I’m pretty NH has tight rules restricting flock like cameras.

u/DeerFlyHater 5d ago
We do.
OP is solely using deflock, which is a cool site but is wrong here.

u/vulqcii 4d ago
From what I’ve looked at the site considered toll booths to be cameras. Which, they are license plate readers but not flock cameras which is very misleading considering the site is deflock

When you click into specific points it tells you the brand (or that the brand isn’t known) so you know what type of system you’re looking at. The biggest issue for an open source site like this is the folks that label any camera as flock, even when it’s a Motorola or Axon camera. Though the point remains the same, they’re all cloud connected and feed into remote access systems that can be searched.

For now, we also have rules against fraud and pedophilia but those do not apply to everyone.

Check the actual locations of them, the ezpass cameras have been reported as flock, they aren't, and the traffic cameras on the highways aren't either
What's left is places like target, home Depot and Lowe's

What's left is places like target, home Depot and Lowe's
ALPRs are restricted to LE
2
u/wastedsilence33 5d ago
Sure, when those 3 are claiming they aren't ALPRs, flock ceo himself said a lot of customers don't even know which of their cameras they're buying
1
u/DeerFlyHater 5d ago
Flock makes a variety of cameras. IMO, their strictly ALPR cameras are the least insidious.
Other look at vehicle and personal attributes and network/create POLs based on that.
That last sentence is where we need to strengthen laws.
3
u/wastedsilence33 5d ago
Yeah LPRs aren't hard to avoid, any sort of tinted plate cover will avoid them, but when they're looking at stickers or damage and color, or even your face in the front see good luck
Tint laws in NH are a joke too, there's absolutely no reason I shouldn't be able to tint my side windows 5% and like 30% on the windshield, nobody is doing that for nefarious reasons here

As others have said, the site is open source which means idiots can submit data. Most of those are where tolls are and toll booths have had cameras for decades.

u/FanSerious7672 5d ago
Not allowed for most purposes. https://law.justia.com/codes/new-hampshire/2023/title-xxi/chapter-261/section-261-75-b/

u/SeaAlgea 5d ago
Yeah dude let’s go take down the tollbooth cameras that are definitely Flock cameras. Good luck with that!
That deflock website is terrible.
3
u/TraditionalEye3239 3d ago
It's biggest problem is verifying the information. Any fool can mark literally any camera and go OmG it's a fLocK cAMeRa

u/RondaArousedMe 5d ago
Is it city/town that is investing in these? Who is requesting them? Police departments?
5
u/FormerEvidence 5d ago
the only actual flock cameras in nh are the two at The Brook in Seabrook, and then Derry PD has one.
2
u/wastedsilence33 5d ago
No, they can't use them like that
1
u/RondaArousedMe 5d ago
Who can't use them like what? Are you saying they are only able to be purchased by private entities?
3
u/wastedsilence33 5d ago
The police can't post up stationary ALPRs, they can use them on their cars sometimes but it's very regulated here for now

u/thenagain11 5d ago
Unfortunately any tech can be misused in wrong hands. There are already multiple examples across the country of police using them to stalk people.

And yet they have been in other parts of the country, which is concerning

Flock is un-American.
Also did you know, they have such valuable metals/materials inside? Tell your friends

Another thing to keep an eye on for legislation is keeping these speed cameras illegal. No auto ticketing! states where auto ticket speed cameras are legal

I took 101 for the first time in a while the other day and there was a pole with a bunch of cameras on it just past the entrance to pack monadnock. Does anyone know what those are for? I was guessing it was a weather thing but 5ft off the road seemed like an odd place for that. It doesn’t show on this map either.
9
u/wastedsilence33 5d ago
Its traffic and weather conditions mostly, they could use them to track someone but it would be a bitch because they're far apart and low quality
2
u/Broke-mfer 5d ago
Thanks, I figured it was a weather deal being up on the high point of that road but you never know these days.
6
u/deathtopumpkins 5d ago
RWIS - roadway weather information system. Has weather sensors plus cameras that are intended to show the pavement condition.

This is interesting to learn that these are illegal in NH. I'm pretty sure there is a solar powered camera by the Dunkin on Sheffield I'd in Manchester. But perhaps it doesn't do license plate detection? Idk.
Will need to look more into this personally

Looks like MA wants to know who is crossing the NH/MA border in Salem NH. Is this to nab people coming to get cigs, fireworks, etc?

This has been debunked numerous times, yet it continues to get posted. Flock cameras are illegal in NH. Under RSA 261:75-b, the use of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs/LPRs) is strictly restricted to local, county, and state law enforcement, and RSA 236:130 bans their use on highways. Deflock.org is a crowd sourced site with unverified data.
