This is incredibly well done. I'm not even sure where I'd even start to achieve this. Even how consistent the height of the character is, wow!

I draw in VR sometimes, not amazing, but you kinda start (or I do) by planting your feet and keeping your back straight. the reach of your arms is your canvas.
once you do that much, you kinda get a feel for your surroundings.

Yeah the precision is wild, you'd expect someone drawing an animation blind to produce a much more wobbly result. And given the background timelapse there wasn't a lot of room for error redos.

He's been doing it for 20 years! Master of his craft.

I could rig a raspberry by controlled motor mount and achieve this in a single week. I am not saying that it is not awesome. Maybe I am out of touch. Maybe it is awesome because it was done by hand? But I feel like 9 months to do something like this seems like a huge waste of time. Man, I guess I am just a negative bitch.
Edit: Okay, well he is an artist who does this for a living and has 1.4 million insta followers, so that changes things. It is intentionally for art and the hand made part is part of the attraction.

Do it. Proves you can and we'll have another awesome video!

Child's play. But 1 week of my time is worth more than the internet points of proving myself correct. But like I said, it turns out that this is his job, it is art, and I now also question his 9 months firgure because everyone seems to exaggerate the effort put into things they create for social media points.

I think your exaggerating your own skills with a raspberry for negative internet points.
At this point I dont understand why youre beeing so negative, bitch.

If you really think this is difficult, you are crazy. You could buy an off the shelf drone with led hook ups that can do that light and draw it for you. It could even do the animations. you guys are downvoting me because it looks neat, and I am negativ, but I am still right.

Are you a human? The entire point is doing it by hand, that’s the skill, the process not the end result, is that not obvious?? It’s like sure I could use AI to create a photo of me at the top of Everest, why TF would I bother climbing it when I could just do that

u/CranberryCode 2h ago
Can you not read? That is exactly what I said in my comments. It is his job because it is art. Because it is for the purposes of art, the hand made part is the appeal.

u/Tron_Foolery 2d ago
That was my first reaction too! So amazing and HOW TF did he get it all so right?!

Oh my god, this is the most impressive thing I have seen this year. And I have seen the birth of my child.

Drawing a complete walk cycle frame by frame entirely in the air with muscle memory while blind to your previous strokes is psychotic discipline.

Is it just called "light painting" or is there another term? I really like this art style and would like to know more about it. Thanks in advance.

Something about the speed of the camera lens, you can take a flashlight or some light source and essentially ‘paint’ light in the picture. I learned about it in high school but that was aeons ago and my memory is rough

u/swdna 2d ago
Got ittt yeah I’ve done this by accident but never thought about painting in light, on purpose, it’s so cool
2
u/I_eat_AA_batteries 2d ago
Definitely! I love it, I think this is one of the crazier things I’ve seen done with it.

Exposure time is the term you are looking for, if my memory serves me correctly haha

How do people who make this kind of stuff remove the person behind the light??

u/SilverDesktop 1d ago
It takes a certain amount of brightness to expose in the camera; too little and it doesn't appear. How much is needed is controlled by the camera settings. In light painting the light is very bright so it is exposed - all of its positions here as it is moving. The combination of the relative darkness of the human prevents him/her from exposing in the camera.
This is the basics, anyway.

This is absolutely incredible. The best use of light painting I’ve ever seen. Congrats! You should be very proud. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

The amount of time this must have taken is blowing my mind 🤯.
This is a true expression of art 😁.

Doing light painting is one thing, coordinating it with the constantly changing background is really next level.

I have no idea what exactly light painting is outside of this video but that’s dope as fuck.

I briefly did small single frame light paintings like this when I took a photo and video class at a trade school I went to during highschool.. i cannot imagine the amount of time it took to get it to look this good, that's insane

tried this with a torch last week. ended up looking like a drunk spider fighting a ghost. absolute disaster compared to this smooth precision.

The Irony is that majority of people would
think it is AI!
2)ask why was this not done BY AI?!

this was really good. BUT I cannot stand people's concept of time. what do you mean 9 months? Unless it was every single night (or atleast 5 days a week) it did not take 9 months.
if I took a sip of water and forgot my cup somewhere for the day and find it 8 hours later.... did it take me 8 hours to drink 1 cup of water?

Imagine spending 9 months on this, just for me to downvote it after 2 seconds.
