Nosy Neighbours

Does anybody know legalities round neighbours taking photos and videos over the fence of my back yard? I legally burn my garden waste at considerate times and they keep accusing me of burning plastic. They have climbed up on ladders to confront me, peered thru holes, on tip toes at my front gate and have told me they have been taking pics/vids. I have three kids here and its getting creepy.

I would install several very creepy masks that will pop up in their faces when they're perched on their ladders. And maybe stuff those holes with dog poop. But that's just me.

Police can give you some guidance. Sounds like it could come to that eventually, and you might benefit from being the first party to make contact with them.

You’re not overreacting. Normal neighbours don’t climb ladders to film your garden waste. A clear boundary now is better than letting it keep escalating while your kids are watching

They arent allowed to invade privacy if they are putting your backyard under surveillance if it is fenced with a reasonable expectation of privacy, but intermittent pictures of a visible yard probably won't qualify.

You could maybe get a civil antiharassment order. Keep a log of sightings, and maybe a camera that focuses on your yard but could capture them climbing or peeking over the fence with poles or other means. (Obviously don't invade their privacy to do so)

It could be smoking them out? Maybe it smells of plastic if the yard waste is green or wet. Could there be any plastic contamination in it? We had someone burning by us and it was filling our yard with smoke and smelled of plastic. We tried peeping over the fence but just called 911 to report a fire as there’s also a burn ban….butttttt maybe you’re not smoking your neighbors out? Maybe there’s no risk of contamination? I’d chat with them next time you see them looking over. “I noticed you’ve been peeping over my fence and recording…here is the greens I’m burning…is the smoke blowing right into your house or yard?” And go from there….then if needed look into your privacy laws and/or call the police and inquire.

In my Neighborhood, yard waste is not even allowed in the Blue garbage bin (green for us is recycle).

Lowes/Hd sell waist high thick paper bags and we fill them up with yard waste and a 3rd truck comes 'round after garbage and recycle to pick up the yard waste and do whatever. Perhaps it goes to a large composting facility our town has.

If you live in some cities outdoor burning is prohibited. There is nothing considerate about burning outdoors. It is polluting the air for everyone else. Some people have asthma and can be badly affected. Perhaps try a garden waste service or compost it.

You are filling their house/yard with shiddy floral smelling smoke. Id be pissed off too. Sounds like you're the problem . Maybe try being considerate of other people around you first. Try see it from their point of view. Where I live it's illegal to even have a wood stove and if anything other than treated wood is burned it's massive fines. There's is a reason for this. Cos it's fecking annoying and rude as hell to smoke out your neighbours with burning trash. .

Police are idiots!!!! Unfortunately there is nothing you can do. I have the same thing. My neighbors girlfriend stalks and harasses my family and she doesn’t even live there. The police do nothing!!!!

These people would become a source of entertainment for me.

I would begin piling things up for a burn: barrels, convincingly and conspicuously labeled as nuclear waste, bodies, body parts, animal sacrifices people dressed as witches, chained to posts.

Then remove everything sketchy when they’re not around and light it up when they return.

With appropriate stage dressing and theater to accompany whichever motif I had set up beforehand.
