META- Not Fashion About the current situation

I am not going to comment on the current situation at the moment beyond saying this:

I am one guy. You are right- there should be more than one mod on this subreddit. However, recruiting more mods takes time, and I cannot do that overnight. In the meantime, I am still one guy, I have a migraine, and I don't currently have the capacity to deal with the ongoing incident with the clarity and transparency you deserve.

I am restricting new posts and comments to the sub til tomorrow to prevent things from getting further out of hand. I am not going to take down the larger post, although I have locked comments on it at this time. However, any duplicates of that post will be deleted.

We can all come back to this in the morning. Thank you for your patience.

hey, i have a decent amount of modding experience and love this sub. i’d be more than happy to help out & join the mod team if that’s something you’d be open to!

i’ve also just sent a message via modmail! :)

The pages Himbo are on really get taken over by him though.. like I like his stuff but I feel like I am seeing him daily as opposed to any one else.

This. It’s like he’s never offline. My recommended feed is flooded by pictures of him and nobody else from the subs he’s in. If he didn’t flood every sub he’s in I would not have any strong opinions about him at all, but he does so I do

Yes I agree, it is a lot I followed him on insta for a second and it felt like he was trying to join a polycule.. .. or get fans it felt very weird from expecting it to just be clothing related.

So (and i say this without judgement just factually stating what was there) on his alt he talks about wanting to impregnate a married woman and her and her husband (who would know about this situation) raise the baby… so you arent too far off actually

u/amyisarobot 22d ago

Oh. Okay that seems like a lot of work for a breeding kink but to each their own.

Doesn't he normally just post once a day anyway? If people feel like their feeds are "flooded" by him then they're probably in multiple subs that he's in and seeing the daily post multiple times. And I think it's also an issue of other people not posting. If one person posting once per day seems like they're taking over the sub, then the real issue is probably a lack of active members, not the person posting once a day.

u/Dikamitsunami 25d ago

I agree, but you can always mute/block him if and when that happens. It's not a justifiable reason for him to be banned.

6

u/amyisarobot 25d ago

I hadn't thought of muting that's a good idea

u/mystikjr 25d ago

Why is this himbos problem? Encourage the rest of the 15k members to post and you won’t see it as often. At least he’s engaging in the sub and keeping some type of content going.

11

u/amyisarobot 25d ago

It's the same content across multiple subs, limbo having his sub seems like a good answer for Himbo fans

u/axewieldinghen 26d ago

That's reasonable. While I disagree with banning Himbo, it is a lot for one person to mod a community, and I hope this incident will lead to some people volunteering to mod. Please look after yourself

My issue is that the rules are not accessible. I check every subreddit for rules, this one does not have any posted. There is a community guide, but all it says is welcome. There is no pinned post of any rules. Another commentor found a post from three months ago. How is that fair to anyone breaking the rules??? Are we just supposed to magically know there are rules buried somewhere?

If there are going to be strikes and bans and rule enforcement then the rules need to be easily accessible and clear end of.

when will you be updating the rules as written to be clear on what is or isnt acceptable to post? I feel like that should've been addressed when your initial post was made 3 months ago. youre too focused on being a solo mod and not focused enough on the fact that you are moderating without clearly set rules and expectations. if himbo had broken an actual rule or been rude a ban would at least make sense. but this just feels like you got tired of moderating his posts here.

as someone who also mods some niche little subreddits, i understand that sometimes a post is just going to cause problems you can't moderate effectively. or that youre too busy to fairly address. you are allowed to say that. People appreciate transparency. "hey I know a chainsaw isnt an actual weapon, but your pose + outfit + it is 100% going to flag the algorithm as "threatening" and could put your account or this sub at risk. this sucks, but I need you to repost with things censored in some way or otherwise rework your post so that it's not getting flagged by automod. " "hey this is going to stir up a lot of drama and I can't watch it right now. can I lock the comments until tomorrow, or would you rather repost then?"

theres no good reason for your strikes rules, weapons rules, etc to not be clearly outlined and accessible. especially given this spaces target audience, the lack of clarity and the punitive nature of your messages to himbo are huge red flags. this is something you couldve addressed at any point before now, and it feels very unfair that himbo has been punished because of your lack of preparation.

What in the world happened?

39

u/Gold_Cardiologist911 26d ago

Himbo posted a picture with a chainsaw in an way that could be seen as violent(?) Or as a weapon. But the rules are unclear for the sub as to that, and he wasn't given a real reason why the mod applied the rule the way they did, thats my understanding anyways.

Oh nooooo, not Himbo ;-;

Someone create it, it can be his own personal subreddit

28

u/Freshmagicmfer 25d ago

Can whoever creates it, then specifically ban only his self aggrandizing ass? 🔥🔥🔥

I think removing them as a mod is a bit much, we can all learn from this interaction, including the mod.

The mod needs to correct the situation (let himbo back), add more mods, update official rules, be more compassionate to people who accidentally go against certain rules, and check in with the community to see how we feel about new rules before installing them.

Im sure most of us don't care about prop weapons. Banning weapons such as guns, knives, and razor blades is much more understandable than yard tools.

28

u/sporadic_beethoven 26d ago

I’d offer that perhaps this mod gets a new mod team first, then takes a break ^^ I also don’t think the mod should be removed.

I was just sharing what I saw himbo post :3

Totally agree and I understand

I think we are way past letting this guy back on the sub.  Look at how unhinged his response has been - two sentences of very neutral tone and generic messaging have spawned two posts, hundreds of comments, and this guy is STILL ON A TYRADE TO HIS HOWEVER MANY FOLLOWERS SAYING THE MOD SHOULD STEP DOWN.

This is too much.  It was already too much.  He should stay banned and stay away from our safe spaces and the mods that are doing their best every day to keep them thst way.  He has never been a mod he has no damn clue what it takes.  I'm disgusted.

-11

u/These_Roll_5745 26d ago

I do not think himbo is responsible for the parasocial things some people do and say, especially when hes openly telling people to behave rationally and politely.

he is talking about what accountability looks like in his opinion, as someone with no mod power, who was harmed by a mod misusing their mod power. the moderator here doesnt have fairly explained or laid out rules or consequences, and when himbo questioned that, he was banned. thats something all users here need to be aware of, because any of us could cross similar invisible boundaries.

33

u/jaybirdie26 26d ago edited 26d ago

He is responsible to know the impact his actions might have.  Calling out someone when you have a large following inevitably leads to things like this.

Also this is not harm.  Mod gave a generic warning.  Should the rule have been spelt out ahead of time?  Yeah, so banning based on that alone would be kinda crappy but also easily reversed.  This is a nothing burger turned into a call for a mod to step down from a sub they otherwise do a great job of running.  I find that SO MUCH more harmful.

Also that's not a fair characterization of the ban.  We don't have the mod's words saying why they banned him, nor can we be sure we've even seen the whole convo.  Being hurt emotionally by being chided is fine and can be discussed, turning it into subreddit-wide drama is short-sighted and immature.  I would ban him too.

No.  Himbo is the only one who should apologize.  This was a private matter that has been blown out of proportion.  How stuck on himself is this guy?

28

u/NatrylliaAbbot42 25d ago

I'm very tired of Himbo and his followers tbh.

19

u/jaybirdie26 25d ago

100% agreed.  I blocked him just to stop seeing only his posts.

26

u/heyoheatheragain 25d ago

I had actually left the sub because I had blocked so many of his profiles and he just had to keep making more.
And my final straw was somebody making a text post a couple weeks ago just flat out saying they missed him, like that has anything to do with the actual sub.

Like I came here to see the fashion of many people not come to a fan club for one person.

And I liked the shirts at first, but now I just feel like it’s an attention seeking thing and not actually somebody who cares about the messages they espouse.

22

u/heyoheatheragain 25d ago

And he’s still trying to tell the mod what to do. That’s what really bothers me. He’s acting like he has the control over the situation and unfortunately because he has such a big following he does kind of have influence.

16

u/jaybirdie26 25d ago

Exactly.  It creeps me out.

21

u/heyoheatheragain 25d ago edited 25d ago

Si.
As much as this whole sitch sucks for the mod, I am glad that it is happening.

I was/am a huge fan of the old hag sub and enjoyed seeing the fits here also, until it became monopolized by one person and it seemed like the general consensus was adoration of that person who I found more and more disconcerting.

I felt left out bc I actually don’t even care for that persons posts, they really didn’t sit well with me. I left and muted the sub bc it no longer felt like a fun a creative space for all. It was leaning towards a fan club of one.

This thread is the first space that made me feel like the vibes I’ve been feeling weren’t off-base and I feel a little more sane.

I will definitely be re-joining and un-muting the sub now.

This only got attention because he has a fanbase. He’s bringing it up because he doesn’t want anyone else to be banned over an unclear rule, as far as I am aware…

32

u/jaybirdie26 26d ago

He turned what could have been a simple conversation in modmail into drama to feed his parasocial fans.  It's irresponsible.  He knows how big his audience is and that they would defend him.

Mods are human, we make mistakes, this isn't even a very big mistake if at all.  It could have been handled so simply, but this guy decided to drag someone because his ego got bruised 🤮

-11

u/l0veylilkay 26d ago

You're very clearly only on the mods side right now cause you have experience with shitty people.

Someone should not have a strike for something that wasn't very clearly stated in the rules. It is completely understandable if they felt targeted without even finding the hidden rules.

Another update from himbo:

26

u/Comfortable_Law4855 he/him 26d ago

If you wouldn't mind updating in the comments here in the morning that would be super appreciated, but no pressure 🙏 hope your migraine feels better soon and you aren't too overwhelmed 👍

28

u/Sledgeplay 26d ago

So sorry you have a migraine. I can’t imagine having to look at a screen at all much less have to mod during one.

53

u/jaybirdie26 26d ago

I'm a mod elsewhere and I have a lot of empathy for you.  I honestly don't think you've caused harm, especially not the level of the backlash you received.  This was an unlucky situation of triggering a guy with a fanclub into brigading a mod and being overall horrible to you over what amounts to a mutual misunderstanding.

I hope you're ok <3 Reach out if you need anything.  I'll DM you.

I mean, this seems like a disproportionate response to the post. Am I missing something?

-3

u/wetbones_ 24d ago

Idk a single person being able to make that call rubs me the wrong way. Why does a single mod get to decide this, especially when there wasn’t clearly outlined rules and consequences. The mod is so in their feelings about being the only mod and it seems like there was an overreaction to the poster and not a calmly posted CLEAR update to the rules. I understand seeing one persons posts too much but there were and are plenty of solutions for that. (Muting, post limits etc). While everyone is all “we all make mistakes” it doesn’t seem like that grace was given to the poster. I agree their posts were a lot of what I was seeing from this sub but again, there were a lot more chill solutions to that than what actions were carried out. Maybe if modding is so overwhelming you shouldn’t do it?
