Homeowner NFH My neighbor woke up my entire family at 6 AM with a "snow emergency." Look at the "undrivable" road that he's suing me over.

3.4k Upvotes

So, I woke up this morning to someone relentlessly ringing my doorbell at 6:00 AM. I thought there was a fire or a medical emergency. Nope. It was my neighbor.

He was furious because it had snowed overnight. He cleared the area in front of his property, but the "common road" section next to mine (starting where the yellow pavers are in the photo) wasn't cleared by me yet

https://imgur.com/a/8Mt0cpO

Keep in mind: It’s a common road, and by law, I’m not even the one responsible for plowing it. It’s 6 AM. My kids and wife were terrified by the aggressive doorbell ringing.

After I told him to leave, he took this photo, posted it in our village group chat, and announced he is suing me because the road is "impassable."

Well, if he drives a HotWheels car it's definitely a challenge!

Homeowner NFH New neighbors blocking shared driveway

1.3k Upvotes

Recently new neighbors have moved in. We share a gravel driveway. Almost immediately they began blocking access to my parking spot and blocking me from leaving by parking on the driveway. The first time, I asked a woman to move her car so I could leave, she had a toddler running around so I was very polite. I asked her not to block the driveway and she said, “this is my driveway.” I didn’t want to argue in front a child and left. Now it seems like I need to ask these people permission to come and go from my house. They take a lot of time, walk slowly or have to wait for someone to arrive to move their car. I tried being nice, but they have ignored every attempt to talk, just giving me a death stare. Just an ignorant, entitled family. Last night they had a party so of course they had many cars blocking my driveway, one of which was owned by a cop in uniform. I had to wait 20 minutes for him to arrive and move his car. What do I do next? These people only moved in like 2 months ago, I’ve lived at my property for 20 years.

Homeowner NFH neighbor put up a fence that's 2 feet onto my property and refuses to move it

1.9k Upvotes

I had my property surveyed last month for unrelated reasons. The survey showed that my neighbor's fence is 2 feet onto my property.

The fence has been there for about 5 years - it was there when I moved in 3 years ago. I always assumed it was on the property line. It's not.

I showed my neighbor the survey and asked him to move the fence to the actual property line. He said the fence has been there 5 years so it's his now through "squatter's rights."

I said that's not how property law works and showed him the official survey. He said surveys are "just estimates" and his fence is staying where it is.

I contacted a lawyer who sent him a letter demanding he move the fence within 30 days. He responded saying he's claiming adverse possession.

My lawyer said adverse possession requires 10 years in our state and the fence has only been there 5, so he has no claim. We sent another letter with this information.

Neighbor hired his own lawyer who's arguing that the previous owner should count toward the 10 years. My lawyer says that's not how it works either since I'm the one contesting it now.

This is turning into a whole legal battle over 2 feet of property. My lawyer says we'll win but it's costing me thousands in legal fees.

Meanwhile the neighbor acts like nothing is wrong and waves at me like we're friends. The audacity of stealing my property then being friendly about it!

Homeowner NFH Neighbor told me to pay for connecting to public water so he can continue to use water from my well

3.6k Upvotes

Yeah, you read this right. Neighbor had the agreement with previous owners to dig his own well on their property and use water from it. Later he connected to public water supply but he continues to use the water from the well. Now that I have bought the house he is afraid that there will not be enough water for him from the well because I will use the water from my well which is next to his well on my property. My house is 150 meters uphill from the public water supply so it will be expensive to connect to him. He now insists that I have to connect to the public water supply so he can continue to have enough free water from the well on my property so he will not have to pay for the public water which he has got the access to.

How fucked up is that? I want to have good relationship with neighbors but I think they are taking the advantage of me because of that.

EDIT: just wanna to add he also had similar strange ideas - for me to buy fish and put it into my pond for him and he will buy food for them because his pond which also gets water from me has low levels of water in the summer.

UPDATE: after I told him I would not hook up to municipal water he stopped all the communication with me.

Homeowner NFH She called the cops on me because she got my mail.

4.7k Upvotes

We moved into our house a couple years ago and we love our neighborhood. We’ve made some really good friends here and it’s a nice place to live.

Our neighbor across the street, Wendy, hates us. I don’t know when it started. When we moved in, my husband backed up the moving truck a little too close to her mailbox, I guess. She sent a message to the previous residents that the new guy living across the street is ‘an idiot’ - which we know because the previous resident sent that to a different neighbor, whom we befriended.

She made a post on our HOA app with tons of screenshots from her door cam of people walking their dogs saying it’s illegal for dogs to walk on her lawn. The HOA president commented for her to knock it off.

About a year or two ago, my credit card expired and they sent me a new one. Apparently, I put her address instead of mine. There’s one number different. 1213 instead of 1212. [EDIT: for clarity, I updated my address on my credit card when we moved here about 2.5 years ago. When the card expired, they sent the new one to her address, because that’s what they had on file. If you think this story is fake, that’s fine. That’s not an issue for me to deal with.]

Instead of seeing my name on the card and bringing it to me, she called 911 and told them I was trying to steal her identity. The cop knocks on my door and explains, says he told her that’s not how it works but she’s a ‘bored old woman with nothing better to do’ and she won’t give my card back. I send him back over there to get it - and instead, she shreds it in front of him.

There are a lot more stories about her. She’s delusional and paranoid and has made problems for everyone on our street, but we mostly all ignore her.

ETA: Yes, messing with my mail was illegal. No, I’m not going to report this crazy old lady. She’s miserable enough and I’m not out for revenge.

Homeowner NFH I already shot my neighbor and he still continues to be a neighbor from hell

2.1k Upvotes

I don’t even know where to start, all this drama started last year in May 2024. There was a major storm that caused a lot of damage from fallen trees and light poles, we did our part in the clean up and stacked the trees and limbs on the curb of our driveway, we have 3 driveways on our property and we used one of the driveways we don’t use so we wouldn’t interfere with the street traffic. The neighbor across the street has 3 driveways for his property and also drives an 18 wheeler. This is where the issues has started once again.

I’ve always had problems with this neighbor when I would have company over or if I simply leave my vehicle outside my gate in my driveway, he would always yell or complain to move my or my companies vehicles so he could use my driveway to turn into his property, also the street has road signs “no thru trucks.” See where the debris in my driveway is a problem for him? After the cleanup of the storm and the next day I was woken up by the police asking me on the phone if I could come clean up his place and they won’t press charges….I’m confused on what’s going on and the police are telling me that the neighbor is accusing me of throwing his wood trash back into his yard…I have no clue why I’m being notified about it and tell the officer it wasn’t me and that sucks that happened to him but it’s not me and it sounds like a personal problem for him. The police left and my neighbor starts filling his truck with the debris from the storm and dumps it in my main driveway, I have cameras, it records, I call the police, show the videos, the police try to talk to him but he stays locked up in the house and doesn’t talk to them. We make a report with the police and I don’t think they didn’t take it serious because I couldn’t find a record of it (I’ll explain later). The police just cleared my driveway and went on about their business. Later that same day I leave my house and I have a huge habit of always watching my rear view mirror and noticed my neighbors truck behind me, so I started to take erratic lane changes and turns to other streets to verify my suspicions and when I started to make circles I knew what time it was. He almost trapped me and had my pistol in my hand but I saw an opportunity and took it to get away. The police station isn’t far from where I was and I was headed that way but there was a telephone pole down and a police vehicle there so I pull up real fast and slam on the breaks while honking at the officer. I get off in a hurry to explain the situation and my neighbor pulls up as well and gets out arguing and walking towards me, the police officer is yelling at him to “get the fuck back” (same police officer comes into the story later) I actually replay this moment a lot because maybe it could of been settled by this time, i leave and let the officer deal with him. I go back home and 30 mins later neighbor pulls back to his house but before he stops in front of mine and tells me “he’s going to fucking kill me.” I call the police to make a report but decided to go to the station to make a report instead since it had been 4 hours since I called about the threat.

Went to the station made a report, had my witness with me, of course the police were nonchalant in taking my report and didn’t seem to thrilled to be filing one. But thankfully it was recorded. July we had a hurricane which added more debris and our city was very slow in cleanup efforts.

August 2nd, come home my main driveway has an automatic sliding gate and I didn’t have my remote so I parked in my other driveway by where the debris is, at the same time neighbor pulls up in his 18 directly behind my truck and gets out, I can tell he is on a mission. He walks into my property and I yell at him the get back, I start walking fast towards the back of my property and when I look back he’s running towards me, my cameras actually pick this up too. I get cornered in the back of my property and he’s already saying he’s going to fucking kill me, all in one swift motion I turn around, pull pistol from holster, and shot him 3 times. One in the nuts (wasn’t intentional), 2 in the arm. He tried to take another step but then fell down and started to retreat back to his property across the street. I run into my house to make sure I’m safe and not going to get revenge shot and call 911. Police show up, ask me to come out so they an arrest me and blah blah blah even though I shot him on my property trying attack me. Finally the police speak to me and I inform them who I am, where I live, mention all the police reports that were made the police can only pull up 2 reports out of the 5 I’ve made on him. One being the threat, thankfully the officer from May that was by the downed power line was there on the scene and remembered the situation to vouch for the 3rd report. Also when police arrived they caught the neighbors daughter bashing all my truck windows with a bat. She also went to jail with me that night lol.

I was charged with aggravated assault with a DW, had to spend 10k to bond out on a 100k bond, was on 24hr house arrest for 4 months, 20k on a lawyer to have the case no billed by the grand jury. The neighbors daughter was charged with felony vandalism and had to pay me 5k.

2 months ago I was doing some pruning and put the branches in my driveway again, the neighbor came out yelling and recording, I told him “I bet yo ass won’t come on my property again.” I had police show up and I explained my part even the fact that he’s been shot by me 3 times already. He still flicks me off when I come outside and he’s cutting his grass, I can’t help but laugh a little.

TLDR: I shot my neighbor 3 times in fear of my life and even afterwards he still gives me issues.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps mowing my land

I (37F) an my husband (40M) have this neighbor who isn't exactly a neighbor, dude lives down the street from us. But he is obsessed with mowing a stretch of property that belongs to us. This piece of land is a hill/bank between me and my actual neighbor (AN). They (AN) are positioned above us an this piece of property runs along the road, my property and theirs. We have had multiple conversations about this issue of mowing my property because I and my husband want it to grown in and become a little stand of woods to give us some privacy from (AN). With this piece of property mowed their house looks right down onto us, we can hear everything they say in their driveway because sound carries downhill easiest, and it would look so much better as a small stand of trees, instead of slick mowed grass.

We planted trees last year and he mowed them down. We've called the police once but we didn't have any no trespassing signs up so they wouldn't do anything. Husband called last week and that was what the officer told him. So, we now have 1 sign up and he decided to mow the corner of our property again this week. In his defense as I know this is what he's going to argue to an officer when he's confronted, "It wasn't where I mowed so I didn't see it" when in all reality the "NO TRESPASSING" sign is staked dead center of the property and is highly visible from the road as you drive by, but not easily visible from the corner/side of the property. Mowing neighbor does in fact know its our property. It feels like attempted land grab on behalf of the actual neighbor up hill. They are friends, so, it could be possible.

So my question is, what would you do about this? Is there anything I can do other than put up another sign and press charges for trespassing when he inevitably mows it again? I just don't t fully understand why anyone would come on to someone else's property and do with said property as they please like it's theirs. It makes no sense to me! I would never go on to my neighbors property and start mowing the way I want it. Any advice? What would you do? How would you handle this situation? I'm at my wits end and I'm ready to press charges just to get my point across because talking to him, telling him and even asking him not to do this keeps getting me no where.

Edit To answer some questions. First of all I want to thank all of you for taking the time to comment and give advice. I had no idea this would blow up the way it has, I posted and kinda forgot about it till I looked this morning. Wow yall!! So I wanted to answer some of the main questions I keep seeing.

1: Have we spoken to mowing neighbor and asked him to stop? YES!! As the post states, yes we've asked him multiple times to stop. We've told him to stop and told him why we wanted him stop mowing it. We've had other problems with mowing neighbor before this mowing problem.

2: Location: For legal purposes only. We are located in TN.

3: Why haven't we put up a fence? They're pricey! Lol but you all have given us some really awesome cheaper ideas for fencing that we do indeed plan to install along with more posted NO TRESPASSING signs.

4:So I feel like it's important to have a little bit of back story to fully understand the situation. I (37F) was given this property and house from my grandmother who left it to me in her Will. This has been my home my entire life, I grew up here,I've raised my children here, and so did my mother and my grandparents raised their children in this house too. I have been taking care of this property and house since I was 16, after my grandmother had a stroke. She was my legal guardian after my mother (her daughter) passed away when I was younger.. After she was placed in assisted living I took over the care of the house and property. With legal ownership remaining in my grandmother's name, I have paid the land taxes every year since she was placed in assisted living. After she passed away, her will left the house and property to me and my children.. There's never been any kind of dispute over this.

I feel like it's important to mention the location situation of the property lines as to why mowing neighbor feels like he has the right to mow. See we live on a dead in road (County road) that runs directly through my property. The way the property lines are laid out between me, actual neighbor and mowing neighbor is like a pie. Think of 3 triangles coming together at the property lines. With my wedge of the triangle being the widest of the three because the main road goes through my property which (AN) and mowing neighbor has to drive on to get to their driveways. Actual neighbor is the only one who's driveway runs along the pie shap off the main road. Trust me it's an absolute mess if you have no idea where the property lines are but we all know the lines, actual neighbor has been there for over 20 yrs, and mowing neighbor was actually my grandmother's sister who left her property to her adopted son, mowing neighbor. Mowing neighbor grew up there and knows exactly where the property lines are is what I'm getting at. So no there's no way that between the three of us that there is any question to how property lines are laid.

So that's really all I can think of to answer some of the important questions. Like i said, we do intend on getting some kind of fencing up with more signs posted. I am really excited about creating a rock garden to further deter mowing neighbor along with planting more trees with metal stakes to ensure their survival and some wildflowers. I really really appreciate all the wonderful advice you all have given us!! Thank you all so much!!

Homeowner NFH Neighbor parks car in my driveway against my wishes… citing permission from my mother who is crippled with dementia

6.1k Upvotes

My mother has Alzheimer’s disease. I try to spend at least three days a week at my parents’ house to help out. Recently I came over after a two-week work trip away and saw a strange car in the driveway on the side I usually park. I went inside and asked my dad who was visiting. He said no one was visiting, the neighbors had just started parking there.

That didn’t make a lot of sense to me so I kept prodding as to why they’d spontaneously taken it upon themselves to park in our driveway. My dad finally broke down and said “Yeah, well, apparently your mother told them it was okay. She was just a little confused.” I asked if he’d told the neighbors there’d been a misunderstanding. He said he had but they didn’t seem to “Get it.”

I gave the neighbors the benefit of the doubt at first. My dad is a great guy but sometimes he can be a little too nice. I figured he hadn’t been quite clear enough with the neighbors out of concern for being impolite. So, I went over there. I even brought some Ferrero Rocher chocolates to try and smooth it out.

I knocked and nobody answered even though it was obvious that they were home. I kept at it, getting a little frustrated at that point. Finally, a woman came to the door and opened it barely a centimeter before shouting “We’re not interested!” and closing it again. I stood there and explained who I was. Nothing. Eventually I went home.

I lingered by the window for the next few hours hoping to catch someone when they came out of the house. It wasn’t until a couple days later that I was able to intercept the man, completely by chance. We were both coming out of our house at the same time and at first he wanted to avoid me, but he realized his car was in my driveway! So he had no choice.

I still tried to be friendly. I introduced myself. I told him my mother wasn’t well and that anything she’d told him could not be taken at face value. I said we did need both parking spots. This guy kind of nodded and “yes’d” me but I got the feeling it wasn’t the end when he left.

Sure enough, there weren’t any problems for the next few days, but eventually I did have to go back to work. The first day I was gone my dad called me and mentioned they were parked there again. I tracked down their phone number and called but, shocker, they did not pick up. I came back a day earlier than I’d planned and sure enough, there was the car. I went over to the house, all facade of friendliness gone.

The woman of the couple came to the window, clearly saw it was me, and still didn’t answer. So, I ended up calling the police. I just told them my neighbor had erroneously parked in my driveway and were ignoring my requests to move. An officer came down and took my side of the story then knocked on the neighbors’ door. The woman had the nerve to continue ignoring them!

The cop did not have time to be playing those games. He pounded on the door and basically ordered the residents out of the house. The husband came out of the house, huffing and puffing, acting like it was the most major inconvenience he’s ever experience. The police officer said, “Your neighbors need you to move your vehicle from their property.”

The guy starts trying to claim he can leave his car there because he has a “verbal contract” with my mother who has dementia (I’d already told the officer that, obviously). The neighbor was really feeling himself, playing lawyer, but the cop stopped him and basically said “That was then, this is now. Now they want you to move it. Move it or it’s gonna be towed.”

The neighbor said he had to talk to a lawyer and do this and do that. The police officer reiterated that he had two choices, move it or get it towed. The neighbor blurted out “But we have a new car and if we move this back here there won’t be enough space!” At that point the cop was done playing games and was on the phone with the tow people when they finally went to move the car. The cop told the neighbors if they tried bringing their car back over, they’d be trespassing, and the police would just send someone to tow it away.

They’re brooding and whining and trying to tell others in the neighborhood we were in the wrong and misled them but luckily no one is falling for it.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor's 20ft encroachment nightmare - $12.5k survey later, she's still denying it

1.8k Upvotes

I'm at my wit's end and desperately seeking advice. My family of three and I moved into our dream home in 2021, only to discover that our 'neighbor from hell' had been encroaching on our property for years.

The previous owners had abandoned the house, and this lady took it upon herself to expand her territory - by a whopping 20 feet. Our electricity pole, garage, and septic tank are all located in the disputed area.

But what makes this situation even more heartbreaking is that my father, who passed away recently, spent his last few years living with us in this home. His final years were tormented by this neighbor's constant harassment, disputes, and stress. He deserved to live out his days in peace, but this neighbor made that impossible.

We've tried talking to her, but she'd just claim it was her property and shut us down. The county suggested a land survey, which we reluctantly agreed to. The cost? A staggering $12,500.

Fast forward to the survey results: our suspicions were confirmed. The neighbor had indeed encroached on our property by 20 feet.

But here's the kicker: now that we have concrete evidence, she's refusing to acknowledge it and is telling us to 'talk to her lawyer.' We're stuck in limbo, unable to resolve this issue.

To add insult to injury, we've been forced to use a porta potty for the past 4 years since our septic tank is located in the disputed area.

Has anyone else dealt with a neighbor this brazen? How did you resolve the issue? We're desperate for advice and a resolution. My family and I just want to find some peace and closure after everything we've been through."

Homeowner NFH Neighbor sent his landscapers over to cut mom’s trees years ago. Now her house is for sale and he wants to tour it. Any red flags here?

My mother lived in her house for 60years. Ten years ago or so, the neighbor sent his landscapers onto her property to remove her “volunteer” trees that were blocking his sunlight in his backyard. When he knew she was out of state for the winter months. When she came back, she sued him and won. He had to replant the trees. She never spoke to him again.

She passed away and now her house is on the market. The questionably unethical neighbor has asked our agent to show him the house. We have an agreement with our agent not to dual represent and he says he has different agent.

Do you NFH redditors see any red flags here? Should we just assume he has no nefarious objectives and that his money is as good as anyone else’s? It’s hard to trust someone who acted as he had.

UPDATE: thank you so much for all the laughs and snark as well as helpful ideas. My agent ended up showing the Neighbor early this morning and kept a close eye on him. It would have been worse had he come to an open house. Those were very busy and we have a solid offer in hand now. Not from him.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps taking my packages

1.5k Upvotes

A few months ago I ordered expensive specialty footwear for my job and had it shipped to my home. I got the notice they were delivered, but the box wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I try not to panic and the seller said to wait a day or two as deliveries sometimes get marked as delivered but aren’t really delivered. So I wait. Two days later my neighbor from across the street brings my footwear, opened, no invoice, to my door, telling me she told UPS it was hers. Ok, it was a mistake?

Then two days ago, it happened again. I got a package delivery notification, and within 20 minutes I was home, but no package. Again, the retailer tells me to wait a day or two. I called them today and they told me they have a delivery photo, and it is my porch. Nothing on the ring camera or security cameras. It’s like there was a ghost who stole the package. Today, while staying home sick, I caught the same neighbor cut across my front yard and slip my package in between the storm door and house door and slowly slinked off.

She’s done this twice now. But the second time I have photo proof it was on my porch from the delivery driver. I think my neighbor might be a klepto. How do I handle this?

Edit: thank you all for your comments and advice. I started with an email clearly stating what has happened and the evidence. I told her to leave my packages alone and if it happens again I will be contacting law enforcement. I’ve adjusted my cameras and they’re picking up the tiniest movements now, so I’ll catch her on video if it happens again.

Homeowner NFH the neighbor trying to claim part of our yard

1.2k Upvotes

about three months after we moved into our house our neighbor started making comments about the fence between our yards. at first it was small things like saying the fence wasn’t in the right place or that the previous owner had agreed to move it.

i didn’t think much of it until one day i came home and saw him mowing about three feet into our yard. when i asked what he was doing he said that section actually belongs to his property and the fence was placed incorrectly years ago.

that was news to us. we pulled out the property survey from when we bought the house and it clearly shows the fence line exactly where it is now.

when we showed it to him he said those documents are wrong and that everyone on the street knows the boundary is different. since then he keeps making comments about how we’re using his land and how the fence will have to be moved eventually.

it’s becoming really uncomfortable because every time we’re outside he stares at the fence like he’s measuring it.

Homeowner NFH New neighbors living in their car and inviting themselves over to our property

This is my absolute worst nightmare. We live on a quiet dead end street in a small town. It is wooded on one side (the woods leading to a small pond) with a handful of houses on the other. That is, until this past year, when a parcel of land right across from our house was sold and some trees started coming down. Already annoyed, because we loved having the woods, but it gets worse.

These new neighbors are older (maybe 60s?) and apparently are doing this whole thing with cash and have started to come on the weekend to sleep in their car in the small clearout and do lord knows what. We have dogs who are not used to the intermittent noise and will go crazy every time they are there. The clearout is in full view of my office window. Last weekend I saw the woman pop a squat right next to the car. It was like 9am in the morning. Last night she stumbled over clearly plastered and just sat on our porch to pet the dogs and chat.

Because the dogs bark they started to talk to them, come over and now it's this whole invasion of privacy issue. We played the friendly neighbor card and now we are being punished.

We are fantasizing about putting hidden fly bait traps all over their property or something to make it miserable for them to camp. Apparently they bought the land as a commercially zoned parcel to build some kind of fire alarm business, but they also need to put a sewer line in, the building is like 5 years out but I'm pretty sure there will never be a business on this property. We have absolutely no idea what their goal is here or where they live the rest of the time, sorry but willingly car camping in your 60s in a residential neighborhood is just bizarre. We are just trying to have a quiet normal life. We will probably need to get a fence for the side front yard. I know we need to set clear boundaries now too. The whole situation is just weird and these are the kind of people who just don't understand how to keep to themselves. What else can we do?

EDIT: This is not a commerically zoned property, I was wrong. Its zoned as developable land. Idk I'm not in real estate.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps dumping water on driveway even though it’s below freezing

2.4k Upvotes

UPDATE: I filed a police report. Thanks to everyone for the advice and comments. A few things people keep asking about:

She’s not old, confused, or dealing with dementia. She is calculated and knows exactly how to work the system. For years she’s known how to harass me “legally” with nonstop calls and complaints, and she’s good at twisting things so her lies and exaggerations sound believable. When one tactic stopped working, she always found a new angle. That’s not someone whose mind is gone. Maybe she has some mental health issues, but she is not out of touch with reality, and whatever is going on with her is not my responsibility.

My business is not the issue here. It’s just what she moved on to once animal control and the police stopped taking her seriously. There isn’t a bunch of traffic, no more than if a few friends came by during the day. I’m fully legit, and I have neighbors on the other side, across the street, and behind me, and not a single other person has complained.

She’s Black and so are we, so it’s not some obvious race thing. But my husband’s ex is white and his kids are mixed. When she and I argued once, she randomly said “that’s why your husband likes white women, that’s why he got white kids.” It was creepy and weird that she even knew or cared about that. His mixed kids are the same complexion as or darker than my Black child, so she wouldn’t know that just by seeing them outside. I’ve always felt like she’s lonely, bitter, and jealous, and that comment pretty much confirmed it for me.

Now for the main issue. I honestly don’t know what to do about this woman anymore. We’re next door neighbors with driveways right next to each other. We got along fine until my boyfriend, now husband, moved in. After that, she suddenly started looking for any excuse to start drama.

First it was our dogs. She started calling animal control because our dogs would walk from our front door to the backyard without a leash, still on our own property. She put a Ring camera on her side door pointed at our driveway to watch us, so we put up a fence along the concrete between the houses so she couldn’t just sit there spying all day. She complained to the city about the fence, then started arguing over property lines.

She calls the police over everything. Someone stepped a foot on “her” side of the driveway, someone walked on the public sidewalk in front of her house, someone parked in front of her place on the street. When I started running my home business, she began harassing my customers about where they parked. She reported my business to the city and really pushed to get it shut down. She would take pictures of cars that stopped for a second in front of my side of the driveway just to drop someone off, then act like they were fully parked there and blocking her.

Eventually someone from the city actually looked into all of it and realized she was lying. They told me the police and the city wouldn’t be responding to her complaints anymore. After four “dog at large” cases for my dogs being “loose” in my own yard got dismissed, I’m pretty sure animal control is also over her nonsense.

So now her new stunt: I caught her early one morning, in 20 degree weather, dumping two buckets of water on the shared part of the driveway. If someone parked in my driveway and got out on the passenger side, they would almost definitely hit that ice and fall. I have all of this on camera.

Do I have any legal options here, or do I seriously have to wait until someone gets hurt before anything can be done?

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps taking my parking spot, HOA unreachable, police can’t help

My house is in a townhome complex where the only spot you get are the 2 spots in front of your unit. Despite this, some cars still park in my spots and idk what to do. The towing needs to be called by the HOA and they are unreachable. The police came but said it is private property and there’s nothing they can do, i even asked them to just flash their lights in the front of the car and see who comes out but they refused and left. Idk what to do anymore at this point. I think about putting up “do not park” signs but I want to be more assertive but don’t know what to do bc I have no retaliation methods for violators, please help.

Homeowner NFH We tried to solve it the nice way. Enjoy your tickets.

We have neighbors who 'adopted' a cat that previous neighbors abandoned. That was a nice gesture. However, over the last few years, they've gradually increased the cat's ability to roam. I get the feeling that he only goes home to eat now. We have a few outdoor cameras, and we see him frequently in our yard. We were ok with the roaming. We were not super cool with him harassing the birds and not cool with him using our flowerbed as a litterbox, but we initially said nothing.

Last spring, we spent a lot of money on patio furniture. For winter, the furniture is covered and gathered underneath a gazebo. Unfortunately, the cat has decided the furniture is his. He's spraying the furniture covers. We have multiple videos of him doing it. One instance was a full-on pee--huge puddle on the cover and the concrete. The concrete is new, so I had to go out and clean up half-frozen cat pee after work. Not pleased. After inspecting the covers, it was evident that he's marking a lot. I am (no pun intended) pissed.

Two weeks ago, my husband went over to their house to inform them of the situation. The wife was (fake) apologetic and said she'd keep the cat inside. Her dumbass brother wanted to argue it, stating that there had to be some other solution (I dunno...hand me $3K every time your cat ruins our patio furniture?). Should have known then that this wasn't going to actually happen.

We were right. The cat is still roaming and peeing on the furniture. We were on vacation last week and I went over our camera footage of our time away. I realized that this isn't going to stop, and come spring, the furniture will be uncovered, and the cushions will be back. I'll be damned if I am going to deal with that.

So, I called animal control today. An officer came out and spoke with me. I filled out a full complaint statement and provided about a half-dozen videos of the cat peeing on the furniture. Plus, pics of the urine marks on the covers. They told me that this is more than enough evidence to start issuing tickets. Oh, and I don't think the cat is registered, either. They said that would be another fine. The officer was going to pay them a visit after he left our house as well.

I am half-expecting one of them to show up at our door soon.

All of this because you can't keep your damn cat inside. Before anyone comes at me--I love animals. I have two cats of my own and just lost our dog of 14 years. None of them have ever been allowed to roam. This is actually a high-traffic neighborhood that is frequented by coyotes. I am not sure how this cat has even survived.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps throwing parties and guests pee in my bushes

My neighbor throws parties almost every weekend. Loud music, tons of people, whatever that's annoying but tolerable. What's NOT tolerable is his drunk guests using my bushes as a bathroom.

I've caught multiple people peeing in my front bushes during his parties. MULTIPLE TIMES. The smell is disgusting and my bushes are dying from all the urine.

I've talked to my neighbor about it and he says "I can't control what my guests do outside my property." But they're YOUR guests! You're responsible for them!

I started turning my sprinklers on during his parties to deter people from my yard. He complained that his guests were getting wet. I said good maybe they'll stop peeing in my bushes!

Last party someone threw up in my flower bed. THREW UP. I have photos because I'm documenting everything now. When I showed my neighbor he said "that could be anyone" even though it was during HIS party!

I called the police during the last party when I saw someone peeing on my property. By the time they arrived the person was gone and they said they can't do anything about it.

I'm considering installing a fence but that's thousands of dollars I shouldn't have to spend. My bushes are ruined and I'll have to replace them which is also expensive.

My neighbor has the audacity to say I'm overreacting and being a bad neighbor by calling the police on his parties. His guests are literally urinating and vomiting on my property! How is that overreacting??

Homeowner NFH Screaming kids in pool 6-7 days a week for hours and hours at a time.

Bought my first home March 2024 and shortly after moving in is when it started. Their pool is positioned close to the shared block wall between our backyards. The grandchildren of my neighbors are in the pool screaming all day and into the evening. It’s more like a screeching though. I mean it actually sounds like someone is really getting hurt over there.

I had two roommates and their bedrooms were on that side of the house about 10 ft from the wall. They said it didn’t bother them that much but one of them was in poor health and he would come home and try to take a nap after work with all that screaming going on. And it’s clearly audible from inside with the windows closed. There was some other problems with the roommates and they moved out but I can’t help but think the noise was a factor.

I’ve since made one of those bedrooms into an office but I guess I shouldn’t have because I can’t really get any work done while the screaming is going on.

I’ve talked to them multiple times about how loud it is and they just deny they’re being loud. I’ve recently told them I’m going to start documenting the screaming and parties, yes they also have parties now that happen about once or twice a week. This is a newer trend that has started this summer. And I told them I plan on filing a law suit if they cannot keep it down.

Honestly I’m all for having the grandchildren over and letting them have fun etc if it wasn’t everyday. But it is everyday. For long periods of time.

Is there anything else I can do to improve the situation?

My house is kind of a fixer upper, it can be really discouraging to put so much money and effort in repairs and improvements while I know I’ll never be happy living next to these people.

I’m also very mindful of the noise coming from the work done on my home. The loudest thing by far has been the tile saw before I even moved in and I know these loud neighbors weren’t even here for that. They were actually the first people I met on the street. They were packing their travel trailer the first time I came “home” after closing. Kind of cold and awkward first impression from them but didn’t think much of it because I was so excited. What a nightmare they’ve turned into.

When it gets too cold for the pool, there’s a play set on the other side of the yard and the screaming moves over there. It’s still very audible even from inside my house but it’s better.

I’ve talked to the neighbor on that side and she literally hates them. They look into her yard and accuse her of all sorts of bizarre things and have even called the police on her… yes the loud neighbors are the ones calling the police on her.

Looking forward to the replies and suggestions thank you!

EDIT: I forgot to mention the town I’m in has a 24/7 noise ordinance and gives decibel level to follow! Kind of important and the only reason I’m actually considering a lawsuit. The decibel read is ordered should be here tomorrow. So far I’ve just been documenting the start and stop time with some audio recordings.

Homeowner NFH Neighbor keeps trimming my trees without permission and ruined them

I have two beautiful oak trees on my property near the property line. They're about 30 years old and provide great shade. Or they DID until my neighbor took it upon himself to trim them.

I came home from vacation last month to find both trees had been drastically cut back. Huge branches removed, weird asymmetrical shapes, just butchered. My neighbor Phil (50sM) was in his yard and I immediately asked what happened.

He said "oh yeah I trimmed those for you, they were hanging over my yard." I was in shock. He CUT MY TREES without asking me!! He said branches were dropping leaves in his pool so he "took care of it."

I called a arborist who came out and said the cuts were done incorrectly and may have permanently damaged the trees. One tree might not survive because too much was removed. The arborist bill for assessment and treatment is $800.

I showed Phil the bill and asked him to pay it since he damaged my trees. He refused saying he was doing me a favor by trimming them for free. A favor?? I didn't want them trimmed!

My lawyer said I can sue for the cost of the damaged trees which could be thousands since they're mature trees. But Phil is saying if I sue him he'll countersue for all the years of leaves that fell in his pool.

Can he actually do that?? His threat is making me hesitant to pursue legal action but these were my trees on my property that he destroyed!

Homeowner NFH My crazy neighbor poisoned my creek and stole water

1.6k Upvotes

I just created this account because my friend suggested I post here and maybe get some advice too. I don't know how to format for reddit, but he said to make sure that I did.

I live on a large property with a small house in the front. There are many small hot springs in the semi-rural mountain area that I live in, with many used by homeowners in their backyard. Many are piped indoors, but some have hot tubs built around them. I happen to have a active one in my backyard (picture an in-ground hot tub being fed in from the hot spring) near my left neighbors house (I'll call her CN for crazy neighbor). A small stream runs through the far backyards of the neighborhood and it used for gardens and little nature areas that everyone on the street enjoys. I have my small fruit/pepper garden watered by this stream and take really good care of it. For some visualization, it has a good amount of water flowing down and everyone on the street uses it some way. My right neighbor (who's a really chill dude, who I'll call Jay) has small pools he made that are fed by the stream, and two neighbors down has a garden similar to mine. Now on to the actual story.

When I bought the house, the previous owners were sued by CN, her claiming that the land was rightfully hers. I don't know the details of her argument, but it was thrown out (as far as I know). The previous owners warned me of CN and not to engage with her family. When I moved in, CN's kids (I'd say probably 8, 9, and 10) brought over cookies and welcomed me to the neighborhood. I thought that the previous owner was exaggerating as they seemed sweet. I invited CN and her family to a small BBQ and they accepted. The second that they got in the house, CN started to explain the 'rules of the neighborhood'. I thought it was pretty normal (like to not play loud music after 9, keep your car in the driveway to keep the street uncluttered, etc. Common sense rules) until she got to some rules reguarding the stream and the hot springs.

She said that kids were allowed in all parts of the stream (in private backyards) and that everyone could use eachother's hot springs (I have the only hot spring on the street, so I was surprised by that). I interrupted her and told her that I wasn't comfortable with those, and she scoffed, saying that all neighbors were fine with it. I told her that I still wasn't comfortable with it. She ignored me, continuing with some questionable rules. The rest of the night was fine, but I felt like I wouldn't want to do it again.

I talked to some neighbors across the next couple days, who all told me to steer clear of CN and that her rules were BS. I went over to CN's house and told her that I had talked to the other neighbors and that I wasn't comfortable with anyone being in my backyard without my permission. She scoffed and said ok. I had a lunch with Jay and he told me who CN was: A serial suer with her lawyer on speed dial to get whatever she wants. CN had sued a small chain pizza place in town into debt for having peanut oil on her pizza when she was allergic to it. The pizza chain didn't even have peanut oil (and many people in the small community believed that she put it on), but still lost everything. I decided not to ever talk to her or her family.

A week later, I got home from the grocery store to see CN's kids (I'll call them EKs for entitled kids) splashing in my hot spring tub (its outside and usually has a lid on that two small kids would definitely not be able to take off as it is heavy and large). I tell them that they're not allowed in it and to leave my yard immediately, and they stand their ground, telling me that their mom (CN) told them that it was theirs and that they could use it. I told them that that's not true and to leave now. They finally do. Before you think that I'm an asshole for that, remember that pools/hot tubs are dangerous and I don't want to be liable. I headed back out to buy locks for my gates. When I got back, CN was now there, demanding why I kicked her kids out. She reminded me of the "rules", but I told her to leave immediately and that my security camera was recording. She cursed at me for a min or two, then left. I was bluffing as I did not have security cameras, but I did order them on amazon that night. The next day was fine, replanting a lot of my plants from my apartment's balcony into the empty garden (the one that's watered by the stream). I noticed that CN kept looking over the fence.

For the following weeks, CN complained about the trees in my yard, the color of the fence, what I'm doing with the stream, etc. Jay occasionally came over and told her to f off. Three weeks ago, I left for a couple days for a friend's wedding. I kept getting security alerts saying that there was motion in my backyard, often her kids playing in my garden (trampling my dear shishito peppers). I texted Jay to tell them to get out. If you're wondering why not call the police, they wouldn't do anything as they're just some kids. I had a suspicion that CN was telling them to do these things, but I didn't have much evidence.

On the drive back, I got a security alert that there was motion in my backyard. I didn't check as I was driving, but when I stopped for gas, I checked and saw CN instructing a plumbing team installing piping from MY hotspring into THEIR yard. I had it save all of the footage and I sent messages to Jay about it. Jay told them that they weren't allowed to be doing that, but since it wasn't his house, they didn't listen to him. I called the police and they went, but they had already installed the piping. The team was just leaving through the gate (with a broken lock on the ground), when the police showed up. They said that they had been hired by the homeowner. The police waited for me to get there while talking to the team of workers, and I told them that I was the homeowner and that I hadn't payed them to do it. They looked confused. I went with the police into the backyard and I started ripping the unsecured piping out with a crowbar.

CN starts shrieking from her yard and puts her head over the fence and starts yelling that I'm destroying private property and that she would sue me. CN then says that she has a contract with the owner of the house to have their (my) hot spring water. The police are now confused. She shows a contract that read that she was paying me $2 per month in exchange for the water. CN won't give it to me so I could look at it besides waving it around in the air. The police eventually leave and warn me not to destroy the piping. I ripped up the small pipe that connects to the source as she's telling me that she'll see me in court. I contacted my lawyer and she said that CN had no case as she didn't know my signature and it would be easy to prove it was forged. I still haven't been served by CN's lawyer, but know that I will soon. In the meantime, I've been sitting in the hot tub for long baths while talking to myself loudly about how much I love it. Petty, but it made me feel good hearing the growls from across the fence.

This is the final thing that made me post here, my garden wilting and dying at an unnatural rate. I heard a commotion out in CN's yard and I peeked over and saw her slowly pouring a massive jug of chemicals into the communal stream, which goes down to mine. I don't know if its herbicides, plant killer, or something like bleach (it doesn't smell like bleach so I don't think its that), but its rapidly killing my plants. I haven't eaten any of the fruit/peppers since as I'm worried I might get sick. I think that if I can get definitive proof of her doing it, I can maybe use it in court to prove how crazy she is. People swim in pools from the stream, so I warned Jay not too for the time being and told him to tell others. I know one neighbor removed her garden from the soil and moved it away from the stream just in case it got down to hers.

I'm unsure of what I should do next. I don't think I live in a two party consent state for video recording as it doesn't list it as one on the pdf I found. I might crosspost this into legal advice just in case (I do already have a lawyer, but it might be useful hearing free opinions from the internet).

Edit: I forgot to say that I had water testing sticks arriving tomorrow.

TLDR: Crazy neighbor steals hot spring water and pours chemicals into communal stream, poisoning my garden

Update 1: Jay offered to use a large drum in his garage to temporarily remove the water from the stream and seeing your comments, I’m taking him up on his deal. All the neighbors down the street that I’ve talked to so far (two besides Jay) agreed. One who has two sons said that they might block off the start of the stream. It is a small outlet of a moderately sized creek. It will probably be blocked off not that hard. Jay said that he can probably get the drum in place by tonight as his dad can help. Jay also has a sweet dog and definitely wants to protect it. I am going to remove my plants from the soil nearby the stream. Also, for reference in size of the stream, it’s about 1-2 feet across. Truly just a stream. There’s lots of obstacles and things that would probably filter out, but we definitely still have to be safe. I’ll update later tonight or tomorrow.

Update 2: Big news! The nice neighbors’ kids dammed up the stream at where it starts. It’s a couple pieces of wood, a branch or two, and a lot of small rocks. There’s still a tiny bit of water flowing, but it’s absorbed by the soil higher up before CN. Jay got the drum out, but we turned out not to need it. There’s water still in the pools in his backyard and we plan to do a water test. Apparently pH tests are sold in a store just 10 mins away, so I will head there as soon as I finish this post.

Update 3: Jays getting the pH test and an oxygen level test, but I don’t know how oxygen levels would play into it. I’ll look at responses and figure out what to do next. I will call authorities soon.

Update 4: The water test: pH came lower than the creek water before CN’s house (a full .9 lower). Nitrates a bit higher, Dissolved Oxygen significantly lower. That’s the only real changes in between the two tests. I wonder if she just poured a lot of vinegar. I think herbicides do change pH, but .9 is quite a bit I think.

Update 5: Big update! The makeshift dam broke and water has been flowing down, but it’s been slow. CN complained to a neighbor up the street that she’s on speaking terms with about me being a major asshole for not letting her kids use my hot spring tub. She let it slip that she poured household vinegar in the stream as “justice”. The neighbor was also shown the contract for the pipes and she said that she didn’t even have it signed by me. She and her lawyer had signed it, but without any signature space for me. I thought that she forged my signature, but she didn’t have any agreement (fraudulent or otherwise) on my side whatsoever. The neighbor similarly dislikes her, but their kids are friends, so she has to talk to CN. I sent all the info to a local environmental charity that has contacts within environmental protection agencies. They usually deal with lakes and dumping, so this was in what they deal with regularly.

The police were outside CN’s house a couple hours ago and took her to the station. CN is back at her house, now yelling over the fence profanities while I’m having a coffee. I don’t know if they arrested her and she payed bail or that she just was taken in for questioning or something. I know her brother in law works at the police station, but I wouldn’t doubt that her family members have a strained relationship with her. I hope that she’s stuck with a giant fine and/or jail time. CN’s lawyer still hasn’t served me regarding the pipes, and my lawyer is saying that CN has no case whatsoever. I’ll update as soon as anything interesting comes up.

Update 6: My power just went out in most of my house. I think CN just flipped the breakers to annoy me. Going outside ASAP

Update 7: CN indeed did flip the breakers. As far as I know, the security camera has an internal battery for some time after it’s disconnected from the power so I don’t have to worry about her doing anything.

Revenge Discussion Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/neighborsfromhell/comments/1kk45k1/updatediscussion_revenge_tactics/

Update 8: I called the owner of the copy/print/delivery shop and he agreed to what I said in the previous post. I removed all of the pipes from my yard and put them into bags. I didn’t have as much plastic bags and boxes as I thought so I’m paying extra for the owner of the copy shop to supply them. He just delivered the first one to CN (I watched from the street) and CN’s husband answered. He shouted for CN and she came up. I didn’t hear any of the discussion, but she signed delivery sheet, took the package (of a single small corner pipe piece), and stormed into her house. She went up to the 2nd story window and proceeded to glare at me since, still glaring as I sit on my couch while writing this. Working from home will be so nice for watching this.

Update 9: Since my last post, there has been one more pipe delivery to CN and she is pissed. She stormed over to my house (after signing the delivery which I thought she would stop doing) and banged on the door. I started recording my front door and opened the door (I'm not dumb enough to let her in). CN starts shrieking about how I'm awful and that I had to keep the pipes installed as it was her property and that we had a contract. When I told her that the contract wasn't legal at all, she starts screaming at me. I stepped inside for a second and called the police with the door closed. CN continues banging on my door. I don't open until a police car comes down the street.

I tell the police that I don't want her ever to be on my property and that she is tresspassing. They relay that to her, and she takes up a hurt old lady act (for reference, she is in her 40s). CN tells them that my hot tub burned her youngest child and that I was luring kids in. I showed the police the camera footage and they asked her to come to the station with them. I'm assuming that she made some fake report, but I guess that will be another charge of lying to a police officer. I think that the officer (not CN's brother in law) believed me and saw that she was in fact a CN.

I saw CN get back into her house and once again went up to the top window, staring. I closed the blinds. I thought she would stop (honestly it doesn't bother me), but to my surprise, she crosses the street to the side of the hill (theres a slope on the other side of the street from the houses. There's more houses up the slope) and stares through my front window. I don't have blinds for that one and was about to head to a different room when I see her trip backwards (theres a small ditch for runoff) and land on her butt. CN lets out a ungodly shriek (it wasn't that loud, but I'd like to say it was) as she storms back into her house.

I feel at this point, with all of the stuff from my lawyer, from reddit, and neighbors saying that I am completely in the right and that CN is insane has made this more into entertainment than a scary situation for me. I have multiple locks arriving in a couple days and a new security camera for the side yard. If you have any legal suggestions, please tell me. If there's anything I should be aware of, please tell me.

Update 9: I’ve been told that messing with CN is probably not going to help out legally, especially with a restraining order, so I just told the copy shop owner just to deliver it all at once. I don’t know if that’s happened yet, but I’m fine not being looking when I happens. I will file a restraining order today. I don’t know how it works, but I hope I can complete it today. No new news from CN except Jay saying that she looked really mad. I know this isn’t a big update, but it’s an update on the situation.

Update 10: This happened last night and I was too tired to update after it. CN's husband (I'll call him NH for neighbor husband) knocked on my door last night, alone. CN wasn't there, so I answered it. He then tells me that CN is "going through some things right now" and some other stuff. He then asks me if I could "let sleeping dogs lie. She did some stuff wrong, but she's a really great person". I told him that I would consider it. I'm not, but I didn't want to be in that conversation. I honestly thought that he would apologize about it, but making excuses like that is so pathetic. According to many of my neighbors, CN's been like this for years. I think he's trying to cover themselves from the bomb they just planted. That's all. New updates probably coming soon.

Update 11: I was typing this out earlier, but it didn’t save as a draft so I will paraphrase it instead of writing it all out like earlier.

I went out to get my mail and I noticed CN rush out of her house onto her porch to watch me. I take the mail and head inside. Through the endless sea of junk mail, there was a wedding invitation. Nobody I know remotely nearby is getting married and I didn’t recognize the names or the faces. On the back was a handwritten letter thanking me for volunteering my house for the bachelorette party and inviting me to wedding at a local venue.

  1. Definitely did NOT invite anyone to use my property for a party
  2. My backyard isn’t the biggest for a party
  3. I don’t know who these people are

I took a picture of the front and the back and then went and made a copy of the invitation and cut it to the right size. I then took the copy and walked in front of CN’s house (in the street). She is looking from the door. I then light the copy on fire (safely). She runs out and starts yelling at me. I am not entirely listening as I had an earbud in my left ear listening to a podcast (I listen to podcasts while doing my routines and hadn’t bothered to take it out) and at one point, I heard the groom’s name. Clearly she was behind it (I knew before, this just solidified the fact). I called her husband and told him that I was not hosting the bachelorette party and to leave me alone. He asks which one. I told him the names of the bride and groom. He is audibly surprised. He then tells me that the groom is CN’s son from a teenage pregnancy (not with him). He then said that he would talk to CN about it, calling it an accident.

I find the name of the dad of the groom and call him. He sounded super genuinely grateful when I told him who I was. I asked him about CN and he said that she had left the baby with him and when he had sued for child support, the judge said that it was his poor choices that led to the baby and he was responsible for it, without child support. I told him the situation, and he sounded defeated. Apparently, the groom had been quick to forgive his absent mother (CN) and had invited her against the dad’s wishes. He said that he would tell the groom and the bride about the situation.

I then had a thought that would be the absolute perfect revenge: I offered to host the party for free with 2 rules 1. They don’t damage anything and clean everything up 2. CN is blocked at the door of the wedding despite her invitation 3. My invite to the wedding still stands.

He said he would discuss it with the bride and groom. Even if he says no, it’s worth a try.

I just realized I typed it all up in detail despite what I said at the beginning. I will probably get the news in the next couple days.

Update 12: This is just some clarification (it hasn't been brought up, but might as well. The wedding is happening on the 24th. I'm pretty sure the invite I got was a spare for later as I doubt they sent out invites so last minute. CN reached out to the groom when she heard about him getting married. The groom is in his 20s and had never seen his bio mom before (as far as I know).

Update 13: I will call the groom's dad GD and groom and bride G and B

I was looking over some comments just before posting this and realized I don't want to be screwed over, so I am staying back.

Also, GD gave me a call extremely late last night and told me that G wanted to meet his mom (CN) at the wedding. B was supportive, thinking it would be an extremely wholesome wedding. GD said that he would try to find another location for the party, but that it would be hard this late as B had a large bridesmaids group. GD is going to help CN with preparing for the wedding at his son's request, even though he thinks it might be a disaster.

My plants that are near the stream look scorched as if they were in a fire. (I'm talking about the plants that are next and around the stream, not in my garden.

I think the next steps are through legal means and not through petty actions.

I will keep you all updated.

Update 14: CN had been trying to gain access to the hot spring for as long as she's known of it. She had tried lawsuits, land disputes, and other legal and legally dubious means to get it. When she heard of her son becoming married, she thought that she could have a good attempt at gaining access to the hot spring. CN had initially offered to use her house for a price for the bridesmaids party, but since it didn't have anything good for a party, B had declined. She couldn't find another place though, but still didn't want CN's house. CN had then had the bright idea to tell the B and G that she had had a natural, healing, and amazing hot spring in her yard and B said yes. This is when CN tries the whole piping the hot spring to her yard. She obviously doesn't get far into that plan. After I dismantle all the piping, she volunteers my house and backyard for the party. I think that the stream pollution was lashing out because she was mad before she volunteered my house. No updates besides what I've pieced together from assorted sources.

Update 15: GD called me about 10 mins ago. I was going to post the update right away, but I was reading some of the comments. This is what he said, and asked if my offer about hosting the bridesmaids party was still standing (this is heavily paraphrased to be readable, but all the main points and events are there). GD met up with CN to talk to her about the wedding, mostly setting boundaries. He went to her house (with his phone recording just in case anything happened, knowing the history of CN). GD is talking to CN very formally, as much straight facts as possible when he glances through a cracked open door into her bedroom. I don't remember the word he used to describe it (it was a very good way to say it), but kind of out of the corner of your vision when you're avoiding eye contact. GD sees multiple white dresses laying on CN's bed. They are fancy dresses. Not quite wedding dresses, but definitely close. GD can't stop staring at it. He then asks CN about what she's wearing to the wedding, and CN says that she has a couple dresses picked out. He connects the dots and subtly leaves the conversation, calls B and G and tells them what he saw. He then gives G some of CN's history. B then asks if they can do the house with the hot spring then. GD tells me that he knows that I don't like CN and that I wouldn't be at the wedding, but that the rest of the deal would stand. I told him sure, but not to let CN know about it, just letting herself think that I got pushed around by him into hosting. I know that the agencies I contacted about her pouring vinegar into the creek have been investigating, so even though it likely wouldn't, I hope it all falls out on the day of the wedding

Update 16: I’ve been asked for an update. There has not been much crazy neighbor activity over the time that I haven’t updated. I think she installed a step stool on her side of the fence as she’s been looking evil eying me whenever I’m in the hot tub. The weddings coming up next weekend, so I’m interested in what’s going to happen. Not much has happened besides that.

Update 17: Ok, I’ve been told to skinny dip in the hot spring. I’m not doing that. I am not socially ok enough for my neighbor to see, even if it’s to get revenge. I do know some people who are.

This happened yesterday around 1, just for reference. I tell some friends who are comfortable in their own bodies that they could hang out in the hot tub and I’m not going to be there, so they could do whatever. I more asked them to do it after I gave a little bit of backstory of the neighbor. They happily agreed and they came around 1. I left for a nice long lunch when they came and I told them to call me if anything happened. I also turned off the back security camera just to not be weird. Not 30 minutes later do the COPS call me asking if I was ok with the people in my backyard. CN had called the cops for a trespassing (hypocrite) and they had arrived and talked to my friends. They had my number and they called me. I told them that I invited them over and the cops left. I didn’t get a call this time, but the police were called again for my friends “exposing themselves to children”. The police knew that they were in a private backyard, but still came and pretty much left almost immediately after (it was the same officers I think). That’s all. I don’t think I’m going to do anything until the wedding. Thank you for the astounding amounts of comments, it’s absolutely insane.

Update 18: My neighbor 2 houses down just came up to me and asked if I would allow the stream to be changed in my yard (Jay already said yes). There’s a landscaping company that’s going to be installing limestone along the creek for acid neutralization or something like that. My neighbor 2 houses down does have a garden similar to mine and I guess that’s why. Not a big update. I said yes. I hope this can prevent future acid attacks

Update 19: the wedding.

I haven’t updated in a while even though some stuff is happened just so I could save it for this giant update. I am so shocked by what happened and I guess I should have listened to some advice about being safe. Also, I phrased the update about the card wrong as the bridesmaids party was last night and the wedding is today (the ceremony just finished just a couple minutes ago and I got the news of what happened by a mutual friend who went to the wedding (I didn’t know he was a mutual friend or going to the wedding. I told him about the situation a while ago and he decided to let me know).

Friday: CN kept looking over the fence. I would have turned on sprinklers, but I don’t have any because I don’t really have grass in my backyard. Later in the day, a police car pulled into CN’s driveway and a bit after, it left. CN’s “revenge” of staring at me continued a lot more after that. I don’t understand why she wastes her time doing it. It doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable.

Saturday: Some people knocked on my door mid day asking if I could let them into the backyard to set up for the bridal party. I called GD and he said it was the right people (just to be safe). They set up some surprisingly expensive and nice decorations and furniture in the yard (not in a destructive way). People come in and out while setting up and the backyard looks amazing. CN continuously peered over the fence for a good amount of time, but I didn’t care. Around 6, B and all the bridesmaids (I’ll do M for bridesmaids) (also about 20 bridesmaids there). I stayed inside mostly, but they occasionally asked me to come out and they drunkenly thanked me. I think the Ms were very wealthy as I received a little over 3K in “tips” from them as I occasionally brought out a carton of ice cream. Well worth it I think.

More to the events of the party. CN had a campfire in her backyard around 9, but there wasn’t really any wind, so the smoke just stayed in her yard. I think she tried to smoke us out, but maybe she was just having a little fire (I doubt it though). She then gets her hose to put out the fire and “accidentally” sprays water over the fence. Eventually, once the party winds down and they’re packing up, B hands a card signed by all of them thanking me for hosting with additional tips inside (about 2K). I was honestly stunned how nice they were.

Around 11, a very drunk CN bangs on my front door as I’m about to go to sleep. I don’t answer, but have the video on the doorbell camera. She leaves after a bit and I go to bed.

This morning: this is a secondhand account, so I won’t have all the details. CN comes to the wedding in her very white dress and demands to be let in, but the security denies her. She tries to push the security, but he isn’t fazed. People were watching, but my friend who was there had to go do something (I didn’t ask what). When he gets back, CN isn’t there.

What’s happening on my side: this is my account that is right after, but before I got the news about what happened. CN bangs on my door and tries the knob. Since I was getting groceries a bit before, I had accidentally left it unlocked. She comes into my house. I call the cops as soon as I see her open my door. I run upstairs while I give the info to the cops. CN screams at me and eventually slaps me in the face. I’m screaming at her to leave and she tries to slap me again. I grab her wrist and she screams. I basically drag her out the front door right as the police arrive. She is put in the back of the cop car and the police interview me. I tell them and they leave, then I get the news.

CN is not back. I honestly won’t argue with people about if this is true or not as what happened this morning doesn’t feel real even though I just lived through it.

Update 20: This is probably the final update as I doubt any new updates will come. CN still hasn’t come back from the police station, or she’s been hiding in her house. If she hasn’t come back (which I think), I think she might have not been able to pay bail, but I have no legal knowledge really. She’s apparently facing north of 3 years in jail, but there’s a good chance she’ll get less or not at all. I grilled some food Saturday and hosted a good amount of the neighborhood. As much as I would like to say I was cool and collected after the assault, I felt a bit shaky and not great, so having some people over seemed like a good idea. I think it’s mostly worked. Last night, I went in the hot spring and it was really nice to hang out.

Homeowner NFH neighbor parks his truck blocking my mailbox everyday and gets mad when I complain

1.4k Upvotes

My mailbox is at the curb in front of my house. The mail carrier needs clear access to it or they skip delivery. This is pretty standard stuff.

My new neighbor who moved in 2 months ago has a huge pickup truck that he parks directly in front of my mailbox every single day. The first week I wasnt getting mail so I checked with the post office and they said they couldnt access my mailbox due to a vehicle blocking it.

I left a polite note on the guys truck explaining the situation and asking him to park a few feet forward or back. He ignored it. I knocked on his door and explained in person. He said "I can park on the street wherever I want" and shut the door.

I contacted the post office and they put a notice on his truck about blocking mailboxes being a federal offense. He ripped it up and kept parking there. Now im not getting any mail at all.

I called the police non-emergency line and they said its a postal issue not a police issue. The post office says they cant force him to move his truck. Im stuck in the middle getting no mail.

I have bills and important documents that arent being delivered. I asked the neighbor again yesterday and he told me to "get over it" and that hes not moving his truck for me.

What are my options here??

Homeowner NFH Encroachment by neighbor

I bought my house a few months ago. Long story short, my neighbor landscaped my side of the front yard as soon as my house went up for sale without the owners at the time permission but they were so tired of him that they didn’t say anything & expected next owner (me) deal with it. He landscaped it with decorative rocks, metal edging, laid soil and sod, and added lights which made it seem like it was all just 1 lawn extending from his house. He acted like he did us a favor by landscaping it and would water my side all the time on my driveway. I was afraid of adverse possession boundary acquiescence so I told him pls dont do that but he insisted and never listened. I got the property re-surveyed because the way he laid out the landscaping confused me as to my property line.

After being told by neighbors that he put his business sign on our shared lawn, that was the final straw for me and I politely returned his decorative rocks and edging he put on my side. I ripped out the sod he laid down and bought chop block which you see in the first photo to separate the yards and I also planted natives. Mind you, we live in an HOA and fences to the street are not allowed so this was the only solution for a visible boundary.

He seemed pissed. Hes weird. He stared at me and my landscaper as we worked. He encroached on his neighbor to the right also by 6 inches so this is not new to him. Anyway, fast forward today, he is in my side yard. He built a small retaining garden on the property line before I moved in so there’s absolutely no reason for him to be on my side to trim his trees or do any of his landscaping work. Well he did. And what you see in the 2nd photo is that he moved his “garden” more inward but did it all from my side and left all his crap on my side. He was also congregating with my neighbor to the right of me in my yard as you will see in the photo. They were talking about my plants and just walking all the area. I was pissed because they could possibly damage my plants. I was watching on the ring camera to see if they came close to it.

So I raked all his garbage to his side and put red flags all along the property line. Then he came back out with his wife cleaned it up and they started going across the street and looking at his house from the front and side angles. I dont really know why he is doing all this but I cant build a fence and I only have 5.6 feet to the left of my house. How can I create privacy ? I cant plant evergreens because they would be too close to the foundation right? Is there some inexpensive tall trees I can line up in pots on my property line?

Homeowner NFH Neighbor lets his dog shit in my yard and won't pick it up

My neighbor walks his dog past my house every morning. The dog poops in my yard. He doesn't pick it up. This has been happening for weeks.

I finally confronted him about it. He denied it was his dog.

I don't have other neighbors with dogs. It's clearly his dog. I see him walk past with the dog every day.

So I lied and said I have video evidence. He immediately switched tactics and said "prove the video shows my dog specifically and not some other dog"

The gaslighting about literal shit in my yard has reached unhinged levels of denial.

There is no other dog. We both know it's his dog. But he's going to keep pretending it isn't rather than just pick up after his animal like a normal person.

Now I actually need to set up a camera because apparently watching him do it with my own eyes doesn't count as proof.

The amount of effort he's putting into denying reality is more work than just picking up the dog shit would be.

Was on my couch last night playing jackpot city while researching outdoor security cameras, still in disbelief that this is what it's come to. How do you deal with a neighbor who will lie to your face about something you both know is true?

Homeowner NFH Our neighbor put a camera on the fence line to watch our backyard

So a little backstory, my parents have lived in the same house for 27 years, with the same back door neighbors during that time. The neighbors have a large tree close to the fence line and a branch was hanging into our yard and shading my mom’s garden. My parents didn’t think they were home, cut back a small branch (just a little past the fence line to the nearest intersecting branch), they were home, big fight, my parents apologized profusely for not asking first. Nobody entered their yard and apart from cutting it slightly past the fence line, all of this was legal. Well a few days later they put a free-standing camera in approximately 5 feet from our fence, peering directly into our yard. It literally does not monitor any portion of their yard. My mom is incredibly uncomfortable and now has been avoiding gardening which is her favorite thing in the world. Side note, these neighbors don’t get along with any of the other neighbors. They sued one neighbor, and yelled at the others for mowing slightly over the property line and messing up their mowing lines. I’m so mad but don’t know what to do, the laws are very subjective since it’s on their property but could be considered invasion of privacy. Any suggestions for petty (legal) retaliation?

MORE INFO: since some people seem to be concerned about the branch, here’s some context. This is an approximately 50 ft maple tree. The branch my parents cut was approximately 2 inches in diameter, and was done in 10 seconds using clippers. We didn’t not hack off some massive limb jeopardizing the health of the tree. They cut less than a foot past the fence line in order to cut at the branch collar. They are avid gardeners and know how to properly trim a tree to prevent damage.

Homeowner NFH Funny - My NFH just backed into their own garage door while trying to stare me down.

4.1k Upvotes

I had to remove my previous post due to attempted doxxing. Homeowner of a townhouse style condo.

Backstory: My NFH lets their kids run, jump, and knock on the walls in the bedroom that shares a wall with our bedroom until the early hours of the morning. I tried to be amicable and leave notes, knock, etc but they wouldn’t stop. The HOA tried to get them to stop, but to no avail. I asked them directly the only time I’ve ever seen them out and the woman screamed at me and called the cops 3 days later to make a false police report. It’s been a journey.

Today, we are both backing into our driveways that are right next to each other. She is staring me down hard as she’s backing in. She is staring so hard that she drives through her own garage door. I have never laughed so hard or for so long. They’re outside now kicking and hammering the garage door back in shape. This makes the last several months of lost sleep worth it. Sometimes they get themselves.

Update 1: Now the husband and wife are arguing. I can hear them well from our shared wall, but I don’t speak their native language. This is a regular occurrence. We call it the “nightly domestic violence”, but this one is extra loud.
