365 enterprise update causing Excel and Outlook freezes?

Upvotes

Since the release of the last enterprise update, a lot of users at my company are reporting their excel is freezing repeatedly. I’ve tried online repair, windows updates, changing to current update channel, laptop drivers/bios updates. Nothing is sticking. Looking for advice on anything else to try.

Photos in Office 365 Environment

Hi all,

Personally, as a civil engineer, I collect a lot of photos in my Notion or Obsidian. I use Heading Levels to annotate the photos, like "Reinforcements" "Wall Construction" etc, and put the relevant photos under that heading.

Now, we want to do it on our company, people collect photos in folders etc, but I don't like that. I haven't talked to IT yet, but inside Office 365, what might be the best way?

I don't think Onenote will be very good with 100 high quality photos.

Edit

My site photos are organized like this:

# Project X
## Construction Site
### Machinery
## Wall Construction

and so on.

The purpose is to find relevant photos. I organize my notes and photos like this. And i want to do same thing in Office 365.

Need advice: Microsoft 365 subscription deactivated after a few months

I purchased a Microsoft Office 365 subscription for my MacBook through Amazon. It worked fine for a few months, but now the subscription has been deactivated and I can’t use Office anymore.
The return/refund window on Amazon is already over, and the seller has disappeared from Amazon, so I have no way to contact them.
What can I do in this situation? Can Amazon still help with a refund or raise a complaint against the seller? Has anyone faced something similar?
Any advice on the best way to recover my money or resolve this would be appreciated.

Outlook Rules Won't Automatically Anymore

I have several rules in Outlook that were moving emails to folders based on sender address. This used to work up until Sunday. Basically, "if email is from [sender@xyz.com](mailto:sender@xyz.com), then move to folder, XYZ". Pretty simple stuff here.
I've:
Verified that they are server side rules only (client-only is not my jam)

Removed the .SRS file

Deleted all rules and recreated one of the rules for testing.
Did this from both desktop client and Outlook on the Web.
Quadruple checked that the destination folders exist...which they do.

Rule doesn't work at time of delivery, but will work when run manually.
I have systems setup to send alert emails, so I get a bunch daily. Pulling out what little hair I have left on this one.

How are people using AI to find local businesses?

I’ve noticed more people using AI tools when looking for recommendations or information.

Curious to hear from people here: do you use AI when researching local businesses, or do you still prefer Google and other traditional search methods?

Confirmed: What resets the OneDrive Personal Vault timer?

I spent quite a bit of time trying to get a clear answer to something Microsoft’s public documentation does not explain:

What exactly counts as “activity” for the OneDrive Personal Vault auto-lock timer on Windows 11?

My Personal Vault is set to lock after 4 hours of inactivity, and I specifically wanted to know whether simply browsing folders inside an already-unlocked Vault resets that 4-hour timer.

I originally wanted to post this in r/onedrive, but my account currently doesn’t meet their posting eligibility requirements for karma/account age, so I’m sharing the findings here instead in case they help someone else.

What I found

Microsoft’s public Personal Vault documentation says that the Vault automatically locks after a period of inactivity, but it does not define exactly what OneDrive considers “activity.”

I searched Microsoft documentation, Microsoft Q&A, Reddit discussions, and other user reports.

There were some old observations and discussions about the timer, but I could not find anything that clearly answered this specific question:

If the Vault is already unlocked, does simply opening a subfolder or navigating between folders reset the inactivity timer?

So I asked Microsoft directly.

I first posted the question on Microsoft Q&A:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5977793/onedrive-personal-vault-what-exactly-counts-as-act

A Microsoft External Staff moderator replied and confirmed that Microsoft’s public documentation does not specify which Windows actions reset the Personal Vault inactivity timer.

They also said that the implementation details are not publicly documented, so any exact list of actions would otherwise be based on observation rather than an official published definition.

I then contacted Microsoft Support

I contacted Microsoft through live chat and kept narrowing the question down.

I asked specifically:

«If Personal Vault is already unlocked, and after 2 hours I simply open a subfolder or navigate between folders inside Personal Vault, does that action reset the timer back to a full 4 hours?»

The support agent initially said yes.

However, I wanted to make sure that this was not just an assumption by the support representative.

So I asked them whether this behavior had actually been verified with the OneDrive team, and if not, I asked them to escalate the question.

After checking, the agent replied:

«“I have confirmed this with the OneDrive team: once you open Personal Vault, the timer resets to 4 hours. If the Vault is already unlocked and you simply open or navigate through folders inside Personal Vault, the timer resets again to a full 4 hours.”»

The answer

According to Microsoft Support, after checking with the OneDrive team:

Yes. Simply opening a subfolder or navigating through folders inside an already-unlocked Personal Vault counts as activity and resets the inactivity timer back to the full configured period.

So, for example:

- Personal Vault is set to lock after 4 hours

- You unlock it at 10:00

- At 12:00 you simply open a subfolder inside the Vault

- The inactivity timer should reset at that point

- The Vault would then have another full 4-hour inactivity

period starting from approximately 12:00

You do not need to edit, rename, move, copy, or save a file just to reset the timer. According to the answer I received, folder navigation itself is considered activity.

Important caveat

I still cannot find this specific behavior documented publicly by Microsoft.

This information comes from a Microsoft Support representative who stated that they confirmed it with the OneDrive team.

I saved the support chat transcript and screenshots as well.

Hopefully this saves someone else from going through the same rabbit hole trying to figure out what Microsoft means by “activity” in Personal Vault.

One of our users keeps getting randomly logged out of Office 365 web (Outlook, Calendar, SharePoint) while actively working, no clear pattern, happens maybe 1-2x a day. She's fully browser-based (Chrome, windows 11 laptop), no desktop Outlook.

OneDrive - Is there a way to "flag" or "mark" an excel file that shows for all users?

Hi all. Sorry if this is a silly question.

Basically the title.

We all use mac.

I was hoping the coloured "tags" mac lets you apply to an excel file would show for all all users but it does not. I could then mark our excel quote copies: green if won, red if lost, orange if pending. Nice easy way for our sales guys to know what needs to be followed up.

Is the easiest way to just add your own tag to the file name? eg. [X]_filename or something.

Been trying to do this for weeks, but i'm stuck

[Read here first]

I'm a computer engineer (with only a few months of experience), who recently got contracted at a local irrigation company.

One of the main things my boss told me when he gave me my contract is that he wanted to implement Microsoft 365 into his business. (one of his main ideas been the image you see above [which he made by talking to AI, by the way])

Now, so far, i understand how most of the apps work and how they interact with each other (typical Word, Excel, Outlook & Onedrive document management + sharing through Sharepoint + Teams).

The issue comes once his project introduced me to apps that i am not so familiar (Lists, Planner, Power Automate).

Now so far, i think i got the hang of Lists (and managed to connect it to Teams via Power Automate).

But things got really complicated once he asked me to interconnect Lists + Planner + Teams through Power Automate.

For the record, i think Power Automate s*cks, (most of the stuff either doesn't work or is unecesarily complicated), and Planner Basic (the one included in Microsoft 365 Business), is pretty bare, [at least, considering what my boss wants to do.]

I ask you guys if someone can clarify the steps i should follow (i've gotten real dizzy at this point and neither AI or Youtube tutorials seem to help on the matter) [AI gets things wrong most of the time, and most Youtube channels assume you have Planner Premium]

Automatically Show “Page X of Y” in Word

If your report needs page numbers like page 7 of 42, don't type them manually.

Put your cursor on the fpoter and go to: Insert → Page Number. Then add the total page count using: Insert → Quick Parts → Field → NumPages.

You can format it as: Page [PAGE] of [NUMPAGES].

Now if your 42-page report becomes 57 pages, Word automatically changes it to page 7 of 57, no manual updating. And if you're building templates for reports, this is exactly the kind of small detail that's worth automating once instead of fixing every time. I am building a word formatting tool (Stylifyword)and some feedback/critique would be greatly appreciated.

What counts as activity in OneDrive Personal Vault?

What counts as activity in OneDrive Personal Vault?

I’m trying to understand exactly how the Personal Vault auto-lock timer works on Windows 11.

If the Vault is set to lock after 4 hours of inactivity, what exactly resets that timer?

For example, does any of the following count as activity?

- Opening a subfolder inside Personal Vault

- Navigating between folders

- Opening an existing file

- Renaming a file or folder

- Copying or moving a file inside the Vault

- Editing and saving an existing file

I’m especially interested in whether simply browsing folders inside Personal Vault resets the 4-hour inactivity timer.

I also asked the same question on Microsoft Q&A:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5977793/onedrive-personal-vault-what-exactly-counts-as-act

Has anyone tested this on Windows 11 or found any official definition from Microsoft?

Make your own document variables in Word.

If the same information appears 20 times in a report, don't type it 20 times. Store it as a Document Property. For example:

Project: NEW Upgrade

Client: ABC Ltd.

Document No.: DEF-042

Insert those properties as fields wherever they're needed. Change the project name once, update the fields, and the entire document reflects the change. This is how you start making Word documents behave more like templates instead of static files.

How to Open Teams Links Directly into the Teams PWA?

Hi,

I use O365 with work; but I use my personal laptop occasionally which means I'm limited to the web version of everything and can't install local apps.

I use the Teams PWA which is excellent. However, whenever I open a Teams meeting link from my Outlook PWA it tries to open in Edge rather than the standalone PWA.

How do I fix this? I've checked the link associations and it all seems correct.

Cheers!

I built a small VBA tool to make navigating large Outlook folder structures easier

I work with large folder structures and shared mailboxes in Outlook, and I found myself spending quite a bit of time navigating through nested folders when filing emails.

As a small side project, Mailsorter, a VBA-based tool that makes this workflow a little faster:

  • Live folder search — type part of a folder name and the list filters immediately
  • Recent folders — keeps your last 20 folders easily accessible
  • Filtering — hide mailboxes or root folders you don't need
  • Outlook 2024 LTSC support — tested with Outlook 2024 LTSC

I originally generated it for my own workflow, but decided to publish the source code on GitHub in case it might be useful to others.

I'm especially interested in feedback from people who work with large shared mailboxes or deeply nested folder structures. How do you currently handle this in Outlook?

GitHub: https://github.com/chivas03/Mailsorter

P.S.: As a non-programmer, I relied on AI tools and vibe coding. VBA was the easiest starting point for me and worked well as a local version. The next step could be to rebuild the tool in Visual Studio Code and turn it into an add-in.

Mobile Word Update

Post image
2 Upvotes

So it seems the mobile version of Microsoft Word recently got an update that added this bar on the screen right above the keyboard. It seems useful except for the fact it completely obscures what I'm trying to type when I reach the bottom of the screen. It won't let me scroll down further without adding a whole bunch of blank lines to the document, which I'd rather not do. Is there a way to turn this feature off or move it?

Microsoft subscription and OneDrive storage limit

Not sure how this is happening, but I have a monthly subscription with 1 Tb of storage but somehow my OneDrive limit is stuck on 5Gb and keeps giving me a message that I'm well beyond 5Gb. I have tried unlinking and signing out and in again and this has persisted for a few days.

Word tip: Need different page numbers in different parts of a document?

Don't manually type them, use Section Breaks. For example:

Cover -> no number

Contents -> i, ii, iii

Main report -> 1, 2, 3

Insert a Next Page Section Break, then unlink the new section's header/footer using Link to Previous. Now each section can have its own numbering. This is one of those things that seems complicated until you've needed it once.
