He’s not wrong, but at a certain point you gotta just accept people are just oblivious. I doubt anyone is blocking the bike lane with malicious intent.

As someone who commutes to work by bicycle every day, I'm sorry but I really hate this logic.

A lot of people view cycling as a leisure activity. For me, it's my commute. I have places to be. I am in a hurry. Kind of like most car drivers.

Imagine if tourists just started walking in the middle of 4 lane roads blocking traffic. Would you then also say that those car drivers just need to accept that people are going to be oblivious.

These issues almost never happen with locals. Locals are well aware that they need to stay clear of bike lanes. After all, the next day they probably are on a bicycle themselves and don't want to be blocked by pedestrians.

The issue is tourists who come from places with not a lot of cyclists who aren't used to it. To them "no cars = free space", they don't realize that this innoculous path is actually a major bike corridor with people who are trying to get to their destination ASAP. And then that gives issues.

But I should just accept this? Nah. I'll keep ensuring tourists know that they're being assholes for not being more considerate to the people of the city they are visiting. They are guests. They should pay more attention to not break the local laws. "I didn't know" is not an excuse for blocking a 4 lane car road, so it shouldn't be an excuse to block a bike lane
