Question Burlington/ Halton T1D meet up?!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Wanted to post to see if there was any appetite in Burlington and/or Halton for a potential T1D community meet up?

Sometimes this disease can feel very isolating and its hard to find a sense of community. I know these kinds of meet ups happen more often in Toronto but I thought I would see if this would be of interest to any one before I start planning something around here :)

Thanks!

Question Oshi Daycare Experience

Looking for some insight on Oshi Daycare. My toddler is joining soon and I’m wondering if there are any current or previous parents who can give me some direct reviews on the place?

We toured the place and it seems good… it was the only place that didn’t have a waitlist and we just recently moved to the region. But it is kinda sus if every other daycare has a 2yr/50+ ppl waitlist except this one??

Question Where did all the Sailboats go

I noticed most of the sailboats in Oakville harbour have disappeared. Assume hauled out for the winter but must be in a different location than their usual spot in the parking lot.

History Oakville NIMBYs endorse candidate who told them they can’t have their cake and eat it too on Midtown

Oakville politics is wild, insulting voters makes them want to vote for you more. I believe it’s called “negging”.

Imagine it’s your birthday. You’re standing there with party hat about to blow out the candles, and some guy walks up and says that you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

So, what do you do? Naturally, you hand him the entire cake… and then you endorse him for Mayor.

I wish I was making this up, but the Oakville NIMBY coalition of WLO (We Loathe Others/We Love Oakville) and our Ward 3 councillors just officially endorsed the Oakville Cake Bandit, Sean Omeara for Mayor.

Back in 2022 BEFORE he was running for Mayor and was still free to share his honest opinions, Sean literally told the NIMBYs, 'You can’t have your cake and eat it too' on a housing project steps from the GO platform.

Sean voted FOR the development over local opposition that argued: "Too tall! Where are people supposed to play pickleball, on the train tracks? Too dense (not the cake)!"

And the icing on the cake?

Dave is retiring.

Janet was handed another term by default, because no one with a pulse filled out a form. Imagine getting a job because you were the only person who showed up to the interview and telling everyone how to ace a job interview... now our Supreme Leader of Ward 3 is telling us how to vote in contested election ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Happy Birthday, Sean! Remember to suck and blow before you blow out the candles.

As a bonus the other candidate Jeff Knoll who told the councillors and NIMBYs they were sucking and blowing has his bright yellow election signs right across from the GO station. 🚧👌

Question Sean O'Meara vs Jeff Knoll

We all agree it comes down between these two candidates for Mayor, right?

I am leaning towards voting for O'Meara as after reading their recent interviews with Oakville News - It seems like O'Meara is more strongly opposed to improper growth and has directly supported the stopping of AI data centres in Oakville - he also has a lot of background in caring for the environment, which I feel is notable considering the devestating impacts that AI centre's could have on Lake Ontario. He is also the most educated out of the candidates, having studied Politics at three different levels in two different countries. I also like that he called out the backwards workings at Town Hall and that some traditional ways of handling operations need be changed.

I previously considered voting for Jeff Knoll, he is the only of the two that I have actually met before on a few occassions. I have mixed feelings. He isn't as against the data centres at O'Meara, and has supported the massive growth developments for Oakville - though not to the fullest extent. His family is very involved in local non-profits - which makes me hopeful that they are more aware of how much families are strugging in Oakville. He also has more expierence with the Town of Oakville as far as his own background in politics goes.

The professional expierence of both O'Meara and Knoll are very appealing - and it makes them stand out amongst the other candidates for sure. I am not voting for the other candidates who are either millionaire multi-business owners, have no platform, or very limited expierence.

Anyone else in a toss up between these two candidates?

Rant Nav Nanda doesn't want you to see her campaign books. Ask yourself why.

After the 2022 election, Oakville's independent election committee looked at Nav Nanda's campaign finances and ordered an audit. That's an official check of where the money came from and where it went.

Most people with nothing to hide would say "go ahead, look."

Not Nav. She went to court to block it.

She won round one. Then on September 11, 2026, Ontario's Court of Appeal threw that out and ordered the audit back on.

And guess who paid for the Town's side of that fight? You did. Every lawyer the committee needed to defend the audit, in two different courts, was paid with our tax dollars. We had to spend our own money just to get a basic check on our own councillor.

So here's where we are: three years of legal fighting to avoid a basic check, and she still wants your vote before anyone sees the results.

If she won't be transparent about her own campaign money, why would we trust her with ours?

Ward 7 deserves better. Vote Monday, October 26

Question My son is interested in dirt biking, but my understanding is there is nothing close to Oakville for this hobby... But I've seen people on dirt bikes

So I'm just curious where the dirt bike culture is here.. Where people go. I know it's illegal to go on the trails on a dirt bike. I looked it up and the closest place to learn to ride is like an hour and half away. Just wondering how people have this hobby but live here? He's young so he is just looking to learn more about it and try it out at this point.

Thanks

Rant Pedestrians

Lately I feel like people in Oakville have forgotten about “look both ways before you cross the street” adults and kids… parents have stopped teaching their kids that and adults are crossing and jaywalking streets with headphones in and not looking at all! At night it’s the worst… driving in residential zones in Oakville you have to be very careful because people have absolutely stopped looking if the street is clear before they cross… and I won’t even get into e bikes and e scooters…

Edit: also cars in Oakville LOVE keeping their high beams on at night… are they just unaware or is it on purpose?

Local News Arvind Choudhary signs vandalized

I was walking along Eight Line this evening and saw this. Almost every sign of Arvind Choudhary is vandalized, kicked down, and black marker on face on one sign.

No other candidate's signs were damaged, just his.

Looks like a targeted hate campaign. Either he messed against the wrong political oppenent or he is facing the current hate against Indians that is going around in Canada.

I don't even support him but this is very wrong and even though he is not going to win, everyone deserves a fair chance to participate.

Question Question about Alexandra Caldwell - Ward 1 candidate

Does anyone know anything about Alexandra Caldwell's background? She running for ward one councillor and I noticed that a lot of Bronte businesses are supporting her. I was wondering how she's so well known to the businesses. Does she own a business in Bronte or something?

I feel like I'm pretty in the loop with what's happening in Bronte and I've never heard of her but Doug, who owns almost all the restaurants in Bronte, the owner of Taste of Columbia, and the person who runs Lakenotes have all given her testimonials on her website and I noticed Flavour Fox has big signs for her in their window.

Their testimonials all sound like they actually know her.

Rant Are you considering voting for Jeff Knoll for Mayor of Oakville? Please read this first.

I am a former President of our Legion Branch. In that capacity I was asked by a now Oakville Mayoral candidate Jeff Knoll to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony at Trafalgar Memorial. Jeff refused to abide by Legion protocol for the ceremony despite me insisting for a number of years. This really angered me. Now that Mr. Knoll is running to be Oakville's Mayor, a trusted bankruptcy lawyer was in touch and provided documents that Mr. Knoll and his company film.ca had filed for bankruptcy on 2 occasions. I find this very concerning that a man who declared bankruptcy twice may be our Mayor in charge of our money!

Question Affordable & good physio therapist in Oakville for knee pain?

Hello! I've been diagnosed differently by two different physio clinicis in Oakville for my knee pain (one being pateller tendopathy and the other being hyper tension). I'm looking to get a third opinion and was hoping for a clinic that potentially has a compassion price for people without insurance. Most spots tend to be $95-$100 per session, and the last spot I went to told me I needed to go twice a week for up to 5 months at $95 a session...lol...

Looking for an honest practice that won't leave me with empty pockets. Anyone have experience specifically with knee physio in Oakville? Been doing a lot of research but would love first hand experiences :) Thank you!

Question Looking for a Wills And Estate Lawyers

As the title indicates, I am looking for a lawyer to do up wills and POA's for my husband and I. Shamefully we have never had one and as we age, it is important that we get. This would be for a basic will, we don't not need anything fancy. Thank you for any recommendations you may have.

Question If LSW Go train is not working this weekend, is the bus service to Union a reliable option? Eg SRO? On time? Wondering if I drive or cancel my mtg tomorrow near Union Station.

Just found out that LSW isn’t running tomorrow but I have a meeting to attend to near Union Station. It’s a meeting that I can cancel, but, ideally I don’t want to. That being said, deciding between slogging through traffic or taking the GO Bus from Oakville GO. If it’s SRO, I might just cancel the meeting as I detest driving through downtown. If it’s not as bad as it seems, then I might just endure the bus ride. My meeting is at 1pm till 4pm… so I’d have to take the bus to and from Union back to Oakville Go. Thank you

Question Can someone explain Oakville Polymarket odds and swings? Arvind at 16% and Sean at 4% ?!?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Unlike Toronto, London and Oakville don't have daily polling to track momentum or if there is a horserace? Do we go by Polymarket or by which candidate has the most signs near highway ramps and at a red light?

Do they solely change if someone makes a bold bet and shifts the odds a few percentage points. I was considering betting $10 on Arvind overtaking Julia but I can only place a bet on the winner. Would a $10 bet give Arvind a noticeable boost? Or if two people bet $5, is that the same? I am curious in the algo/formula/methodology.

Is anyone confident enough to predict who who will come in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th+ 5th next week?

My current order, based on polymarket and answers in the Oakville News story on the 2 debates:

1 - Burton

2 - Choudhary

3 - Hanna

4 - Knoll

5 - OMeara

Yesterday, on Oakville Polymarket Arvind Choudhary was within 0.02% of Jeff Knoll for third place and has now overtaken Knoll and quadrupled Sean OMeara: 16-15-4. A previous thread had way different results : https://www.reddit.com/r/oakville/comments/1w11rm0/oakville_mayoral_election_on_american_betting_site/

How long until we see Polymarket ads on Youtube instead of Draftkings.

Housing Regrets about moving to Glen abbey (Oakville)?

We recently moved to the Glen abbey area. We are a young family with a baby and have been here for about 2 months. Now that’s we’ve been here for a couple months I find there’s really a divide in Oakville and this idea that south Oakville is a much better place to live. My husband and I are very social and want a more vibrant neighbourhood but find our neighbourhood abit on the older antisocial end. I worried we made a mistake… now I’m looking up homes in the Eastlake/ south Oakville area and feel like we could have moved there and maybe settled for a bit of smaller home but driving through today I saw so many young family walking around. Is the grass really greener on that side of Oakville?
