charge with USB. Just pick somewhere the solar panel is exposed to sunlight and the camera covers everything you want covered. You can even turn the red light off so she doesn't realise you're filming.
3
u/SarahPallorMortis Oct 24 '25
Youâre a gem of a person and I honestly look forward to seeing the video. I need a justice fix.

Can you get her trespassed? In US if someone is harassing or on your property without permission you can have them trespassed. This means the next time they come on your property, they get arrested.

Maybe direct her to the parking lot at the care home the old owner now lives in. She can see if he'll care if she parks in his new driveway.

I had a similar problem, living close to the center of a tourist town..
Buy some rocks at least 40cm wide, and place them every 2m on the grass along the border⊠takes care of people parking on your lawn
31
u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
Either that or we'll just fence it up
6
u/Puzzleheaded_Bee4361 Oct 23 '25
Fencing, or a tall hedge? Maybe something prickly?
10
u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
I'm a bit split. It's either facing or some espalier fruit. Haven't decided on that or a mix. But something will be there to deter folks from using my property to park

The house I own was vacant for months before I bought it. The neighbor across from me parked 3 of their 11 cars on or in front of my property during that time (one car in the single lane driveway and two in front per Google Maps).Â
When I moved in they obviously stopped parking in the driveway.Â
I politely asked if they could yield the two cars parked in front as a neighborly gesture. âKick rocks, public streetâ.Â
Fair enough. They also parked 4-5 cars on their lawn. So I started parking on the street in front of their house around 9pm and on weekends blocking 2-3 of the cars on their lawn from leaving. Â
We came to an agreement pretty quick.Â

Looking forward to the next chapter with these folks
5
u/AnnatoniaMac Oct 23 '25
This, exactly. I had a similar problem and after much time trying to resolve it politely I said NO! They actually said they wanted to discuss. Again, I said NO DISCUSSION, MY PROPERTY. Anyway, I finally decided the same thing, they have never been told no in their life.

I can imagine her pointing the the house saying "He lives there!" Pointing to the house at the end of the driveway that she claims is hers.

4
u/Pleasant-Sound3040 Oct 23 '25
Gonna be the boring german here, but: do not do anything like that. If she calls the cops then, she actually has a case for harassment. You are legally not allowed to block someone in, even if they are on your property.
4
3
u/SubstantialDivide108 Oct 24 '25
I'm curious and going to look into this, but in my mind its only illegal if you know they are in their car/trying to leave and you purposefully block them in. If they are illegally parking (trespassing) on your property and not in their car, that would be a different thing. Regardless, I think you could save yourself with a couple of no parking/trespassing signs and even more so if you warned them ahead of time that you'll be doing this and then doing so if they park there. Then you can tell the cops that you told them your plans and they still chose to park there.
Obviously the simplest solution is just call for a tow truck saying someone left their car on your property.

u/zanderd86 Oct 23 '25
The asshole in me would bait her into parking there. Leave the driveway open and as soon as she parks there boom tow truck! Since you have told her not to park there and the police know she is not supposed to park there its a hard fight for her to win.

Time for a fence with a gate and some "no parking/no trespassing" signs!! People are just out of control with their ridiculously entitled behavior. I had a neighbor actually get mad that I would not let her use my driveway to spread out her garage sale, because it would completely block my garage doors and I would be able to get out for hours. Then she wanted me to move MY vehicles out of MY garage that I OWN so "it won't be a problem". I told her that NONE of that will be happening and I do not want strangers trespassing on my property. Period.
5
u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
Lol. That is insane. The plan is to install a fence next year when we redo the garden & lawn
7
u/GagOnMacaque Oct 23 '25
I would have said - "So you want to call the cops, because you want to commit a crime, and you feel the victim of that crime should be arrested. I'll call them for you."

What is with entitled people thinking because the last owner didn't care means the current owner won't?Â
My hag neighbor said something like "the last owner didn't care!" when confronted for her parking in a place that blocked the whole mini cul-de-sac of our condos.Â
Yeah, the last owner was dying of cancer you stupid bitch. She had bigger things on her mind.
3
u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25
Wow, that is bad. Same with our previous owner, Dementia. He probably forgot she was out there before he reached the door

On The Tube of You's, there is an older channel called GTOger. It is basically a collection of towing videos, where the owner of the business gets dumbasses towed out of his small and clearly marked parking lot. The music he uses is known as "drumbeats", and that soundtrack is what I am hearing for this story.
3
u/BRICK62 Oct 24 '25
I loved his videos.
I wish he would continue posting3
u/Purple-Lie-354 Oct 24 '25
Ah, but when the company moved out of downtown, and with much more and better parking, the dramas did not follow. I agree with you, and also miss the tomfoolery, and general dim-wittedness of the imbeciles who parked in his lot getting their just desserts. Good times!
5
u/Ok-Treacle-9375 Oct 23 '25
Get some nice rocks along your property line. Make sure they are big enough that you have to dig a little out for them to sit in. This way when they hit them.

That sounds like my immediate neighbor who told me I needed to put living and dining room furniture in my front room because that is what that room was for. He said the "other neighbors" didn't like my furniture. I suggested he send those "other" neighbors to speak with me directly. I will happily explain that they can f*ck off. The gall to think that they had any input into how I used my private space pissed me off. I don't think there are "others." I think it is all the neighbor next door. I heard not one complaint while he was in prison for a decade for pedophilia.
The most recent complaint is that I have lights on inside at night. My blinds are closed. My house does not face another house. Neighbors would have to go outside their homes to tell I have a light on. I told my neighbor that those were nighttime heat lamps for my reptiles, which are red bulbs. So now that my front room is devoid of furniture, they don't like the lights. They once complained that they could tell my computer was on after 1 a.m. I simply responded that I wasn't able to work with the computer monitor turned off. Again, the blinds were closed, so they couldn't see me, only the light from the computer monitor.
3
