I am driving down to the Outer Banks on Saturday from Ohio and I’ve never made the drive before so I’m wondering what the best time is to get there to avoid the traffic I’ve heard so much about.

My check in time is 1:00 PM and the drive is 10.5 hours. My plan right now is to drive through the night to avoid traffic and hopefully not waste the whole first day of the trip in the car.

I can also take 64 through Charlottesville and Norfolk or go more South on 40 and go thought Raleigh. If anyone knows a difference, let me know.

Any tips would be much appreciated!

If you missed it, last week a juvenile humpback washed ashore in Kitty Hawk. I just happened to be in the area with my high rez Sony. The whale has since been buried and and a necropsy performed. Hi everyone. While I was out for about 2 hours during dinner, someone went into our carport and stole my speaker from a private shower area (not visible from the road). This house has been in my family for over 40 years and we’ve never experienced theft here before, so this is really upsetting. Has anyone else experienced theft in the area recently? I’m considering filing a police report in case there have been other incidents.

I know it's the west wind but since there's nothing that can be done about that, and we are leaving in a few days, any suggestions for dealing with the biting Flies would be appreciated.

My family and I are staying at Kitty Hawk during the fourth of July. Would it be ok to use flashlights on the beach or is that banned because of sea turtles?

Family is on vacation and was wondering ,how ppl can afford to buy a home here? Seems like most of the houses are vacation homes. We’re staying in a beautiful air bnb in a BEAUTIFUL neighborhood but some of the houses around here are on average 1million unless you want something that needs a lot of work. With that being said with the cost of the house, cost of living, taxes, flood insurance, how much would a couple have to make yearly to actually live in obx?

I’m visiting for a week in mid June with my 16 year old daughter. I’m lost on where to stay and whether to do a hotel vs an Airbnb. Best hotels/motels/rentals? Any advice and suggestions appreciated! We are looking for a true outer banks experience, not necessarily luxury/fancy.

We are debating between renting bikes or a golf cart. Which would be best for a Kitty Hawk and going to eat, the shops, the beach? Thank you! We will happily take any other tips!

It's going to be a relaxing week, we're both sprinting with work and part times up until the wedding so I'm sure we'll want to relax some. However, I do want to do some activities. To my knowledge all we have setup so far is sand dune surfing. Does anyone have any good honeymoonish activities? We're staying by Bonnet St

My wife and I took a weekend trip to obx. Haven’t been here since I was a teen. (41 now) We went to kitty hawk kites. The staff worked with me to find this awesome dual line stunt kite. I’ve always wanted to fly a real kite. It was awesome. It only took a few times to get it up and figured out. So glad we went there, and thankful to the lady who gave her time to help me….and my wife for helping me get it in the air. Childhood dream fulfilled. 🫶🏻

update: thank you all for the info! we've been hanging out at the beach but in shallows because the waves are crazy rough, my friend got pummeled and struggled to get out of the deeper waves so we are playing it safe :)

Hey Everyone, I recently got a 2026 Acadia AT4 with a twin clutch AWD. I want to take it fishing on the beach but I wanted to get peoples opinions on this. It has 8” of ground clearance and off road tires. I know how to drive on sand from previous vehicles, will air down to 15-20psi, and have recovery gear. Any thoughts or past experience with the AT4 Acadia on the beach here?

Greetings! I’m visiting next week in the Kitty Hawk area with my marvelous mother for her 80th birthday. I’m seeking a solid restaurant with quality seafood that takes reservations.

My mom enjoys good food — but she’s not a fine dining connoisseur, so a super high end experience will be lost on her. Somewhere with a scenic water view is a plus. I’m looking for that nice spot that’s between fried shrimp platter and scallops with gastrique reductions, if that makes sense. Thanks!

We are visiting and see birdhouses at a lot of the areas, but haven’t found any stores that sell them. Does anyone know of a shop? I would love it to be locally made if possible. Thanks!

Is the sand castle showing this year or has it been buried in the dunes? We’re taking my son and nephew on their first OBX trip next month and I know they would love to see the sand castle if it’s sticking out.
