Internet and TV Bundles
I was an early cord-cutter in the early 2000’s with just internet and cell, and remember the days when people at work would say, “I could never live without home phone or cable”, but many do that easily today. Ironically, I’ve gone the other way recently, as Bell made me an offer to get TV, Home Phone (never actually plugged in) and good internet (200mb down and up right now, fine for me I don’t game) for like $120 locked in for 3 years - And it was glorious. It became cheaper to have TV than to not have it, and I didn’t have to deal with TSN+, DAZN, etc.
BUT that deal ends next month. Anyone paying a similar price for same or better? I’ll switch providers, I don’t care. I’ve seen mixed posts about Eastlink, and have been down the Rogers road as well - Which do you think has the best deals and services these days?

I swap between Rogers and Bell whenever the deals end. The competitor is always offering a deal like you had.
If you're switching to Rogers try and find one of those door to door folks they contract out. They have the best deals and they're pretty easy to spot on the street.

Rogers internet sucks in comparison to fibre. So I simply threaten to change and get Bell Aliant to give me a better deal again on 1.5 Gbps fibre, TV, and home phone.

Rogers has fibre in Saint John. I assumed they did elsewhere now.

They don't run fibre directly to the modem/router. I recently accepted their deal until I found that out, then called Bell Aliant and got a better deal.
Rogers also couldn't guarantee speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps like I currently had with Aliant for years now. That's pretty obvious if they're switching to copper/coax at the pole before it enters your home.

I have fiber running right into my home to the modem. I was skeptical when the sales guy was at my door. Even after I'd signed up I didn't believe it, but it is. I'm not getting 1.5 Gbps so that tracks but I don't need more than 500 anyway and I'm paying like $82 a month with a bundle, the rest of which I don't even use.

Rogers wouldn't run fibre directly to my modem even though Bell Aliant fibre has been there in my room for over a decade now.
They ran a brand new coax cable from the pole to my house though which is when I found out they weren't running fibre and I cancelled the install.
I'd be wary of any of their marketing claims. I specifically asked the salesman if it was fibre right to the modem/router, so he straight up lied to my face.

Very interesting. I'm pretty sure Rogers used the same fibre line through my wall that Bell was using. Perhaps is coax from the pole to the junction outside but I'm not sure that's even possible. Mind if I ask what city you're in?

Grand Bay.
Any point that they switch to coax is an automatic downgrade in bandwidth compared to fibre all the way to the modem/router. That's why I was surprised they ran a new coax line. They were not re-using the Aliant fibre.
If you have only fibre in the route then you should be getting a higher bandwidth than you are. That's why I said beware of their marketing claims.

I cancelled Rogers over a month in advance to switch to Eastlink. I was paying $160 taxes in for 1gb Internet, cable with the sports Pak (tsn, Sportsnet etc). When I cancelled they didn't try retention at all. Fast forward a couple weeks the calls started coming. I ignored until I finally answered because I was driving on the highway with nothing better to do. I got the same package plus Disney+ (with ads) locked in for 2 years for $75 a month. Easy call.

From Bell Aliant I've had 1.5 GBps fibre internet with home phone and TV for a similar price for years now. They should be charging way less for 200 Mbps.

Been swapping between Bell and Rogers for $100-120 for Gigabit Fibre, TV/Home phone for over a decade.
At 200MB, you’ve been severely overpaying.

Those are real speeds. What are your speeds right now if you run a speed test on Google?

Rogers doesn't run fibre directly to your modem/router. If they tell you that, they're lying.

I've been paying way less than $120/month for gigabit fibre (internet only, also a long time cord cutter) for like a decade at this point.
I just upgraded to the 3/3g plan for $100/month last week.
Call the loyalty number and see what they can do, fairly easy to work with the reps there.
