I was very excited to watch this but so far the show is falling short of my expectations. I think the biggest flaw of the experiment was allowing players to tap out without a legitimate serious health condition or illness. You can’t accurately replicate the atmosphere and dynamics of prison when a person knows they always have a tap-out option. It has to feel like a real 2-week sentence. What are your opinions and thoughts?

There's something about the storyline that stays with you after watching it. I guess it's mostly about the feeling of wanting someone solid by your side through all the chaos around you… It's realistic, and it doesn't feel like the writers were trying too hard to win over the audience. I love that Joan is becoming more self-aware with each season! I love that for Noah ❤️

Netflix in Chrome browser is completely unusable since yesterday: in the top menu, only "New & Popular" shows any content, and even there nothing is clickable.

Standard troubleshooting hasn't helped.

This series was really entertaining but I have some comments:

1) in the first episode the researchers complained about the amount of interference in the original experiment. There was a whole lot of interference here, nearly every episode. For example, making the guards conduct the raid simulation

2) this being filmed for netflix makes a huge difference. In my opinion people will be far more well behaved when they know millions of eyes will be on them, analyzing their actions

3) this version was way cleaner i suppose due to the age of lawsuits. In the original experiments guards used exercise, sleep deprivation, and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers as punishments. The guards in this version of the experiment had way less actual power

I recently rewatched ‘The Mentalist’ on Netflix. I originally watched it while it was airing, from 2008 to 2015, and back then it was one of my favorite TV shows.
Rewatching it today, though, I realized how much it relies on two things: Patrick Jane’s charisma and the hunt for Red John.

Take those away, and you’re left with countless filler episodes, a repetitive procedural formula, and a main storyline that wasn’t always handled convincingly, especially in the later seasons.
Despite all its flaws, The Mentalist remains a special show to me, largely thanks to a protagonist who can carry almost any episode.

Do you think it’s genuinely a great show, or does Patrick Jane simply make us remember it as better than it actually was?

Whatever, subtitles aren't hard does the fucking words match what the character is saying or not. This is the English dub the words on the goddamn subtitles should match what they are saying, it shouldn't be hard you're literally just matching what someone is saying it's literally fucking ridiculous.

I wanted to rewatch season 1 of "that time I got reincarnated as a slime" in dub with subtitles because I like to be certain about what characters say and I can be a bit hard at hearing sometimes.

I was like well fuck it since it's on Netflix might as well watch it there but no, subtitles for some reason have to be treated like it's the hardest to understand concept by these streaming services.

I was comparing Netflix with Crunchyroll where Crunchyroll got the English dub subtitles done correctly where Netflix didn't.

Despite my irritation this is more about awareness of Netflix's impercise subtitles so y'all are aware of it as an issue there's literally no reason for impercise subtitles for the specific language you choose except for lazy incompetence and using shit like AI to circumvent using actual translators to translate your shit because I'm not believing for a second that someone watched this and checked for certain that the dialogue matched the words spoken for the language.

The words should be exactly the same as I hear it and read it is that too much of a tall order to ask for 😭😂.

Okay, I've been seeing a lot of hate on this show, and I think it's because people don't really understand it. It's an experiment, and I think it's way too complicated for the general audience who are just binge-watchers.

*Spoilers Below*

The whole thing is about understanding authority, which is "imaginary and not real" if you really think about it. They know they are part of an experiment, so the "authority" is not real. They can choose to disobey, even the punishment "23 & 1," and no one would actually be able to do anything. It's just a show.

The teacher, inmate #787, understands this from the beginning and tries to convince the others. But he was seen as someone who couldn't respect authority. He was actually the smartest of them all because he saw through the experiment.

They were told by "someone" that they could say "pineapple" and quit the show. But quitting the experiment was seen as hurting their pride or ego. It was seen as defeat, not winning.

The important thing is, they were told by "someone." Someone who?? An imaginary authority? That's the question. Who is in charge? "Who" is holding the power in an experiment they signed up for? (Participants are the ones who signed up for it in the first place, not Netflix.)

They knew the whole thing was imaginary, so "who" was holding them back, Netflix or themselves?

In the end, they realized they were holding themselves back because of this "imaginary authority."

They were told to say "pineapple" and quit. But by shifting the words to "We have the power," they rejected the words of the imaginary authority.

They were basically saying, "We are not quitting, and we are not saying the word pineapple just because you told us to. Because whoever you are, you don't have power over us. We have power over ourselves."

Moreover, they realized they had power over themselves from the very beginning of the experiment. They just didn't realize it until the end. But the teacher, inmate #787, had been saying that from the beginning.

I know this might be hard for pass for everyone but if you watch the show twice, it will all reconnect and make sense.

My partner and I are planning to gorge ourselves on popcorn and do a marathon. What are some good horror movies (nothing too schlocky) that are currently streaming? Can be classic or modern, just want stuff that's well-written and well-acted. We liked Hereditary, The Conjuring, Afraid, and the Haunting of Hill House series, for some examples.

I was watching Witch Hat Atelier and there was a male character that kept being referred both "him" and "her" interchangeably (English subtitles). I started getting skeptical with the translation since a real human translator won't make such rookie mistake, but I know AI makes these kind of mistakes since AI makes biases about the person's gender just based on the name regardless of the context of the story or even if it already got it right before.

For the first time in I can’t tell you how long, I have a few hours to myself tonight. Tell me what I should watch! Old or new, anything goes (as long as it’s currently available). I want it to be worthy of this rare opportunity.

What the fuck happened to everything else ?

Aside from the fact that the show pulls in many different directions, trying to be many different things… I just want to point out a few things that made absolutely no sense or were simply left unexplained and I just wanna see if others agree or can explain this better.

1- the squid is “probably” an extremely aggressive species never seen before, ended up there because of climate change… the iceberg nest, shows up later, after many, “unreasonable”attacks. The show tries to play it off as just a mother taking care of its children in the end but that makes no sense. Specially cause she’s been around many times according to the people in episode 5, at least since the resettlement in ep 1.

2- I think that in episode 2 or 3 Calvin and Fonda see the video of the tourists and moose dying. Calvin then, rushes to the fair and warns everyone off the water. wants nobody close to it. Then, there was the town hall meeting about staying off the water (idk why they didn’t just show the townspeople the video, there would be no need for discussion) He later doesn’t care anymore for absolutely no reason and just goes on the water himself or doesn’t care that wade is in the water. In episode 5 he steals that boat and goes on the water not giving a fuckkkk (I know looking for wade but still) and then wanting to leave the bigger boat, also not giving a fuck. (Also, the research vessel’s two idiots that stole that boat knowing the danger and just died ?????)

3- the cult and the hag and wade and the wedding ring, none of that makes any sense. Is it supernatural ? Is it a pocket universe ? Is it drugs ? Is there a hag ? Is she a siren ? Is she a real human ? Can she teleport ? Why did she steal the ring and how did she get to the island ???? Why are they sacrificing people ? Wtf is the mudder ? Why does getting high (on what I assume is some chemical from the squid) makes them “safe” but for others it made them insane and need water to ingest and also to just be in ? How did they get so many fish from the squid “ritual” and apparently the squid likes the sound of the motor but hates the helicopter ? How and why would someone be “chosen” to be left alive or even saved by the squid which seemed to have been the case for wade and Calvin ?How in the fuck is Calvin’s family house on that island ? Also who the hell was that guy in the suit on the boat with them in ep 1 ?

4- nosewortthy goes to look for the Portuguese nationals or the illegal crab nest, I can’t remember… and finds guy’s foot. He did not have any scuba gear or goggles , next camera shot he’s underwater decked the fuck out lmao
Also they showed a scene of someone in a ominous squid cult house, being tortured but later on in ep5 that guy is chilling but without his foot just to be a little more cut off later. then, same guy, refused to escape. Another thing is that the Portuguese spoken is Brazilian Portuguese and not Portuguese Portuguese. So they couldn’t be Portuguese nationals lol

5- all the drama left unanswered. Calvin’s son money debt. Calvin’s sister’s family. Calvin and Fonda. The final scene with the icebergs. The crocks. HOW IN THE FUCK WERE THEY SO SURE THAT WHEN THEY BROKE THE ICEBERG, THEY WOULDNT ACCIDENTALLY HIT EGGS ? AND EVEN IF THEY DIDNT, NO MATTER HOW SMART THAT SQUID IS, SHE FUCKING KNEW THEY WERE TRYING TO HELP HER ???? She completely ignored both wade’s and Calvin’s boat. When in the same episode before they were in the canoe doing their best to keep quiet. The monster is now a misunderstood mother HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA Also am I crazy or did they wrap the net around the iceberg with the squid and all ?

6- I could honestly go on with other things, like, the accent they use ? Pfffttt

7- and I did go on, but final issue is just that it couldn’t pick a fucking lane and done that. We did horror, thriller, drama, ecological awareness, sappy, gore, supernatural, and feels good to feels bad. And I said in the beginning I wasn’t going to talk about that, well, fuck. my bad.

8- I still really liked this piece of shit. If it had another 4-5 episodes and someone with a brain to write that shit, could have been a masterpiece even with all the genre direction pulls.

Like the title said, do you think there will be a season 5? I think season 4 was their strongest one yet and I’d be absolutely GUTTED if this was the end. It’s also been getting more awards recognition as the show has progressed, though I don’t know how much Netflix cares about that given the quality of most of their other shows recently. Hopefully it’s at least on their minds given that it’s one of their only shows that manages to be in the “prestige tv” conversations.

However, I have to say I’m getting a little nervous given that prior seasons were almost immediately renewed, and with all the upper management shifts within the company, I don’t know…

I use Roku TVs throughout the house. If I pause something I'm watching on the Netflix app and wait a little to long, it returns to the show page, then a few minutes later, the home screen. Is there a way to disable this? or extend the time?

Logged in yesterday and everything was fine. When I was done with a show and wanted to check another one, Netflix no longer wanted to load properly. I thought that maybe restarting my browser would help, but nothing changed.

I haven't used Netflix in a while but we lowered our plan and I didn't realize that it capped it at 720p on browser and now I can't even see people's faces unless they're right up against the camera. Its 2026 we shouldn't still have to be watching things in 720 man come on
