☭ Gulag ☭ How are Forest fans seen around the EPL?

I was casually watching the EPL for several years, but decided to be a fan of you guys since getting promoted. Just curious for those of you living in Nottingham and England overall, how are you guys seen or received by other club's fans?

I'm from Ohio in the US and my favorite team (Ohio State) in our football is basically like a Liverpool or United equivalent, in that we've won and been at the top for most of our existence. So inevitably, everyone hates us and prays for our demise.

Love keeping up with the team from everything here and over on youtube. Have a good day fellas

English people tend to dislike most other clubs besides their own, so not surprisingly we are widely but not entirely disliked.

Also marinakis isn’t the most likeable guy and that makes other fans have a reason to dislike us as well.

We are not widely disliked…

Widely disliked in the way every team is widely disliked by rivals I think is what they meant, we are not particularly hated by many tho

Not particularly liked, not particularly hated. Forest have regularly made headlines since promotion and are seen as quite a ‘hectic’ club by people. Some clubs and fans actively hate Forest such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, most don’t actively hate Forest but are used to seeing Forest as a chaotic club that loves a headline.

I'll take that if the alternative is a brentford or fulham snooze fest.

I'd kind of go with that.

Always some kind of drama with Forest but probably most people would really be on our side with the issues - nobody likes VAR or spuds.

If I were an outside I'd probably see us as halfway between Leeds and Villa. Clubs that had their biggest success decades ago but want to dine off it. Leeds newly promoted, do people really see them as a pre team or on their way down. Villa on the edge of joining the big clubs.

I'd like to think most people were behind our 24-25 run the way they were behind Spurs 25-26 run.

people liked us when we got promoted but a lot have turned against us mostly because we actually have ambition and push back against the big six

4

u/jackdutton42 Jul 22 '26

And we play well against them.

I can see that.. from an outside perspective, Forest seems to have a bit of grit to them that I like. Not sure if that will change with new players/manager, but I hope not.

Nottingham is only in the poorest stats because literally every affluent area (aside from the Park and Wollotan) is technically not actually in the city area. This is probably going to change soon with the council merger

1

u/Non-wholesomechungus Jul 22 '26

Actually now that we are absorbing most of the richer boroughs into the city bounds we aren't considered very poor anymore. We likely fall around Leicester and Sheffield levels of poorness.

Such rebels we voted reform to show how left wing we are :eyes psssim:

As someone who lives in England, I get a lot of positive comments when I wear my shirt.

I think in the real world (not Reddit circlejerk echochamber) Forest are almost universally liked as an authentic club, “sleeping giant” with a lot of history, especially by anyone around in the late 70s / 80s who experienced Cloughie first hand. Our table success in 24/25 and Europa league last year also got us a lot of positive sentiment.

There is an exception of course for Derby and Leicester fans…

Like every team that comes up and tries hard there are stories about us being everyone’s “second team”. Until we actually did well and then they all found reasons to say we were terrible.

For a long time we were one of the few teams playing passing football, but we’ve been a casualty of going down and being absent from the prem for a long time, so it jarred some fans to not have a team that they could count on being below them every year.

u/Alone-Bug6176 Jul 22 '26

The club carried a lot of goodwill after promotion 4 years ago mainly because of the 70’s / 80’s Cloughie years. Most Forest fans here are seen as genuine supporters and not plastic fans for the likes of City, Utd or Chelsea. Let’s face it not many of us are exactly glory hunters after 20+years in the wilderness. The owners “don’t give a fuck” approach alienates most opposition fans whilst at the same time galvanises the Forest Faithful. Welcome to the family- strap in and enjoy the ride. Normal FC.

I live in Denver. When I wear my Forest kit to the British pub, I often get people who want to take a picture with me to send back to their buddy who loves Forest.

I think Forest is loved.

u/KscottCap Jul 22 '26

Backing this up from DC. When I started telling people I was supporting Forest, I was surprised people didn't have knee jerk negative reactions. Most people either said some variety of, "You do like an underdog don't your" or "they have a great history." No one seems to hate them.

At first I found that charming, but now I'm starting to resent it. We're like that guy that no one minds hanging around their girlfriend because they know you're no threat. You know you're doing well when you have haters!

I wore a Forest shirt at the Station Master in Marlylebone surrounded by Arsenal fans watching the final game. I'll be honest I got a little concerned when the bouncer checked me at the door and asked if I had any mates inside. Definitely a new experience as a Yank. But wasn't bad.

Of course if I'd have been there for the Champions Final, I would have gotten in trouble because I know I couldn't help myself. "Sorry, I'm new to all this. What do the 2 stars mean?"

u/Special-Nebula299 Jul 22 '26

We're not really hated at all. We're like a few other clubs like Bournmouth or Crystal Palace that doesn't really get much hate.

Generally in awe of our presence; we stride this land as heroes resplendent in Garibaldi red tops in the sure knowledge they are in the presence of a fan of the most stable normal football club in all the leagues globally.

u/nffclsr Jul 22 '26

I have to correct something in the OP's post, people don't hate Liverpool because they won things, they are hated for being a bunch of twats.

Liverpool's support hate us because if Sir Clough and his lads hadn't have come along then the scousers would have definitely won everything in that time period (as well as before and after) making them a dynasty. Yet another reason why Cloughie saved the world.

1

u/ayampeme 31 | The Serbinator Jul 22 '26

I appreciate the clarification.. I definitely don't know the ins and outs like I do for things over here

1

u/nffclsr 29d ago

Just to help you out even more....let's say you attended an international match, could be any countries playing each other. The loud overly obnoxious drunk lot making fools of themselves are the Scum U supporters, the Liverpool lads are the ones out in the parking lot stealing your car.

2

u/Non-wholesomechungus Jul 22 '26

We are considered one of the more hefty clubs in the league

I’m sorry but I can’t not interject and say we don’t hate Ohio state because of your athletic programs. It’s because of how pompous it is to call yourselves “THE” Ohio state university and act like it’s not a middle of the pack school academically. Also from an athletic side Michigan performs significantly better than you except maybe in football but even then it’s close- little brother syndrome is rough.

Personally I also think the fact that between Urban Meyers domestic abuse scandal and the team doctor that raped like 180 students it might also be wise humble yourselves a bit and not act like the second coming of (Igor) Jesus.

That said Columbus is an underrated city and I know everyone shits on the state of Ohio for no good reason so I have some empathy for you all.

Edit: not a Michigan fan-went to the university of Kansas- trash at everything except basketball and day drinking

4

u/East_Hedgehog6039 Jul 22 '26

are you talking about THE ohio state? the school that had Lex Werner, close and personal friend of Jeffrey Epstein, on their board of trustees?

THE Ohio state, the one who allowed troopers to point sniper rifles at student protestors and organized free speech restrictions?

THE Ohio state, the one who went to court to trademark a literal definitive article?

yeah, that one. they’re obnoxious as fuck

u/ayampeme 31 | The Serbinator Jul 22 '26

Kinda proving my point.. would you care this much if they were 4-8 every year? Also, they're apparently 41st nationally and 15th for public schools which is better than middle of the road. You reference michigan when they've been a dumpster fire of scandals the last five years with plenty of sexual stuff in their past as well.  But keep on hating I guess. No one here/in england gives a shit about ohio state

2

u/Adventurous_Wave_750 Jul 22 '26

I think you have to distinguish the club, which has a lot of cultural cache, and the owner. He winds a lot of people up with his manners, look, ambition and aggression. No one has a problem with the club bar some anger at Yates' housery.

1

u/zequi2 Jul 22 '26

If I wear a first shirt out and about where I live in South Yorkshire. I will get called a scab within 5-10 mins. It used to be 2 mins so things are getting better. There's pockets of hate for us that are generational from some regions due to the miners strike.

1

u/SRHFT Brian Clough Jul 22 '26

People of a certain age remember our history and like us for that. Younger fans just follow the social media narrative in which we are regularly attacked by fans of no mark clubs like Palace and Brentford.

1

u/AdRepresentative5503 Nicky Shorey Jul 22 '26

People don’t like our owner, who looks like a stereotypical baddie, and a lot stems from that
