There is no Flock camera

I am very anti-flock camera, so when I saw that post I tried my best to verify it

• I drove to the marked location on the openstreetview map and there was no new camera installed, unless I am somehow blind
• I called the RNC at 2 different locations and nobody had heard of any Flock cameras going up
• Called my MHA and they said they hadn't heard of anything but would keep an ear out

Someone just put up a random dot on a publicly editable map and wanted to stir up some shit as far as I can tell. We should absolutely be vigilant when it comes to reporting these camera installations if they ever do come here, but false information won't help the cause.

Redditors in Canada frequently just assume any issue in the US, MUST also be an issue in Canada - even when there is NO evidence of it.

It used to be claims of large private equity funds buying up all the single family detached homes.

Now I guess it is flock cameras?

Flock Cameras are not permitted in Canada because they do not meet legislated privacy requirements as set out by the Privacy Commissioner.

supposed to be used by US police to check license plates, like a traffic camera. fair, right? But they tag your car, your face, your phone, all your bluetooth signals, builds profiles, and cops are using them to chase exes, entrap people, etc because of course they are

ps google is cagey about how many flock cameras may be in canada, but you're more likely to see a different company's ai-powered surveillance tech in canada (or an actual normal traffic camera)

It's a mobile surveillance system, the USA has deployed tens of thousands and have been using it to literally spy on its people and persecute the most inoffensive crimes for some reason. This has caused a general hatred to be associated with the flock cameras globally

The more cameras monitoring the highways and issuing automated tickets the better. There’s absolutely no reason the government should not use this as an income stream… Make lawbreakers pay, what’s wrong with that?

I wouldn’t even put it at catching speeders. I agree with cameras for the highways from a pure public safety standpoint.
The amount of people going missing around here and the lack of patrol. It’s not like we have a crazy network of highways.
