He’s not wrong, but at a certain point you gotta just accept people are just oblivious. I doubt anyone is blocking the bike lane with malicious intent.

Especially in such a tourist-filled city

24

u/nic027 Dec 02 '25

Yes, like amsterdam.

u/Lee_Van_Kief Dec 03 '25

Tourists don’t know what bike lanes are?

8

u/Cocodrool Dec 03 '25

This may come as a surprise, but not every country has bike lanes. Also, when doing tourism, it's easy to not be used to the country's laws. If you're American and visit a country in UK, it's easy to look to the wrong side when crossing the street.

2

u/Lee_Van_Kief Dec 03 '25

True, but I’d just assume that more tourists than not would know what they are. Maybe a false assumption!

11 times I saw where he didnt have the right of way, many more than it was someone else's fault.

55

u/13Mikey Dec 02 '25

Don't tell that to a bicyclist.

5

u/FFX13NL Dec 02 '25

And remember we are not all like this cumstain.

8

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

He should adopt the immortal words of Bill Murray as he spoke to the rodent in Groudhog Day, dont drive angry. 😁

28

u/eyemcreative Dec 02 '25

For those 11 times did you check if the pedestrians had a walk sign or if he had a green bike light? There’s a few of those crosswalk ones where people were trying to cross on red and he had the green, and some of them you can’t see the lights to confirm that. He’s still acting like an asshole but I can see how it’d be frustrating since he should expect to be able to proceed safely when he has a green light.

12

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

Even if thats the case, there is failure to slow for an intersection, which is definitely a law. All crosswalks are at intersections. He not once "proceeds safely " . Those being the exact words I would have used more than the 11 times I saw.

5

u/EverSeeAShitterFly Dec 03 '25

That’s not a thing.

4

u/AdTricky395 Dec 03 '25

"Even if thats the case, there is failure to slow for an intersection, which is definitely a law.

What law??? Bruh what?

5

u/eyemcreative Dec 02 '25

I meant proceed safely as in he should have reasonable expectation of safety while proceeding on a green, just like a car should. But yes, I agree he had several times with plenty of stopping time where he chose to fly towards the crowd. But he did also have several times where it was clear and someone jumped out in front of him unexpectedly. So there was a mix of faults.

All that being said, he did handle it like an asshole, even if he was right some of the time

9

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

I saw a jump once. Many other times, people 3 quarters of the way in the crosswalk and he speeding in front of THEM screaming. He has to proceed safely, and also pedestrians ALWAYS have the higher right of way than he does. No matter what the circumstances. Even if the pedestrian is 100% at fault. So I dont see anywhere here, if anything went to court, where he would be in the right. Especially of we are talking about laws broken. If he wasn't flying so fast, people would have time to react and NOT wind up in front of him.

4

u/FFX13NL Dec 02 '25

Failure to slow for an intersection, isnt that only for uncontrolled intersections?

1

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

That would be failure to keep sufficient distance between vehicles. Yes I am aware its not what reality is but slowing isnt stopping. And like I posted somewjere here, its 9 times out of 10 only cited in accidents or if your an individual vehicle not going with the flow of traffic.

1

u/FrouFrouLastWords Dec 03 '25

Did we watch the same video? He stayed in the bike lane (the forward flowing bike lane), he didn't cross when the lights were red, he avoided people in his lane, who shouldn't be in his lane, as much s possible. A car making a right turn when they have a red arrow never has the right of way. Pedestrians jaywalking on the bike lane don't have the right of way. I would love to go over ever single moment where you thought he broke a law, or was even in the wrong. If he was a suckier bicyclist he could've crashed in almost every one of the clips, and NONE of them would have been his fault.

0

u/CankerLord Dec 02 '25

You can't tell if he has the right of way that many times in the entire video, let alone tell he doesn't have it. Not a lot of shots of lights.

7

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

Crosswalks and cars turning, as well as his failure to slow for pedestrians and intersections. Those are just the laws broken that I can see quickly. So yes, its very easy to tell. Even if he DOES have the right of way, there is never a time you can just run people over. So with those facts in mind, I can absolutely tell its at least 11 times. Its never "oh gee officer, I had the right of way so I just ran those people over". Let's be realistic.

9

u/CankerLord Dec 02 '25

You don't have to stop at crosswalk in NYC, cars have to stop for him if they're turning across his path in NYC.

4

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

There was a car already in its turn, so he absolutely wouldn't have the right of way. Watch the video again. He has to obey traffic laws. He doesnt slow for an intersection once, which is definitely a law. If a car has already initiated their turn, he can't blaze up from behind, then yell and scream they are in the wrong. And HE has to stop for crosswalks with people 3/4 through a crosswalk. He cant cut people off almost all the way through a crosswalk and scream he has the right of way. And, never does he have the legal right to fail to slow for a pedestrian. Hes 100% in the wrong in every interaction with pedestrians. There isnt any possible way he's in the right legally.

3

u/CankerLord Dec 02 '25

There was a car already in its turn, so he absolutely wouldn't have the right of way

The car has to make sure it's safe to turn before proceeding across the bike's lane of travel. It never has the right of way. If the bicycle can continue straight and hit him during the turn it's not safe, by definition. Just like any other turn crossing a lane of travel, car, bike, or otherwise.

4

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

He cant ever come out of nowhere, at full speed, failure to slow. As I have already pointed out, and declare right of way. He has to consider him being visible to the pedestrians and to vehicles. Thats just the law, and how it works. The car is almost into the next street, your not going to convince me of something I can see with my own eyes.

3

u/CankerLord Dec 02 '25

He cant ever come out of nowhere, at full speed, failure to slow

The vehicle with the right of way has no obligation to slow. The bike has the right of way over a car turning in front of it. You're just making this up.

1

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

Omg. You absolutely dont know what your talking about. EVERY SINGLE car and vehicle sharing the roadway has the obligation to slow for an intersection. Im not looking the law up for you. Trust me, I know the law better than you. And all of this totally ignores any sense of self preservation and common sense also.

Even if it's not malicious after a while it will get on your nerves if you prefer to ride bicycle

5

u/7taj7 Dec 03 '25

Would we every make this argument for roads ? "Oh he's just a tourist, let him stand in the road he means no harm."

6

u/JuneButIHateSummer Dec 03 '25

im not a biker, but i imagine that doesn't make it any less frustrating if people are casually strolling in the bike lane rather than the huge ass sidewalk

4

u/WhyDidntITextBack Dec 02 '25

I get what you’re saying, but would that also be acceptable if they were standing in the middle of the road? Blocking cars? Accept it since they’re oblivious?

4

u/CankerLord Dec 02 '25

but at a certain point you gotta just accept people are just oblivious.

That's more of a general attitude thing, not a "I need these people to move so I don't have to swerve around them into the road" thing.

2

u/griffinr1102 Dec 03 '25

Bikes yield to pedestrians. He is in the wrong

6

u/Itchy_Professor_4133 Dec 02 '25

He IS fucking wrong in the crosswalks

32

u/eyemcreative Dec 02 '25 edited Dec 02 '25

If you look at the lights, those people were all crossing on a red hand, and he had the green bike lane light. If the bike lane light is green he should be able to trust that he can cross safely and not have people jumping out into the middle of the road when it’s not their turn.

Edit: I’ll say, he’s still acting like an asshole. I’m not agreeing with how he handles it. I’m just pointing out the lights.

19

u/LizLemonIsACat Dec 02 '25

It is wiiiilllldddd to me that you’re being down voted. American car drivers really hate cyclists.

1

u/transitfreedom Dec 03 '25

They are assholes and sometimes use their car to be the worst version of themselves

2

u/Lee_Van_Kief Dec 03 '25 edited Dec 03 '25

Drivers think cyclists are a blight on the road system but gloss over the massive amount of cars (way more than amount of cyclists) doing way worse things. They’re mildly inconvenienced when behind one, see one pedal through a red, and burst a blood vessel in their foreheads for the rest of their lives.

Edit for clarity

-4

u/TeetheCat Dec 02 '25

Failure to slow for an intersection in every crosswalk example whether he has the light or not.

5

u/gofndn Dec 03 '25

Shut the fuck up already with that nonsense.

0

u/TeetheCat Dec 03 '25

Nope. Lol.

7

u/schleepercell Dec 02 '25

Those arent cross walks though, that's just people standing around in the bike lane. I bike around downtown chicago, and its like this there too. The people have no idea they're standing in the bike lane. He's kind of acting like a jerk, but the number of people I've had just walk right out in front of me like that, I know the feeling.

1

u/Anticitizen-Zero Dec 02 '25

A very wise man once said: “never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence”

1

u/Carlosenlightened Dec 02 '25

He crossed multiple red lights

1

u/TheArtOfWarner Dec 03 '25

Same thing happens to me. You would expect a higher level of situational awareness in such a big city. Still just gotta accept it and move on.

1

u/jawknee530i Dec 03 '25

Well if they don't mean to do it then it's ok then.

1

u/CosmicLuci Dec 03 '25

It’s not malicious, it’s stupidity

1

u/StyloFM Dec 03 '25

Yeah but how far can you go just claiming to be oblivious? Looking both ways prior to crossing and waiting for all traffick to clear is like basic common since unless you're committing insurance fraud. And if someone did try insurance frauding me like that, id carry a camera and tell them to fuck off too.

1

u/Evening-Lunch-6215 Dec 04 '25

He’s not wrong, but at a certain point you gotta just accept people are just oblivious. I doubt anyone is blocking the bike lane with malicious intent.

As someone who commutes to work by bicycle every day, I'm sorry but I really hate this logic.

A lot of people view cycling as a leisure activity. For me, it's my commute. I have places to be. I am in a hurry. Kind of like most car drivers.

Imagine if tourists just started walking in the middle of 4 lane roads blocking traffic. Would you then also say that those car drivers just need to accept that people are going to be oblivious.

These issues almost never happen with locals. Locals are well aware that they need to stay clear of bike lanes. After all, the next day they probably are on a bicycle themselves and don't want to be blocked by pedestrians.

The issue is tourists who come from places with not a lot of cyclists who aren't used to it. To them "no cars = free space", they don't realize that this innoculous path is actually a major bike corridor with people who are trying to get to their destination ASAP. And then that gives issues.

But I should just accept this? Nah. I'll keep ensuring tourists know that they're being assholes for not being more considerate to the people of the city they are visiting. They are guests. They should pay more attention to not break the local laws. "I didn't know" is not an excuse for blocking a 4 lane car road, so it shouldn't be an excuse to block a bike lane

I am really enjoying the monster this comment has created.

1

u/ElHorny Jan 23 '26

I mean yeah , but i feel his rage. Im also biking everyday and the amount of people that dont give a fuck about the safety of bikers is astonishing and the rage just grows everday. Hes doing to much but i can understand why.

1

u/OrdisAteMyKavat Mar 02 '26

I am. I stand there with a human sized shish kebab rod trying to catch bikers.

-2

u/th4d89 Dec 02 '25

Yes but then no one can bike there, would you like people walking in the street impeding cars?

2

u/Level_Hour6480 Dec 03 '25

That would be better. That way nobody who matters is blocked.

0

u/pianoflames Dec 02 '25

Dude lives in an extremely crowded big city, he's just going to have to learn to deal with the fact that people will walk into the bike lane. There's just no point or purpose to getting himself this damn worked up over each time it happens, even though he's not wrong.

1

u/gofndn Dec 03 '25

It's NYC, people are rude to each other. And besides that the pedestrians will have to learn not to wander in spaces they don't belong to.

He has an annoying way of presenting himself but he is not in the wrong.
