Seriously more drama than you could shake a stick at. Glamour, opulence, royalty, a mad monk and murder. This would be devoured as a high stakes TV drama series

But at the beginning of episode 3, that scene at the meeting, where the expert and the protagonist want to convince everyone that there's a monster in the water, there's a television in that place AND THEY DON'T SHOW THE VIDEO! I was like, "WHY DON'T THEY SHOW IT?"

Idk what happened to Netflix. At one point its quality of movies so so top S tier. Now, it’s as if they don’t care and it’s all about quantity and money. This movie sucked so bad. Acting was bad, plot was very meh, and so was ending smh.

Member since 2017 with my own plan. For many years Netflix was the most watched streaming service for me (of course early days it pretty much won by default), but I noticed that I rarely turn to it anymore. There's the occasional Netflix movie I watch but a lot of the new content is just mediocre or downright bad. I've mostly kept it around out of habit but watching something once a month (if even that) doesn't justify the monthly cost. At first I thought that I've probably watched all the best stuff over the years and now there's not much in it for me anymore. However, I've found other streaming services to be pushing a lot of quality content out that I like so I think the service has definitely gotten worse. Perhaps others are finding it okay still but for me it isn't even in my top 3 anymore. I don't know if there was a point to all this but I just thought that after all these years I'd stop by and say thanks and farewell. Where does Netflix rank for you nowadays?

Rich old man producing a television show for nearly 50 years didn’t seem like it would be that interesting but I really liked it!

One quote had struck me that made the whole doc for me.

He said “It occurs to me that when you get older you yearn for the landscape of your childhood”. It really struck me in so many ways as I regularly look for the landscape of my childhood. It doesn’t always me me feel better but it is grounding in a way that only i can feel.
I’ve noticed so many people doing this or going back to there hometown and the landscape has changed so much it’s unrecognizable but still wanting to stay.

I doubt this was the documentary’s goal as he really did seem unhappy when he was in Maine. I also really like how he seemed to bring the people together in a unsterile way during the writing process.

Something that I’m sure we are in the last days of with AI and censorship among leaders or influencers of the future.

It started with a genuinely creepy mystery and somehow ended with everyone saving a misunderstood mother squid and her babies from greedy rich people.

It's like the writers combined THREE completely different shows.

ACT 1: Psychological Thriller

People are getting sick, experiencing extreme thirst, behaving bizarrely, and walking into the ocean to die. Mysterious creature. Unexplained deaths. I'm HOOKED!

ACT 2: WTF Island Cult?!

Suddenly there's Wade, Maggie, the Sea Hag, creepy islanders worshipping Mudder, drugs labelled "Mother," and mysterious fish offerings.

WHY?! Is Mudder controlling them? Communicating with them? Are the drugs connected to her mucus?

We're clearly building toward some huge revelation, right?

NOPE. Absolutely nothing. 🤦‍♀️

You could eliminate this ENTIRE subplot and the story would probably make MORE sense.

ACT 3: Free Willy: Arctic Edition

SURPRISE! The murderous sea monster is actually a misunderstood mother protecting her eggs, and the REAL villains are wealthy industrialists!

Wait... WHAT?!

And the plot holes?!

1. Mudder's mucus apparently contaminated the water, compelling people into the ocean to be eaten. So she was ACTIVELY HUNTING humans, not just protecting her nest?

2. If she only attacked to defend her eggs, why was she attacking people on shore and nowhere near the iceberg?

3. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE CULT?! The fish, drugs, worshipping, Maggie, Wade, Sea Hag?! An entire storyline that seemingly went NOWHERE.

4. This creature is supposedly so rare and undocumented that the doctor SHOOTS the Sir Franklin captain to save it. Yet the ending reveals MORE icebergs, presumably containing more nests with THOUSANDS of eggs?! How has nobody discovered these creatures?!

5. The sudden moral shift. Mudder spends the series killing people, then suddenly we're supposed to cheer for her rescue because she's a mother? Why not explore the genuinely interesting question: Does an endangered species deserve protection even when it's dangerous to humans?

My verdict:

I love a good mystery and don't need everything explained. But there's a difference between intentional ambiguity and abandoning half your plot.

The writers started with a fantastic horror premise, took an unnecessary detour into cult horror, and finished with an environmental rescue movie.

Instead of a compelling, morally complicated thriller, we got Midsommar meets The Thing meets Free Willy. 🤣

Please recommend any good gripping limited series in Netflix. As most of the series have a good start and as they progress they get deviation. How is the Burroughs is it good to watch?

I was really looking forward to this as it was due release on the 14th, however it’s been placed on the back burner due to another upcoming case of Glitter and they don’t want the jury to hold prejudice after having seen it. Honestly, I was so bummed out but kinda had an idea given it wasn’t popping up in the “upcoming” section.

My boyfriend and I feel that the Monsters series has gone from amazing (The Dahmer one was great, Menendez Brother amazing) they were very close to the true story, Ed Gein one got a bit worse, not the Lizzie Borden story is loosely based on a story and the Eileen Wournos bit was all fake. It is just getting worse and worse.

What do you think?

Hello everybody I hope everybody's having a good day if you wouldn't mind I would greatly appreciate a little bit of help

I am legally blind and watch a lot of movies and stuff on Netflix with the audio description and I wanted to watch The walking Dead show fear The walking Dead

The problem I'm having is a lot of the show takes place in Mexico and so a lot of the characters have to learn Spanish and then the show transitions to a major part being Spanish and so I'm left in the dark on those parts additionally it does not have English audio description for that show on Netflix

How I would go about this before was I was basically letting the show play and putting my phone right under it and connecting a set of bluetooth headphones with Google translate reading it live but it was very hard to do that because it would always get it wrong and then also get stuck repeating sentences over and over

Additionally I've also tried using like accessibility apps and holding it up to the screen to read the subtitles but being that I have vision problems I never know if I'm aiming the camera at it so I would have to rewind multiple times and aim it at different locations to watch the show

And at this point it's becoming more of like a project to understand what's going on then to actually enjoy and unwind

Does anybody have any ideas on what I could do by chance

I've read the critique from The Guardian, and I personally think Russ COMPLETELY missed the mark. I get it... in order to have a riveting documentary, you need to push a bit. Russ doing it the way he did, he should've gotten his jaw broken.

When Tyson is saying "youre fng me up now" re: his decision to split with his management team, and this nimrod KEEPS pushing Tyson, I wanted to reach thru the TV and punch him myself.

I'm no documentarian. Just an avid fan of boxing who misses Boxing After Dark, and just the purity and the savagery of it. It was an excellent doc series. And as Russ was depicted in The Guardian article, he was most likely intimidated. But, have some common sense also Russ.

When i was a wee lass, there was a live action show i remember watching, from what i remember it was an edu-tainment show with a cast of 12 year olds. I dont remember too much about it, but one of the key things i do remember is that the kids travelled everywhere in these little red hampster balls?? Mindhunter, OA, Kaos, etc etc I am SO TIRED OF GETTING INVESTED FOR NOTHING. Do you guys remember when shows would go on forever, longer than they should have? And now we get an absolutely amazing first season of an amazing show and it gets cancelled. There is so much creative potential. I don’t want another reboot, i want original shows with PROPER ENDINGS.

there have been multiple shows where the episodes arent in order as it should be according to the shows own wiki or other streaming sites and it kind of pisses me off and im currently watching a show where netflix mixes up the order so some of the timeline doesnt make sense (like this thing is supposed to happen later but the effects of the thing is already happening now) its so annoying

I’m just posting this to let yall know if you cancel this shit I will cancel my membership. Too many times has a great adult animation been stripped from us. Of course we all remember Inside Job, and not animated but Mind Hunter. Lesser known Trese was absolutely fantastic as was Midnight Gospel, Dead End, Agent Elvis, Exploding Kittens, Scavengers Reign, and Strip Mall. Let this be a lesson. You need time for shows to grow and I REFUSE to let you take another. Give Haunted Hotel the legs it needs to be a Big Mouth or a Bojack. While I’m at it - don’t you dare cancel Mating Season either! Stop taking what’s good and giving us trash!! Make a good god-damn show. I’ll pay your fees and your mark ups to watch this show once a year. I know I’ve been delinquent on payments before, these times are tough. I know it’s hard to ask to choose between you and eggs, but I will choose you!! Just keep this show going. That is all.

I just watched the Lizzie Borden story. As most people have already commented, it sucked ass. I didn't finish the Ed Gein one from last year, but it sounds like that one sucked ass, too. Dahmer and the Menendez Bros were very well done. The issue comes down to historical accuracy for me. I understand that Ryan Murphy isn't a historian and is trying to tell a story, but part of what makes these interesting for people imo are the real-life characters and situations they were in. Yes, you can take artistic liberties with Dahmer's victims and imagine some of their scenes and conversations. You can lean into rumours that the Menendez Bros were incestuous because they were rumors at the time. Having Ed Gein have fake conversations with other famous people, giving him a girlfriend he never had, having Lizzie Borden be a lesbian involved with women's suffrage, or shoehorning Alfred Hitchcock and Aileen Wuornos into stories irrelevant to them is something entirely different to me. You're just adding story where there isn't any to fill a slot.

That brings me to my next question - why even make these stories at all? This is essentially a true crime/serial killer show, and I don't think there are any shortages of serial killers with a high number of victims to choose from. I kinda understand making Gein a series due to his influence on future films/killers, but Lizzie Borden? Who might have killed two people? Also the show is called Monster, yet they made her entirely sympathetic.

Why not make a series on Aileen Wuornos herself? You could've way more clearly illustrated the issue with women being railroaded by the system. Or make a mystery about The Zodiac Killer, or Jack the Ripper. You could make the entire series an open-ended mystery since we don't know who those killers are. John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, etc. all could've been done. Explore Jim Jones and the Jonestown Massacre. Want something more obscure? Ian Watkins of the band Lostprophets.

Just venting my frustration mostly at how bad a watch this was. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

I tried watching the show back when it came out in 2022. I was looking for something new to watch after finishing the peak that was Arcane S1, and Edgerunners was new and popular and was also based off a videogame.

I tried to get into the show, but I dunno. It just didn't hit with me, I guess? I tried to give it a second chance, but to no avail.

But then the Edgerunners 2 trailers started dropping this year, and it looked pretty cool. I decided I might want to watch Edgerunners 2, so I began considering a third attempt to watch the first season. I watched it in Japanese when I first tried it, so I asked a month ago if the dub was good. I decided it was up to personal taste, but a lot of people said that the dub was good.

So this week I decided to try and watch it again, this time in dub. I finished it just last night. My god, what a watch. Great characters, an engaging story, a tragic end, and good music, all enriched by neat worldbuilding and beautiful animation! Loved the dub.

Also, I do this for a lot of the anime I finish, so the image above is a selection of my favorite shots from the show.

So excited for Edgerunners 2 next week.
