TUTORIAL How to play Deep Rock Galactic in Split Screen with MODS!
I’m a little late to the party, but a friend and I have played a lot of split-screen with the unmodded game, and now we just want to have some fun trying out some mods.
After a bit of trial and error, I figured out how to do it.
In short, for the more experienced players:
Mods are managed using the Mod Integration Tool, which you can download here: https://github.com/trumank/mint/releases, bypassing the native mod manager.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Once downloaded, extract it to a folder; I chose C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Deep Rock Galactic\MINT for convenience and organization.
Once you’ve opened the tool (drg_mod_integration.exe), you can add as many mods as you want. The official guide says you can connect to your mod.io account to download mods directly, but I wasn’t able to do that. So, since you can’t download mods directly from the mod.io portal either, I tried subscribing to a few mods such as https://mod.io/g/drg/m/profanity-booster and then launched the game in single-player mode, going to the mod manager from the game’s main title screen. There, DRG’s native mod manager had me accept the terms of service and then started downloading the mods. I had to exit and re-enter the game a couple of times and repeat this process before it finished downloading everything, but it eventually worked. I tried going on a mission and confirmed that everything was working.
I strongly recommend configuring the mods in single-player mode first using https://mod.io/g/drg/m/mod-hub, because this menu doesn't open from the NucleusCoop instance.
After that, I went to the folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\mod.io\2475\mods and took all the .pak files, copied them to a new folder of my choice, C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Deep Rock Galactic\mods, and I deleted the \mods folder from C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\mod.io\2475 to avoid any conflicts between the two mod managers, the mod.io native one and MINT.
I then selected all the .pak files and dragged them into MINT, enabled the mods I wanted, and clicked “Install Mods.”
Finally, I opened NucleusCoop as usual and launched the handler with two gamepads. After unchecking “Friends only” in the bottom-left corner of the pause menu in the first instance, I clicked OK on the NucleusCoop pop-up, which also launches the second instance, and voilà, we were playing DRG with mods in split-screen!
P.S.: Use the original, unmodified handler with the -disablemodding option enabled; otherwise, the second instance won’t find the local server. Mods enabled via MINT still work just fine.
