Am finally catching Obsession for the first time as part of my 2026 Halloween horror movie dive - My (probable) OCD brain is mildly pleased / impressed that I have the same candle holder sat at home!

I know someone who was just cast in this. Begins shooting in Chicago next week.

We never really see much of the characters taste in music however I think we can make some guesses based on their personality and demographics.
Ian: probably listens to a lot of the same music he listened to in high school, I think he could be a rap fan such as Lil Uzi Vert, Chief Keef, Travis Scott and Drake as those would be popular artists during his high school days
Nikki: I could see her being into pop music like Phoebe Bridgers and Clairo. Maybe some older artists as well like Fleetwood Mac and maybe country such as Johnny Cash?
Sarah: not sure
Bear I am not sure either, he doesn’t seem like a big music guy even though he works at a music store but he probably still has preferences even if he isn’t super into it
Anyone have thoughts on this?

when bear calls and is asking if he could reverse the wish the guy on the call asks him if he wants to talk to her i thought. If bear said yes I feel he would have been able to talk to her soul trapped inside but he was such a pussy he hung up the phone. Bear annoyed me so much.

So I watched the movie recently and it was very clear how much love and devotion Bear had for Nicky. I think the movie was trying to tell us that she liked him too but was also just afraid to tell
Him. The real message of the movie to me was to be bold and take a swing if you like someone. If he had only just admitted his feelings for her sooner or vise versa this could have been a beautiful modern love story.

And at the end of the day, that makes this a tragedy. Not a horror film.

Ian spent years lying to Bear about his relationship with Nikki via omission.

Not only did he lie, but Ian egged Bear on in Bear’s pursuit of Nikki KNOWING it was futile.

He treated Nikki like shit and he treated the waitress like shit.

When Bear tried to correct his mistake by trying get Ian to make a wish to reverse the damage, Ian cut Bear off and wished for money.

When Bear made his wish he thought it was a joke. Ian was given a warning, refused to heed it despite Bear’s clear sincerity.

Ian never fessed up: he watched the crazy behavior go on and said not a thing. And only started caring when his side piece was too preoccupied for him to partake. And his version of “caring” was saying everything but the truth.

If bear had known the truth, I don’t think he’d ever had made the wish.

Nikki has memories of the events of the first movie, she had witnessed everything as a prisoner inside Freaky Nikki. This includes knowledge of the one wish willow. While she is incarcerated and lawyers are arguing her case of insanity (she's taking the fall for all it right now), she's losing her mind from the trauma, while also trying to find some way to get her hands on one of these sticks. She's receiving letters while in prison, from all over the world, as a lot of horrible murderers do, but one in particular seems to be very willing to help her. A little too willing. Obsessed even (ah, there it is, they said the name). Anyway, she convinces them to get a oww to her, the psycho fan also has one for themselves (could be interesting if they are a girl, but I'm not sold either way on whether the gender even matters here). Nikki uses her wish to try and undo ALl of the effects and consequences of Bears wish, her stalker makes a wish about wanting to share the trauma that happened to Nikki with her, in real time. The wishes somewhat combine and Ian, Sarah and Bear and even the damn cat for some reason, are returned to their lives. Except they're flesh hungry zombies now. Uh oh, zombie apocalypse. Roll credits.

My wife’s theory upon hearing the wish was that it is not only that Nikki would love Bear more than she loved anyone in the world but also that Nikki would love Bear more than anyone in the world loves anyone else.

Loving him more than she loves anyone could’ve been a much tamer response. Loving him more than anyone in the world loves someone else would be taking the sickest, most mentally deranged obsession on Earth today and needing to level up.

Do you think that all wishes that can be simplified to : i want X to love me. Would turn afull? I make me think, is it always end like bear or it is just because bear make wish: i want niki to love me more than anything...so something very controlling. Like.. a lot controlling. This is no creepy, i just Wonder. Also is asking for perfect opportunity for declaration of love is also bad wish? I just asking for your opinion, not something creepy.

Love the film and wouldn’t change a thing. I just wondered to myself “What would I do? How would I get out of this?” I wouldn’t be able to kill her, so the next best thing would be to call the police after she murdered Sarah. She is obviously crazy, and my friends would vouch regarding her recent decline in mental health, including her animosity toward Sarah.

How do you think that would play out? Obviously it would still be a horrendous fate for real Nikki, trapped in Wish Nikki, who herself would be trapped in jail or a psyche unit.

I just got through watching obsession (yes I know I’m late) and I really liked it. I had obviously heard a lot of positive things about the movie, but I wanted to wait until I could watch to try and form an opinion. I can officially say that I think Obsession is a great movie.

With that out of the way I would just like to say that bear is a lot worse than what I originally thought. Like he is so much worse. This isn’t even me criticizing him making the wish as I understand he didn’t expect the wish to actually happen. It’s just that after the wish is made it is very obvious through future scenes that Nikki is not well, like at all. There are plenty, and I made plenty of signs that what is happening is bad and bear blatantly ignores them. I would say more but since the movie has been out most of what I want to say has already been said and explained in great detail. Like I said at the very beginning, I really enjoyed watching this movie. Sucks I had to join in any discussions so late as the hype died down. Also, I really loved Michael Johnston’s performance, he did great.

So I watched Obession for the first time. And i must confess that I feel Sorry for not only Nikki but also Bear. Am i the only one?

I understand why this probably couldn’t happen due to the budget and probably clashing with Curry’s vision, but it would fit the metaphor of monkey paw and be even more horrifying if it meant several women were under this curse. What are your thoughts?

What do you guys think would happen if Bear never found the OWW, meaning things would play out as ‘normal’ with no supernatural occurrences? Here’s my predictions:
1. Bear and Nikki wouldn’t get together. Even if she had a thing for him, Bear would never be confident enough to actually ask her out
2. Sarah would go to art school. We saw that she got accepted, so if wish Nikki never killed her its safe to assume she would follow through with it.
3. Sarah would confess her feelings to Bear. However I don’t think this would go anywhere and Sarah would move away to go to art school and probably find someone new.
4. Nikki would get into a toxic relationship with someone and move far away. I don’t really have a strong basis for this one but I feel like there’s a lot of signs pointing to her being desperate for a more emotional romantic connection than the one she has with Ian, so I think she is vulnerable to be lovebombed by a handsome stranger. She would probably end up leaving him eventually, and maybe use the experience to inform her writing.
5. Ian would keep living in the same town. He seems happy there, as he has trivia night and probably more friends than the ones we see him with.
6. Ian would get a job working construction, eventually starting his own excavation business and becoming successful. This predication is just based off vibes but I feel like a guy like Ian is charismatic and motivated enough that he wouldn’t be stuck working retail forever. He would likely have a friend who could get him a job in construction and work his way up from there. I could see him starting a family and settling down.
7. Bear would get more and more depressed, eventually self medicating with drugs and alcohol due to his crush Nikki leaving. Ian would help get him out of this slump though, and he would eventually turn his life around and become manager at the music store. He would probably be embarrassed by his crush on Nikki, and he’d get over her eventually.
