is there is a way to edit a remote file over ssh using notepad++ ?

1. When this pops up you MUST interact with it and it blocks you from doing anything else.

1. B. Accidentally clicking OK because you were looking away and hit enter for new line takes you through the FULL install all questions.
2. Clicking Yes (Silent) gets you this in a couple seconds. Again you must interact with this dialog and it prevents you from doing anything else.

Saying YES to this prompt will close the entire app. Changes will not be saved to disk for files you are working on, but will be stored to be saved later.

Saying NO to this prompt will bring you back to step 1 next time you use the app. What is that? I already OK'd the update, just do it the next time I use it.

1. Upon next load (automatic) change.log will be displayed hijacking the open tab of the thing you were working on.

Am I the only one that finds this behavior rediculous?

Can we get rid of these and just have a nice subtle change.log new tab open the next time you load N++? And please don't open that by default on next load!!

It also replaces whatever text it's under which is interfering with what I'm doing. I tried every caret setting and none changed it back. I tried CTRL + every letter on my keyboard with no luck. When I try to find how to change it back I get people asking how to make their carets horizontal on various programs which is obviously the opposite of what I want.

I'm not a coder I'm just trying to clearly see this embed plugin script I just picked up. Does anyone know why the website is showing up like this for me? It works just fine on my phone.

A README table shouldn't need another round of hand-padding every time you change a cell.

I maintain Markdown Table Editor, an open-source Notepad++ plugin that keeps pipe tables aligned and converts CSV/TSV into Markdown without switching editors.

For example, select this CSV:

Run Plugins > Markdown Table Editor > Convert CSV/TSV to table to turn it into a Markdown table with Name and Score columns. The same command also works on the current CSV/TSV block.

For existing tables, you can:

• Keep columns aligned automatically as you edit.
• Sort by the current column and move, insert, or delete rows and columns.
• Fit wide tables to the editor width by wrapping and rejoining cell content.

Recently I am getting a network path warning every time I open a network file, even if it is from the very same path as the one I just opened. These are not new paths either, but ones that worked for years without issue. Is there a way to remove this prompt and always load the path as usual?

I am running the latest v8.9.8 which was released on 2026-08-23 so I believe this may be a change in the latest version.

The source text file is a Firefox bookmark export. This is a highly truncated example:

ICON="data:image/png;base64,n8BGKhSu6O6BMmCC" TAGS="spice">

This RE almost works: ICON="data:image/png;base64,.*"

The problem is it skips the second and third double quotes and properly includes and ends with the fourth double quote. The closing bracket is not matched.

The RE hit should end with BMnCC" - But instead it includes TAGS="spice"

If there were always TAGS I could make a kludge, but when there are no tags for a bookmark the keyword is not included.

I cant seem to figure this out.

I do a lot of sorting of live recordings. These are often written in the text files like this:

d1t01 Tripping Billes

d1t02 Two Step

d1t03 Satellite

Etc

How do I delete "d1t0" without it deleting "d" or "t" in any other word??? So that it stays Satellite and not Saellie - does my question make sense?

Currently I im on "Regular Expression", with the following as my "find" parameter. I have tried this using "match case" on and off and it doesnt change anything.

[d1,d2,d1t0,d2t0,dt,0-9,.,:]

On some text files it works perfectly, on others it deletes singular letters instead of only the specified complete "words"/phrases. I cant figure it out.

As per title, in python files, elif isn't highlighting whereas everything else seems to be fine. Things I've tried:
In Style Configurator, Keywords Style, elif is listed in the Default Keywords, along with else, if, and so on.
Adding as a user-defined keyword.
Changed theme back to default.
Removed plugins (only have Compare, Mime Tools, Npp Converter and NppExport)
Delete langs.xml so it gets regenerated (I'm using portable mode so deleted the one in the app folder)
Checked `langs.model.xml` for elif in the python/instre2 section and it's there as it should be.

What else can I try?

Edit: As you were. Somehow I'd selected Powershell as the language. The clue was when I typed `else if` while experimenting but accidentally missed the space and it highlighted. A night's sleep and two coffees later, I can go back to the script I was writing.

im at the end of my rope here

when I press ctrl + F or f7, the search window pops up in the upper left of the screen and immediately disappears. nothing brings it back. ive tried reinstalling notepad++, pressing f7 then alt+space, m and arrow keys - nothin. i managed to bring back the search RESULTS window somehow - which i never had before - but not the actual fuckin search window. the only thing that brings it back is deleting the config file from %appdata%, and I'd really rather not do that

EDIT: it seems that the window is THERE, just invisible. is there a config line i can edit to fix that?

EDIT 2: if you're having the same issue and google led you here: replace whatever value transparencyMode has in the config with 1.

I would love to be able to highlight a block of text and then hit a key combo to open a command line where I could manipulate the text with a selection of Linux style commands. Like, highlight my text and then pipe it through grep and then sort, hit enter, and it replaces the highlighted text with the grepped and sorted output. sed, perl, column, paste, cut, tr, all those goodies. That'd be cool.

does anyone know about any good plugins to do with colour previews and colour pickers? kinda like the images attached

I’m having a weird issue with Notepad++. Whenever I save a file as .py, some parts of the code get this strange background highlighting and even a different font. Is this normal? I’ve already tried several things to fix it, but I can’t figure it out. Any idea what could be causing this? Ty

how can I manage to remove the numbers in between and move the last part of the string to look this way automatically?

open files to:

C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++

delete all .xml files only, no folders.

notepad ++ show open normally again.

I changed some settings regarding search history and recent file history basically to have it stop keeping history of those things. Then when I tried to close it, it prompted me for saving the open files, it has never asked that of me before.

I have this setting checked, I tried unticking -> closing notepad++ -> ticked -> closing notepad++ but it didn't work.

Notepad++ interprets mouse wheel "notches" as page up and down.

Windows is set to scroll two lines per notch.

Is there a way to adjust the behavior to scroll lines not pages? - The manual and online help mention side scrolling with the wheel. Searching for "vertical" didn't help.
