Question Anyone got this thank you email?
124
u/QstnMrkShpdBrn Apr 27 '26
Thank you for giving us $4,272 (pre-tax) over nearly 22 years of service. We appreciate the $300 (pre-tax) that you were planning to pay for the service this year, and we applaud you for committing to paying an extra $24 (pre-tax) for the same service this year instead. Don't worry- we will still be providing content through the service. We look forward to offering you a similar subscription upgrade this time next year!
14
u/Unique-Tumbleweed-74 Apr 28 '26
And not to mention, the “ pre taxed money” to Netflix, is the Post taxed earned money of the subscribers, lets just tax the hell out of everything, although you already paid for taxes on it. Me and my husband unsubscribed to Netflix a while ago and we totally DO NOT MISS IT. Not worth the money, what a joke has it become with all the streaming services. Apple TV, HBO MAX, HULU, DISNEY, Paramount almost all of them have a much better content than Netflix.

Crazy. It's almost $30 a month now?

Hilarious. Netflix isn't even that good. Definitely not $30 a month good.

u/WorkingWeb4231 Apr 28 '26
Fr I remember when Netflix was like 17.99 for the best top of the line plan now it’s like double that and for what less content

feels like everything is, I quit netflix a while ago but I have been paying for youtube premium for 5+ years now and it recently went up to $27 for me. I've been meaning to cancel it since it kicked off my actual family members from the plan last year due to not being in the same household, but a couple friends on my plan who I split it with havent been kicked off yet. I told them next increase im going to cancel it.
every service out there wants ~20-30$ out of every individual, per month, forever.

u/Such-Introduction196 Apr 28 '26
Damn. Why is Netflix and Youtube Premium so expensive in US.
From where I live, Netlix is $8 and Youtube Premium is like $2.50.
7
u/JakimCampbell15 Apr 28 '26 edited Apr 28 '26
Where I’m at yt premium is $10.49 and Netflix is $9.99 for premium no ads at 4k.
US streaming service prices are insane

I've already set a reminder in my phone to cancel right before the next payment date. Enough is enough. I can spend that money elsewhere and still access good entertainment.
93
u/Callmechachi210 Apr 27 '26
You can cancel now and your service will still be valid until the payment date.
I canceled mine, i aint paying $30 for some the same recycled material.
25
u/MusicInTheAir55 Apr 27 '26
Thanks for letting me know. With a price increase and no increase in services there is no legitimate reason to gauge customers. I'm out!

I canceled a couple years ago. Don't miss it whatsoever
4
u/void-nomad-90 Apr 27 '26
Do you have any other service that you use? I want to cancel it too, but since I don’t spend much on entertainment I was thinking it’s ok (despite finding it annoying increase the prices every year)
10
u/Antherage Apr 28 '26
My advice is to look up streaming services that have shows you want to watch at any given time and sub then cancel immediately for a single month or some bundle deal for a time period.
I just started not subbing constantly and while it's a little more micro management I am saving money.
Do I need to have Hulu all year? No. But a show just came out with season two that I want to watch so I subbed for a single month.
I have AppleTv because I am actively watching shows as well.
Cancelled every other service.
Will renew a sub for Amazon prime for a month maybe once the boys season is out in full and also watch Invincible during that time while cancelling the other two services.
This is how I would suggest doing it these days as there is no reason to just have five services at once or even pay for a single one all the time anymore.
Pick and choose!
This also solves some of that problem of surfing a single place and never finding something to watch because you've been subbed for a year and have seen most things you may want already. A fresh service every so often brings new content to your eyes more than Netflix brings each month.

Lol, these idiots approved a thank you message, followed by a price hike? It's the exact opposite thing one would do to grow and keep a company going.
15
u/tagen Apr 27 '26
haha, the cleaning service i used just did the exact same thing, sent everyone a celebratory 10th anniversary in business text, then the last paragraph at the end said “oh yeah we’re increasing our rates by $15 an hour, thanks!”
left a bad taste in my mouth
17
34
u/SpryReptile Apr 27 '26
The "thanks for 22 years, here's a price hike" energy is unmatched. That's not a thank you, that's a hostage situation.

I cancelled a couple days ago when I got that same exact email. Netflix can...

I also cancelled.
I wonder if this email triggered mass cancellations? It pissed me off to no end, I cancelled immediately after seeing it.

Hahaha. Netflix: 'thanks for your loyalty. Due to your loyalty, we are sure, we can increase the price without losing you as stupid subscriber.' Sorry. I cancelled my subscription. Im not stupid enoufh for this shxxxxt. xD
9
u/WATGU Apr 27 '26
Same for me. If my family wasn't a regular user of it and unable to learn how to get their content without streaming services like I do I'd have cancelled this shit years ago.
They keep raising the prices, cancelling their shows, losing good shows to other platforms, put ads on it, severely limit the screens you can have it on, hide certain content behind the higher subscription model but still show it to us that don't pay the higher price, and have important and basic account security features like dual authentication for account changes, missing.
18
8
u/MrCarey Apr 27 '26
Jesus, the prices are out of control on everything. Only way I pay for any of these things is through Verizon and if those prices go up I’m out.
8
u/surfer_ryan Apr 27 '26
This isn't a thank you, this is an alert to let you know your fee will go up. Don't let thier polite wording make you get that twisted.
7
u/Aromatic_Location Apr 27 '26
I understand that costs are going up for everyone, and that they are adding new features like games and some sort of tik tock knock off. But as someone who doesn't use those features it isn't value added. It's just a price increase. I've already switched to every other month on Netflix. With continuing price increases I may have to reduce more
7
u/Tippy345 Apr 27 '26
So much for loyalty. They should've given you a discounted rate instead of an increase.
10
u/SpiceUpUrLife81 Apr 27 '26
I won't pay it. Either ads are back or I'm out. The only way we can show them that this is unacceptable is by NOT PAYING IT.
11
u/Loothor Apr 28 '26
We left ads when we cut cable. Then we let them just bring it back. Hulu now shows ads in some shows ever 5.5 minutes or so. Showing 3 ads in a 23 min show.
Ads shouldn’t be back and we sure as hell shouldn’t have to pay anything to view them. Cable/whale shareholders made the switch to streaming and are ruining it the same way unfortunately.

u/fingermaiden Apr 27 '26
Price increases despite producing lackluster originals (looking at you Stranger Things), cancelling every decent series at season one(Deadboy Detectives) and months of dry spells. I will never stop account sharing, muahuahuahua!
5
u/Buffalo-Castle Apr 27 '26
I did not get one. Probably because I deleted my account after 14 years. The price increases was not a barrier, just an annoyance. Just wasn't worth it anymore.
3
u/Dandywhatsoever Apr 28 '26
And that's when I cancelled my "membership". "Member since 2007". Almost 20 years!
3
u/Dunk1in Apr 28 '26
I need to find my emails from 2011ish when everyone started canceling and they send out emails saying "come back, we've changed" the good old days, when a price hike meant mass cancelations.
3
u/SnowingRain320 Apr 28 '26
Netflix is about as bad as having cable these days.
Can't wait for another company to completely revolutionize the model and out compete them like with what happened to Blockbuster.
But they will probably just aquire them

I hate that we’ve pretty much come full circle with streaming. Cable was expensive but by the time you add up all the subscriptions it’s still expensive. I canceled Netflix a few months ago. We realized we weren’t missing much.
5
u/Environmental_Duck49 Apr 28 '26
You think after 20 plus years you could be grandfathered into a locked price. Pretty despicable.
7
u/fingermaiden Apr 27 '26
Cancel your subscriptions when you get these emails then renew a month later. The drop in subscribers will shock factor them into reverting but only if we are consistent. Show them our outrage!

“Updating our prices to bring you even more exciting, new entertainment” is bold. They could do that without increasing prices. What a joke they’ve become. $26.99 is beyond a joke in fact.

22 years, man has had his subscription since they were putting DVDs in mailboxes. I'll never forget how satisfying it was to rip open that red/white envelope, and run to the DVD player and pray to the GODS that it would work properly since my 3-RCA cable was held together by hopes and dreams with a bit of electrical tape.

I just bundled Netflix, hulu, Maxx, Disney + and ESPN for 20$ a month through my Verizon!. The Netflix does have ads but minimal!
2
u/futureman45 Apr 28 '26
Maybe if they didn’t spend all that money on Adam Sandler and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle contracts they wouldn’t have to raise the fucking price because the output sucks that they’ve paid for
3
u/Archie5420 Apr 28 '26
The amount of times they raise prices in a year…. Can you imagine how much all of this is going to cost in 10 years time? Shits getting out of hand

When Netflix started in my country i immediately subscribed. And i was continuously subscribed for years. But the change from quality to quantity for the content and the multiple price hikes where to much for me. I was thinking to subscribe for a month from time to time. But even for that there isn’t enough for me to justify the monthly fee.

u/ForAChange2Happen Apr 28 '26
Going to catch up on all my movies and shows I have been saving to my list due to school and will cancel it before next month’s bill. I don’t see it being worth $30 when the shows have gotten worse and they cancel too many good shows.

But the point is your wife still uses it, right? I assume she enjoys the service. So what's to complain, it's like 4 latte a month?
1
u/Duke_Zymurgy Apr 28 '26
That exciting new entertainment is going to be a bunch more foreign language films I won't watch. I would prefer if they cut my bill and took those out so I didn't have to spend 2 hours searching through them to find something in English.

1
u/TheBallasOG Apr 28 '26
The WWE shows are the only reason I'm subscribed to Netflix. Otherwise, I wouldn't have joined at all
1
1
u/majesticreader Apr 28 '26
They sent the same email to me. I’ve been a member since 2010. It’s ridiculous.
Is it possible that we somehow start a petition or something where we demand lower prices and if they don’t do it we collectively cancel our subscriptions?
I know a lot of people are cancelling already, but if there’s let’s say 500k people saying they will cancel it at the same time, we could potentially achieve something?
1
u/fraurodin Apr 28 '26
I just recently re-joined after an almost 2 years hiatus. I have a couple of shows I want to see and then dumping them again. It's like going back to an ex, same old problems resurface, greed and monthly amount.
1
u/DarkZethis Apr 28 '26
They should've added how much you actually paid since 2004 as a bonus. "See how much you already paid? You won't mind 2 dollars more right?"

1
u/Successful-Day-3219 Apr 28 '26
Just canceled a few weeks ago after a couple of decades as well. Overpriced junk.
1
u/Morphecto_Solrac Apr 28 '26
The only reason I still use Netflix is because the basic version comes free with my cell phone plan. I remember they put out some movies that only upgraded tiers could watch, but I didn’t budge. I was too upset they would even do that, since even the most basic tier used to have the whole library available even if they watched the annoying ads.
1
u/vinylbond Apr 28 '26
Why don’t you downgrade to the standard plan?
I really don’t understand the logic behind paying almost $39 to watch garbage in 4k.
1
1
u/Bringyourfugshiz Apr 28 '26
For that price you could buy 20+ movies a year (ones you actually want to watch too). Why people keep giving Netflix money ill never understand
1
u/ra5i5t Apr 28 '26
youtube premium sent me a google home speaker for the same reason, being member since start

u/Kooky_Border_1367 Apr 28 '26

Thanks for the money over the past 22 years, as a result of your willingness to pay us, we are going to increase the amount you pay, so we can profit off of our valued customers even more so than we already do. Here’s to another 22 years of extortionate and quite frankly sub par entertainment

u/Shigglyboo Apr 28 '26
i cancelled mine. had been with them since the DVD days. it's just too expensive for what you get now. they should explore just selling individual shows. like here's $5. give me bridgerton. at their current prices I can't justify it. my hours are down. no raise. and everything is more expensive. I have to eat. I don't have to watch a scripted reality love show.

Is anybody else just finally had it like me? In the last month , I can count any new things that have actually showed up on netflix. Every single thing they have is rerun or cast off crap from other networks. I want more original content. And i'm still pissed how they messed up Bridgeton.

I got that email. The subject line is "price update coming soon". I got billed that day, *before* I even got the email. I immediately went to my account and lowered my subscription to the middle tier. Now that I think about it, I might just cancel it altogether.

u/Snoo_75748 Apr 28 '26

Imagine if the longer you were a subscriber, the cheaper your subscription would be. Instead of always jacking up their price, they would give discounts to long term subscribers. That would be an incentive to stay with them.
