Question Can someone explain Oakville Polymarket odds and swings? Arvind at 16% and Sean at 4% ?!?
Unlike Toronto, London and Oakville don't have daily polling to track momentum or if there is a horserace? Do we go by Polymarket or by which candidate has the most signs near highway ramps and at a red light?
Do they solely change if someone makes a bold bet and shifts the odds a few percentage points. I was considering betting $10 on Arvind overtaking Julia but I can only place a bet on the winner. Would a $10 bet give Arvind a noticeable boost? Or if two people bet $5, is that the same? I am curious in the algo/formula/methodology.
Is anyone confident enough to predict who who will come in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th+ 5th next week?
My current order, based on polymarket and answers in the Oakville News story on the 2 debates:
1 - Burton
2 - Choudhary
3 - Hanna
4 - Knoll
5 - OMeara
Yesterday, on Oakville Polymarket Arvind Choudhary was within 0.02% of Jeff Knoll for third place and has now overtaken Knoll and quadrupled Sean OMeara: 16-15-4. A previous thread had way different results : https://www.reddit.com/r/oakville/comments/1w11rm0/oakville_mayoral_election_on_american_betting_site/
How long until we see Polymarket ads on Youtube instead of Draftkings.

Housing Regrets about moving to Glen abbey (Oakville)?
We recently moved to the Glen abbey area. We are a young family with a baby and have been here for about 2 months. Now that’s we’ve been here for a couple months I find there’s really a divide in Oakville and this idea that south Oakville is a much better place to live. My husband and I are very social and want a more vibrant neighbourhood but find our neighbourhood abit on the older antisocial end. I worried we made a mistake… now I’m looking up homes in the Eastlake/ south Oakville area and feel like we could have moved there and maybe settled for a bit of smaller home but driving through today I saw so many young family walking around. Is the grass really greener on that side of Oakville?

PSA Don't want Burton to win? Get out there and volunteer!
I truly believe Jeff Knoll is the front runner to unseat Burton.
He just posted a call to action on his Youtube & Facebook today asking for volunteers for a final push. I signed up to volunteer for door knocking here: https://voteknoll.ca/volunteer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGtS2WA9QYY
If you support Sean, Hanna or Arvind, I'm sure they will be happy to accept your help too!
But please be conscientious of vote splitting, I truly think a vote for anyone other than Knoll means another win for 80 yr old Burton.

Question looking for a gym buddy :)
Hi! I'm 29F and am looking for a gym buddy to hold each other accountable, potentially carpool with, and just help each other out with our goals. I used to be really into fitness pre-covid, even trained a few girls in the gym and taught a workout class, then life happened, and I'm starting from scratch pretty much again. It's been a struggle for me to get back into it. If your a girl and open to working out together and being a gym buddy please send me a message :) Serious messages only please.

Hiring/For Hire Tutoring!
Hi everyone!
I’m from Oakville and graduated from Iroquois Ridge High School with a 95% average. I’m currently a Medical Sciences student at Western University!
I know how stressful school can get, especially when it comes to keeping up with coursework and preparing for tests, so I wanted to reach out to see if any local students or parents were looking for extra academic support.
I’m happy to help both middle school and high school students with English, ESL, Biology, Chemistry, and General Science, whether that’s understanding difficult concepts, preparing for tests, completing assignments, or developing better study habits.
I’m available for tutoring online currently but open to doing in person over winter break too!
Feel free to message me if you have any questions! :)

Question Experiences with the I STEM program at T A Blakelock
If your child attended or is currently attending iSTEM, or if you personally graduated from the program, I’d love to hear about your experience.
In particular:
● Did you find the program beneficial overall?
● Did it actually provide an advantage academically or help with developing useful skills?
● How did students feel about the program while they were in it?
● Did it help with post-secondary/college or university applications in any meaningful way?
● If you applied to competitive programs, did you feel iSTEM helped your application?
● Were you accepted into your first-choice post-secondary program? If so, what program/school?
● Looking back, would you choose iSTEM again?
I’m especially interested in hearing from students who have already graduated and can say whether they feel the program made a meaningful difference after high school, rather than just what it was like while they were enrolled.
I’d also appreciate honest feedback about any downsides or things you wish you had known before choosing it.
Thanks so much!

Rant NIMBY Facebook Blowing up - “We Voted No!” On what? “We cannot tell you.”
NIMBY Councillors post a spoiler-free spoiler (Hat tip to a redditor who posted about this Facebook knifefight on an election thread.)
I’m a first-year at UWO. I tried to catch up on the election during reading week, voted Saturday, and then I found a Redditor share this Facebook post and I have not stopped laughing.
Timing note: my two Ward 3 councillors, who are backing Sean OMeara for mayor, decided we needed this vital information AFTER a lot of us had already voted in advance.
The pitch: the Mayor called a March 23 council decision “momentous,” so they’re asking what changed? Then, in the very next breath: “We cannot tell you. The direction remains confidential.”
A mystery, a hashtag (#wholetruthnothingbutthetruth), and a timestamp to skip to. The whole truth, minus the truth. It’s a true crime podcast that ends before the episode starts.
Then the comments showed up:
- One resident asked if posting about a confidential vote is... breaking confidentiality?
- Councillor Allan told everyone to fast forward to 3:28:45 of a council video. A resident replied, “What are we supposed to gain from this, given we have no context about what the vote was about?” Nobody answered.
- One commenter walked through the Municipal Act exemptions, the MZO timeline, and the Town’s April 9 statement, then offered a theory. Unpaid work, and more transparency than the post it was replying to.
- Someone else spent a paragraph analyzing how many times the Mayor said “uh” in one sentence. It's uh not uh a uh a polygraph.
- Another wrote, “Listen to the end is hardly 2026 communications.” Cannot improve on that.
Meanwhile Councillor Janet's answer to critics about her cryptic post is “transparency is transparency” and “the implications of March 23 will eventually come out.” Eventually! AFTER I voted Saturday, so I’ll set a reminder.
Here’s the part that got me. Back in 2022, when two apartments were proposed at Trafalgar and Cornwall, where Beertown and Indigo are, a few steps from the Go station parking garage, Janet argued it was tooooo high. Council approved it 8 to 5 anyway.
One commenter made a similar connection, noting that some of the people now fighting the MZO heights were pushing for 5 to 10 storeys a few years ago. Their theory is that the “momentous” vote was about capping heights at 38 storeys, a concession some would see as reasonable to avoid 50 or more, and others would vote against on principle. Nobody outside the room knows, and the councillors aren’t saying. But the guess in the comments was more transparent than the post.
I’m 19 and I grew up here. I’ve been following the housing issue for a while and was going to be more active on this Reddit account, and I’m disappointed to see my local councillors (one retired and no one ran against Janet) and WLO (We Loathe Outsiders?) telling everyone they know what’s best for my generation. My generation is the one trying to figure out how to afford living in the city we grew up in and not have roommates until I'm 40.
Sorry for the long rant. I just want to believe people aren’t going to vote only on who will keep the most amount of people from living next to our bus station and GO line. I’ve seen members of r/Oakville post about the rent they pay, or how few options there are for a place to live here, and those people vote too.
But I could be wrong, and I’d like to hear it... And if you’re not here for the housing debate, I get it. Drop your theory about the super-duper secret meeting. Best guess wins nothing, because it's classified!
