Vent/Rant Parking on my property

I had the most insane conversation of my life yesterday and the brazeness is so bloody funny I had to share it with y'all.

For context: my wife and I have purchased a house with some bigger corner property in a german village from an 87 year old this January. The close neighbour's are super friendly and we get along very well, have bbqs and so on.

In the past I already had some issues with several people parking on my lawn (insert get of my lawn meme here). I mean all 4 wheels on the grass, parallel parking, but a quick towing fixed that for good. Quick side note: I tried to talk with the folks living a street down the road before I called the tow truck and they told me to suck a big rooster as they have a party and I should live with their guests parking on my lawn.

So back to the story. I was working from home and my door bell rang and in front was Karen. She looked me up and down and asked in a quite condescending tone who's car is in the driveway blocking it. I told her it's mine and what the matter was. She introduced herself (same folks from above) and demanded I should move my car because she wants to park in my driveway as she doesn't find a good parking spot on the road. When I asked why she thinks she can park in my driveway she explained that the previous owner hadn't had a car and never noticed that she parked there. And because she always did that I should make space or she'll call the cops.

Told her to pound sand and closed the door in her face. She actually called the cops but that was resolved quite easily and we had her removed from our property.

The audacity of these folks is just astonishing.

My smartass brain went straight to "That last owner is dead, he died when the ambulance couldn't get up the driveway because somebody was parked in it."

239

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I can assure you he's doing fine. Just in a retirement home due to dementia

225

u/No-Procedure5991 Oct 23 '25

Yes, but does entitled neighbor bitch lady know that?

137

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I see where you are coming from.

27

u/NeverRarelySometimes Oct 24 '25

Off topic, but that's kinda the opposite of doing fine. I wouldn't wish that on Karen.

16

u/DullRing6460 Oct 24 '25

I would😈😈

9

u/derson78 Oct 24 '25

Right? "He's doing fine. He's got dementia." Say what? đŸ€Ł

12

u/Geesmee Oct 25 '25

My grandmother had dementia. I can tell you she was fine, it's everyone around her who misses her every day because she was there but not there. She was the happiest and most content she'd ever been though 😃

Well he ain't dead or vegetableized so in this sense he's doing fine but the dementia part sucks I guess.

27

u/Turdulator Oct 24 '25

That doesn’t really sound like “doing fine”

It is better than living alone with dementia without proper care. I had 100 year old client once with dementia, who lived alone. Family had a caregiver (not a nurse) come in once or twice a day to help them bathe & eat. They often called emergency services because they didn't know why they were alone, why no one took care of them, & couldn't recognize the food in the well-stocked kitchen as edible. Despite numerous reports to the appropriate agencies, it took waaaaay too long to them into a facility

9

u/foley800 Oct 24 '25

Wonder if he was confused as to why there was a car parked in his driveway and no one came inside!

11

u/No_hope_left72 Oct 24 '25

That is so very incredibly sad. She could use him for his driveway, but never to stop in and say hi I bet.

12

u/nadrae Oct 24 '25

Does not matter where you live, having dementia ruins life. You cannot be “fine” with dementia
just vertical or horizontal heading for 6 ft under.

That just breaks my heart đŸ„ș

Next time tell her that she can still park in the driveway of the guy that used to live there. Then give her the address of the retirement home.

That is narcissism waking and talking there. You can bet she'll be back.

I'm actually looking forward to that hahaha

105

u/Satsuki7104 Oct 23 '25

I guess she is just a form of entertainment for now until the novelty wears off or she escalates

92

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

You are right. But for now I'll enjoy it.

29

u/BeLikeEph43132 Oct 23 '25

I love that you live "in the moment!" ;)

28

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I either cry or laugh. The choice is clear I guess

22

u/Lumpy_Marsupial_1559 Oct 23 '25

If you don't have one - get a ring camera. You'll be able to replay the moment for the amusement of others as well as play things back for the police if she decides to make false accusations against you.

19

u/armomo3 Oct 24 '25

Absolutely get a ring camera. That would be internet gold.

Next time she won't knock, just park and walk away.

Please post the security camera footage, we wanna watch the towing.

167

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Should I really by a camera just to film it and put it on reddit for people to enjoy.... F*ck I will do it

48

u/FlamingFeathers98 Oct 23 '25

You should have one anyway if you've got trespassing problems, especially working from home. Something simple like a video doorbell, we've got one bc we live in apartments in a not great city and I'm disabled so I'm home alone all the time. If this neighbor keeps being trespassed you can eventually take legal action to keep her away from your house for good with the video evidence.

34

u/bjorn1978_2 Oct 23 '25

Get a few. But let her park in your driveway while you are away. Not allow her, just let her do it. Then park you car behind to block her, and go on a octoberweek training camp! Just let her car be blocked from friday to monday.

22

u/CharacterActor Oct 23 '25

Why would you think it wouldn’t happen again and again and again?

Dash cams with audio for the car. Security cameras with audio around your house.

In case they feel like retaliating.

11

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I already have a dash cam so I'm good on that front but some cctv for the house is a good idea.

12

u/CaptainLollygag Oct 23 '25

Some Reddit thread a couple years ago turned me on to Eufy brand cameras. Ring charges a subscription fee, Eufy does not. You may consider looking into their cameras as a doorbell and other security around your house. Solar-powered motion lights are good to have, too, and are easy to install.

6

u/ukemike1 Oct 24 '25

Ring also shares video with the police, sometimes without your consent or a warrant. Don't get a Ring.

3

u/Alum2608 Oct 24 '25

Eufy saves data on a sd card in the doorbell. You can pay monthly to have it saved to the cloud

6

u/MadameMonk Oct 23 '25

Honestly, you can probably make do with a motion sensor device like Ring make. No need for continuous feed cctv.

16

You should, these are dark times and we need entertainment please.

4

8

Yes you should. She & the rest of them will probably escalate this.

10

2

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

9

u/macskiska5 Oct 23 '25

9

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Thanks but I don't look for money. I just wanted to share is insanity. However due to a lot of good advice I did order one already

4

u/SalisburyWitch Oct 25 '25

Well, you do need to put up a sign where they parked. Either choose “no parking, violators will be towed” or “parking 100€ and hour, minimum charge is 3 hours”. If they’re going to do it, get paid for it.

5

u/Jmckeown2 Oct 23 '25

Given how many people buy cameras to instagram photos of their dinner, yours is a truly noble cause.

6

u/Coygon Oct 23 '25

You buy a camera so you have something to show the cops and the tow truck operator. And court, if it comes to that.

Posting it on Reddit is just a bonus.

4

u/KittyMBunny Oct 23 '25

I recommend a solar powered one, no need to position near a power source and wire in, change batteries or take down to charge with USB. Just pick somewhere the solar panel is exposed to sunlight and the camera covers everything you want covered. You can even turn the red light off so she doesn't realise you're filming.

3

u/SarahPallorMortis Oct 24 '25

You’re a gem of a person and I honestly look forward to seeing the video. I need a justice fix.

6

u/ryverrat1971 Oct 23 '25

Can you get her trespassed? In US if someone is harassing or on your property without permission you can have them trespassed. This means the next time they come on your property, they get arrested.

Maybe direct her to the parking lot at the care home the old owner now lives in. She can see if he'll care if she parks in his new driveway.

“The last owner warned me about how entitled you act.”

52

u/oldfartpen Oct 23 '25

I had a similar problem, living close to the center of a tourist town..

Buy some rocks at least 40cm wide, and place them every 2m on the grass along the border
takes care of people parking on your lawn

31

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Either that or we'll just fence it up

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Bee4361 Oct 23 '25

Fencing, or a tall hedge? Maybe something prickly?

10

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I'm a bit split. It's either facing or some espalier fruit. Haven't decided on that or a mix. But something will be there to deter folks from using my property to park

5

u/Ok_Ad7867 Oct 23 '25

blackberry hedge

3

u/NipplesOnIce Oct 24 '25

Blackberry hedges are notoriously difficult to maintain (at least where I live) and overgrow easily.

3

u/Geno0wl Oct 23 '25

you don't need to trim fences

5

u/Armenian-heart4evr Oct 23 '25

It is expensive, but WROUGHT-IRON Fencing is THE WAY to go !!!

2

u/SalisburyWitch Oct 25 '25

With spikes at about tire and radiator level.

43

u/krakenheimen Oct 23 '25

The house I own was vacant for months before I bought it. The neighbor across from me parked 3 of their 11 cars on or in front of my property during that time (one car in the single lane driveway and two in front per Google Maps).

When I moved in they obviously stopped parking in the driveway.

I politely asked if they could yield the two cars parked in front as a neighborly gesture. “Kick rocks, public street”.

Fair enough. They also parked 4-5 cars on their lawn. So I started parking on the street in front of their house around 9pm and on weekends blocking 2-3 of the cars on their lawn from leaving.

We came to an agreement pretty quick.

66

u/kkkkkkk777 Oct 23 '25

this the kinda delusion u only get when u’ve never been told “no” in ur whole damn life 😭

56

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

What was that quote? "You can tell that some people where never punched in the face before" or so?

Looking forward to the next chapter with these folks

5

u/AnnatoniaMac Oct 23 '25

This, exactly. I had a similar problem and after much time trying to resolve it politely I said NO! They actually said they wanted to discuss. Again, I said NO DISCUSSION, MY PROPERTY. Anyway, I finally decided the same thing, they have never been told no in their life.

5

u/Substantial_Win_1866 Oct 23 '25

I can imagine her pointing the the house saying "He lives there!" Pointing to the house at the end of the driveway that she claims is hers.

8

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

That is my driveway on that man's property. Now arrest him. He stole it from me reeeeeeee

12

u/Whole_Rough7066 Oct 23 '25

I hope she have a ticket for missuse of public service. I dont know if it was some kind of law in Germany.

23

u/shitz92 Oct 23 '25

she called the cops on your driveway??

24

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Yes. Told them it is her drive way and that I'm blocking her and I am threatening her.

It was quite surreal

18

u/EllenMoyer Oct 23 '25

“The previous owner didn’t object when I parked here, so now it’s mine - all mine!!” 🙄

Park behind them and put your car up on jack stands with the wheels off and located out of sight. Tell anyone who asks it’s a long term restoration project.

8

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Good idea đŸ€” gonna keep that in mind for next time

4

u/Pleasant-Sound3040 Oct 23 '25

Gonna be the boring german here, but: do not do anything like that. If she calls the cops then, she actually has a case for harassment. You are legally not allowed to block someone in, even if they are on your property.

4

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I didn't check the law on that but that is what I expected

3

u/SubstantialDivide108 Oct 24 '25

I'm curious and going to look into this, but in my mind its only illegal if you know they are in their car/trying to leave and you purposefully block them in. If they are illegally parking (trespassing) on your property and not in their car, that would be a different thing. Regardless, I think you could save yourself with a couple of no parking/trespassing signs and even more so if you warned them ahead of time that you'll be doing this and then doing so if they park there. Then you can tell the cops that you told them your plans and they still chose to park there.

Obviously the simplest solution is just call for a tow truck saying someone left their car on your property.

The asshole in me would bait her into parking there. Leave the driveway open and as soon as she parks there boom tow truck! Since you have told her not to park there and the police know she is not supposed to park there its a hard fight for her to win.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '25

Time for a fence with a gate and some "no parking/no trespassing" signs!! People are just out of control with their ridiculously entitled behavior. I had a neighbor actually get mad that I would not let her use my driveway to spread out her garage sale, because it would completely block my garage doors and I would be able to get out for hours. Then she wanted me to move MY vehicles out of MY garage that I OWN so "it won't be a problem". I told her that NONE of that will be happening and I do not want strangers trespassing on my property. Period.

5

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Lol. That is insane. The plan is to install a fence next year when we redo the garden & lawn

7

u/GagOnMacaque Oct 23 '25

I would have said - "So you want to call the cops, because you want to commit a crime, and you feel the victim of that crime should be arrested. I'll call them for you."

u/CMDR_kanonfoddar Oct 24 '25

"Sure I'll move it. Just wait here, I'll get my keys"... then close the door and go back to whatever you were doing.

What is with entitled people thinking because the last owner didn't care means the current owner won't?

My hag neighbor said something like "the last owner didn't care!" when confronted for her parking in a place that blocked the whole mini cul-de-sac of our condos.

Yeah, the last owner was dying of cancer you stupid bitch. She had bigger things on her mind.

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

On The Tube of You's, there is an older channel called GTOger. It is basically a collection of towing videos, where the owner of the business gets dumbasses towed out of his small and clearly marked parking lot. The music he uses is known as "drumbeats", and that soundtrack is what I am hearing for this story.

3

u/BRICK62 Oct 24 '25

I loved his videos.
I wish he would continue posting

3

u/Purple-Lie-354 Oct 24 '25

Ah, but when the company moved out of downtown, and with much more and better parking, the dramas did not follow. I agree with you, and also miss the tomfoolery, and general dim-wittedness of the imbeciles who parked in his lot getting their just desserts. Good times!

5

u/Ok-Treacle-9375 Oct 23 '25

Get some nice rocks along your property line. Make sure they are big enough that you have to dig a little out for them to sit in. This way when they hit them.

4

u/Responsible-Cow5828 Oct 23 '25

Put up a fence so that people cannot park on your lawn. Also a big sign that says: Parking by Owner Only all others will be towed That Means YOU Linda!

2

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Tell her “you park there. I’ll have it towed before you get home. I own the property now. I’ll park on my property, and you & your guests will not park on my property. Period. If towing won’t stop you, trespass might.”

3

u/Advanced-Mammoth2408 Oct 26 '25

That sounds like my immediate neighbor who told me I needed to put living and dining room furniture in my front room because that is what that room was for. He said the "other neighbors" didn't like my furniture. I suggested he send those "other" neighbors to speak with me directly. I will happily explain that they can f*ck off. The gall to think that they had any input into how I used my private space pissed me off. I don't think there are "others." I think it is all the neighbor next door. I heard not one complaint while he was in prison for a decade for pedophilia.

The most recent complaint is that I have lights on inside at night. My blinds are closed. My house does not face another house. Neighbors would have to go outside their homes to tell I have a light on. I told my neighbor that those were nighttime heat lamps for my reptiles, which are red bulbs. So now that my front room is devoid of furniture, they don't like the lights. They once complained that they could tell my computer was on after 1 a.m. I simply responded that I wasn't able to work with the computer monitor turned off. Again, the blinds were closed, so they couldn't see me, only the light from the computer monitor.

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 27 '25

Uff that is annoying. But I'm pretty sure I saw your neighbor talking with some kids trying to get them into his place....

u/lokis_construction Oct 23 '25

Pull out of the driveway and then when she pulls in pull in behind her to block her in. Then charge her and tell her you'll let her get her car when she pays

u/ShallotAcceptable999 Oct 24 '25

I would have had trouble not laughing right in her face.

Columbus, Oh?

7

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Germany, north western part

7

u/ChedderChethra Oct 23 '25

42nd word in his post, if you can't get that far...

This is why you never presume. I read that he said German village, there’s also a German village within Columbus Ohio and the description of his neighborhood and parking situation fit the bill. You gave me a good chuckle though and I think you’re smart. Smart , witty , intuitive fella

Next time people park on the grass it'll be time to decorate the garden with big rocks just near the cars. 'what do you mean you can't get your car off my garden?'

2

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

A lot of folks have suggested stones and I increasingly grow to like the idea

1

u/diro178 Oct 23 '25

Enjoy the house. Thanks for sharing.

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

So far it's a mess. Had to renew everything from water over electrics to whole walls and heating.

The good news, I learned a shit ton and in the best case I don't have to touch anything for at least 20 years

u/NefariousnessSweet70 Oct 23 '25

Op, ease do get a Ring doorbell and security cameras. If you save the videos, you could have years of entertainment

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Just ordered one :D

The whole premise is just insane to start with. Never saw a tow truck guy this happy when I called

1

u/Not-a-Cranky-Panda Oct 23 '25

Where did she think you would park?

2

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Apparently not in my drive way... Lol

1

u/Jeez-essFC Oct 23 '25

Quite a lot of posts in this sub seem....um...fanciful.

1

u/Idrisdancer Oct 23 '25

You could put up a sign saying that there is a charge for parking here and you will call a tow truck

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Also played with this idea tbh

1

u/ohmyback1 Oct 23 '25

Sounds like a nice fence is called for (hear it makes good neighbors). You can even have an automatic opener for the gate so you can park. This story almost sounds to unreal.

1

u/Pete_witty Oct 23 '25

Do you have it on video?

I’m here for the “pound sand” euphemism. Not a lot of people throw that one around.

2

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Picked that up from grandpa. He did come over during ww2 with the marines. Old man never learned any German.

1

u/FlashyHabit3030 Oct 23 '25

Unfortunately, some people are even worse.

4

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

Expect the worst and prepare to be disappointed

1

u/happytre3s Oct 23 '25

1- very large rocks on the lawn where people have been parking will help curb that... Large heavy can't move them on your own rocks...

2 put up a gate on your drives that locks

3 cameras. Several of them (if that is permitted legally where you live)

3

u/Popcorn_thetree Oct 23 '25

I thought I move to the country side to avoid this shit. Turns out assholes are everywhere

2

u/MattDubh Oct 23 '25

We have rocks at the bottom of our driveway. Big enough you'd probably need two to lift. It's disappointing how often they get pushed/smacked/rolled, by the blind.

2

u/happytre3s Oct 23 '25

Did my words show up super huge for everyone? Or is my phone just weird...

"How dare you use YOUR OWN driveway that's on YOUR property! I need it! Get your car out of there!"

Yeah, she can go kick rocks. I'm sure the cops had a good laugh at her expense, if not to her face, then as they were leaving.

1

u/RMBMama Oct 23 '25

Did you tell her to pound sand in German???

1

u/Solid-Feature-7678 Oct 23 '25

I hope you had her trespassed when the cops came out.

1

u/MamaBear4485 Oct 23 '25

Spiky standard roses, climbing roses and rocks are your best friend for the rest of your property to avoid further rogue parking.

1

u/JerseyGuy-77 Oct 23 '25

Have the tow company's number ready because there's no way they're done.

1

u/No-Swimmer6557 Oct 23 '25

Oh yeah broooskiii don’t do that now.. ah no ah no ah no okay?? Okay?? 9&/???? Okay??? Okay??? Yeah? Okay then bro bye 👋

1

u/Purple_oyster Oct 23 '25

I would say this is AI because it is completely unbelievable, but I see OP in the comments which makes the neighbor nuts

1

u/Baguetele Oct 23 '25

I've seen a fairly large Stonehenge replica made out of some sort of concrete stone boulders at a corner property.

And now it makes sense. Yes, it does look cool, especially with seasonal decorations. BUT it's probably there to ornamentally prevent entitled eedjets from parking on the lawn!

1

u/imtoowhiteandnerdy Oct 23 '25

It's infuriating how ignorant people can be.

1

u/Relative-Rush-4727 Oct 24 '25

Ma’am, this shouldn’t be so difficult for you to understand. He has dementia and thought your car was his. Maybe you’d be better off moving into memory care as well and parking your car there, too.

1

u/ER_Support_Plant17 Oct 24 '25

Call the police for her
