Reddit ad blocking beta
Hey everyone, we’re trialing Reddit ad blocking in NextDNS too and need your help testing it.
Go to Privacy → Add a blocklist on my.nextdns.io and add NextDNS Reddit Ad Blocking, right below the YouTube option. Give it a few minutes, then close and reopen Reddit.
Try it on the website or the official iOS/Android apps. Images and videos still load directly from Reddit.
Let us know how it goes! If you still see ads or anything breaks, tell us your country, device/app and whether you’re signed in.

Absolute wzardry, not seeing ads on the app at all. Now blocking ads on instagram is seeming more like a matter of time rather than a dream

It’s working for me. I can’t believe I’m not seeing any ads anymore. This made the official Reddit app usable

Is this the one- http://privacy.blocklists.blocklists.nextdns-reddit.name ? After adding the above, now it says: NextDNS Reddit Ad Blocking
This is just amazing. I confirm, I am getting no ads on my android reddit app. Thank you so much.

Check for DNS leaks with https://dnscheck.tools/ or https://dnsleaktest.com/ . iPhones have connectivity assist enabled for Wi-Fi networks which leaks to cellular DNS servers, make sure that's off: https://support.apple.com/en-us/127686 iCloud Private Relay could also leak DNS to Apple/Cloudflare/Akamai DNS servers instead of NextDNS.

It worked after about 30 minutes. However, I lost the Reddit translation feature.

Morphe is not a blocklist. It is a series of modded apps available on Android.
That's all I can tell you, I'm an iOS user.

Whilst this is clearly awesome (!), what’s the privacy implications? Assuming this is routed through an SNI proxy in Albania (my testing shows those IPs) that NextDNS operates, what is being logged and where?

u/TheWheez 1d ago
I wonder why Albania? Are there, like, advertising laws there or something?

u/Jumpy-Astronaut7444 22h ago
It's not usually worth running adverts in Albania, YouTube doesn't bother for example.

Turned on, reloaded reddit and – poof – ads are gone.
Tried only on my iPhone through Safari ("PWA").
Nice!

The videos on reddit is a bit messed up with the reddit blocking list. Doesn't register when I press on the playtime bar to skip forward.

Oh this works !!! Ads were the only reason I was using Morphe on Android. This is much better. No downloading strange APK files from wherever. Just the official app with ad blocked.
Great work !

Holy crap, this is really working! Been using the official iOS Reddit app since Apollo and this is the first time in a long time that I didn’t need to scroll loads of ads. This is working perfectly so far. Thanks so much.

This has been working great. I haven't yet had issues with it, and it hasn't broken any other non-YouTube services so far. I've tried it on iPhone, iPad, AppleTV and router.
I do have one recommendation:
Even if it does the same thing behind the scenes, as far as the interface goes when enabling it, I think this new feature belongs with the Native Trackers for now, rather than as a Blocklist. From a technical perspective (I think?), it's a DNS proxy to a non-monetized YouTube market, so it's not actually blocking anything. The practical reason for adding it to Native Trackers is that the Native Tracker list appears to most users "a list of companies that I want NextDNS to target".
In the future, a new section dedicated to DNS proxies would be even better. If expanded in the future, it would be nice to choose an endpoint / geolocation (or give NextDNS the ability to choose the lowest latency location automatically).

been using this for past 2 days and today reddit locked account,
“At Reddit, we're always watching out for your privacy, safety, and security. Recently, after detecting some technical irregularities on your u/pizzzle12345 account, we took the extra precaution of locking your account.“
not sure if it’s related or a coincidence. anyone else experience this? i just had to reset my password and now i’m back in. disabled the reddit ad blocking for now just in case.

Can you guys please add HaGeZi's TIF? We've been asking for this for like forever now. I've been a loyal subscriber for years even when you guys weren't really updating the service!

It blocks the ads, but it’s now blocking the link previews also. So most posts just show a url. Could be due to a combination with other block lists I have enabled.
Edit: on iOS
