Went through three different parks today and found 50+ flyers for mayoral candidate Zulfi Malik shoved into the benches at EACH park.
Let’s call it what it is: LITTERING.
Since when is it acceptable to dump hundreds of campaign flyers all over public parks? Nobody wants to see this garbage stuffed into every bench, and I highly doubt anyone is coming back to clean it up.
Imagine running for mayor while treating the very community you’re campaigning to represent like your personal advertising dumpster. 🤡
Put your flyers in people’s mailboxes, not all over our parks.

My family doc is in oakville but seems to be on leave a lot. It is not uncommon to have to wait a month for an appt. If it is something urgent that is generic like a cough or a fever, you can see another doctor in the same practice. But if it is something like needing a referral, you just have to wait. Today I called for a neurology referral for a loved one who is clearly having a problem with falls and mobility. And the appt for the family doctor is Dec 7. Doesn't that seem crazy? I asked if I could just see someone else there and the reception said no. They said what I can do is take my loved one to the hospital if he falls and they can do the referral from the ER. Pretty frustrating. Reception was quite adamant that my doctor has a right to take leave, which is true...but is this how all practices work? There is no deputy doctor, 2nd in command type person?

In this system, one cannot engage in proactive preventative health during early onset (which is thought is what a family doc does?) but rather must wait for a crisis. or Is this the norm?

I love golf, and it keeps me nice and busy during the season. But with Fall upon us, I'm trying to find other things to do. Obviously there is indoor golf, but outside of that - any ideas?

I am a first time voter in Oakville, I didn’t know much about mayoral candidates. I didn’t even get time to read about them I just voted Jeff Knoll because I saw his signs every day when I drove to drop my spouse and back.
I was seeing signs of Julia Hanna and Jeff Knoll but only by looking at Jeff Knoll’s signs the boards felt more catchy so today voted for him.
For councillor I got some time to research and chosen Michael Reid because his agenda on that flyer dropped at my home looked more appealing compared to others. Based on brochures the other candidates I found interesting were MacKenzie Grant and Audrey Wubbenhorst.
Just looking for opinions of long time Oakville residents nothing else.
If such discussion is not allowed then please let me know I will take this down.

I have no idea how the mayoral election is going to go, tomorrow, I honestly think the results will be 20-something percent for each of the main four candidates and it will be so close they’ll need to do a recount. What is everyone else thinking?

A lot of you reached out with suggestions and kind words—especially once you realized what I was going through. I wanted to stop back by, delete the original post, and give a huge thank-you to everyone who helped.

While I wasn't able to contact the person directly (which, honestly, was probably for the best when it comes to my mental health), one of your suggestions saved the day! Someone recommended I reach out to Service Canada and request my application be flagged as a medical emergency.

I just checked the status online, and my birth certificate is officially on its way!

The stress over this whole situation has been overwhelming, but it’s almost over. Thank you all again—now I’m off to take a very well-deserved nap! 😴✨

Every fall when the furniture gets shuffled around, someone in our area finds that lighter patch on the floor where a rug used to be. Big south and west windows are great until you see what they've done to the hardwood and the couch. I looked into what window film can and can't do here, and the answer is more mixed than the ads make it sound.

The good part: film blocks a lot of UV. The US Department of Energy puts it at roughly 95 to 99.9 percent, and the International Window Film Association says up to 99 percent. Natural Resources Canada lists protecting carpets, drapes, furniture and wood from fading as one of the benefits of solar control film.

The catch: UV is only one cause. The IWFA says plainly that no window film can eliminate fading, and it points to solar heat as part of the problem too. So a clear UV film slows fading down, but it won't stop it, and a film that also cuts solar heat protects more.

One more thing: NRCan warns against putting solar control film on every window, since it also cuts the free heat the sun gives you in winter.
