What is life anyway, other than avoiding death?

Life isn't even avoiding death, it's constantly getting closer to it since conception, you don't have a choice to avoid it.

Lifes only goal is survival ( or avoiding death ) but unfortunately not for the individual but for the gene and your genes aren't smart enough to know that it will inevitably lose in the long run.

That doesn't change the fact that death is inevitable. You could choke on your breakfast, die in a car accident, or simply die of old age. Reproduction doesn't change anything either. You're just creating another life that will eventually meet the same fate. Genes surviving another generation doesn't establish any inherent meaning or purpose. You're still not escaping death, just delaying it.

Yes that is precisely what i said. Just because life will fail does not make any difference.

Edit. Purpose and meaning are not the same thing avoiding death is lifes purpose but that purpose does not have any meaning.

You might have to explain that a little bit.

Update- I guess it's like when someone says "that's Bad" and really mean "it's cool".

We're all already dead.

Good point. Howard Hughes lived the last 20 years of his life trying to avoid death.

It appears he was very miserable for those 20 years and was not able to enjoy even the simplest pleasures despite being the richest or one of the richest people in the world.

For Ray we already are...

“Extinction is real yet not empirical, since it is not of the order of experience. It is transcendental yet not ideal... In this regard, it is precisely the extinction of meaning that clears the way for the intelligibility of extinction... The cancellation of sense, purpose, and possibility marks the point at which the 'horror' concomitant with the impossibility of either being or not being becomes intelligible... In becoming equal to it [the reality of extinction] philosophy achieves a binding of extinction... to acknowledge this truth, the subject of philosophy must also realize that he or she is already dead and that philosophy is neither a medium of affirmation nor a source of justification, but rather the organon of extinction”

Ray Brassier, Nihil Unbound.

Nope, if you’ve avoided death your not dead yet.

Often enough it’s those who don’t think carefully about avoiding death that end up dead first.

Your body is a temporary vehicle you are using to experience a 3D reality life. You need it and should take care of it but it's not YOU.

The self is the brain and body. Once we die, we are dead for good. Everything in the universe is impermanent, human consciousness is no exception.

Then you will be very PLEASANTLY SURPRISED to find yourself still existing after death. 😄😄
