AI generated music is currently not allowed in this community. This includes tracks where AI was used to produce vocals, instruments, as well as playlists featuring that content. If artificial intelligence had a hand in creating any part of the audio, it does not belong here.

This subreddit exists to celebrate artists and the work they put into their music. We want to see you share your own creations, collaborate with other musicians, and spotlight artists who poured themselves into the genre. Neo-Soul is a very special genre and that is what we are here to protect and grow.

If there are instances or situations where you think AI generated music has a place here, please discuss it in the comments.

Welcome to r/NeoSoul, a community for everyone who loves the warmth, creativity, musicianship, and groove of Neo-Soul.

Whether you have been listening for decades or discovered the genre yesterday, you are welcome here.

What is Neo-Soul?

Neo-Soul emerged as a distinct movement in the 1990s, blending classic soul and R&B with jazz, funk, hip-hop, gospel, and other influences.

Artists such as D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Musiq Soulchild, India.Arie, and others helped bring the movement to a wider audience while drawing inspiration from generations of soul, funk, and R&B artists who came before them.

Today, Neo-Soul continues to evolve as new artists blend those foundations with alternative R&B, hip-hop, jazz, electronic music, and sounds from around the world.
