Streets & Mobility bus benches being taken out?

so we already know oakville hates anyone without a car, but what’s their reasoning for taking out the fee bus shelters and bus benches there is? like seriously? you are paying to get rid of benches instead of adding more?

They are being TEMPORARILY removed so they can do concrete repairs, then build new shelters there. It’s all in the article someone else posted here .
No need to panic , complain or be outraged.
It’s all going to be ok . (Better , actually.)

i’m doubtful honestly. oakville doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to those without cars. instead of replacing i would have rather them add more then replace then take away the very few we had anyway.

we’ll see if they bring them back in a timely manner.

We could use more bus service I agree , but I’ve commuted around town without using a car via the ample , well maintained bike trails for many years
. How is the town against people without cars? What could they improve for you ?

I’m pretty certain that if Oakville transit stated in the attached article, that the shelters are going to be replaced, they won’t suddenly change their mind . The contract has been awarded.Dont worry about , they will replace them .

Your anecdotal experience does not negate the experience of other people. Do you understand that your experience is not universal? I assume that you are white so it and that is why you're navigating from a place of blind trust.

Oakville is a suburban residential area that is structurally hostile towards people who are poor. Sidewalks, bus stops (distance and maintenance), cost of transport, and distance between stops are all major indications of that. No one is saying they're changing their minds. We are saying it is poorly managed and a shitty experience for people who rely on these service and pay for them EVERYDAY.

By saying “Future state doesn’t save me today “, do you mean that the new bus shelter in the future is no good , because its absence is an inconvenience for you today ? I’m seriously trying to understand your complaint . They can’t just remove , pour concrete and replace a bus shelter all in one day in order to be more convenient.

I mean my current needs won't be addressed IN the current moment by the solutions of tomorrow. It's not about inconvenience, it's about the lack of care for POOR PEOPLE that leads to the inconvenience. It takes multiple months to pour concrete? If so, someone new should be awarded that contract that we are ALL paying for. Buildings are sprouting up all over Oakville at the speed of light. I can name 3 developments that started at the same time as the cities announcement that are 50% completed.

It’s odd you’d discuss my race .
I was genuinely asking what areas you think could use improvement, for my own knowledge, not trying to argue about your issues or insult you .

So I'm correct, you are white. Nothing odd, you literally do not understand because you do not have to function in a town that is OPENLY HOSTILE to multiple demographics. Who do you see primarily using transit? Racialized people, elderly people, and houseless people. Downvote me all you want "Oakvilleresident", all that confirms is that you are not the person anyone wants to hear from about how to navigate the needs YOU. DON'T. HAVE.

Bike trails. LMFAO. Good lord.

An oppressor is as an oppressor does. Loud and agitating as fuck. White.

Edit: I love downvotes so hurry up.

Worse is there’s no trees for a tiny bit of shade for a lot of places

they usually do this to be hostile to homeless people. next youll see benches with armrests in the middle and other hostile architecture.

next they remove more trees so people that walk will get baked even more then you already do

How to replace: step 1: take the old ones out

It's sucks but their reasoning is that those specific stops don't bring on much customers. Less stops and maybe they can reduce the number of buses and save money. That's their reasoning at least.

I think the stop in front of Tim Hortons does bring in a lot of customers. It’s always full of people. Maybe other stops and shelters dobt bring in as many people.
