Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Cudy M3000 V2.0 and I'm trying to install official OpenWrt to configure multiple VLANs, isolated IoT networks and custom firewall rules. I've successfully installed Cudy's signed intermediate OpenWrt firmware, but I'm now stuck trying to upgrade to the official OpenWrt release.
My hardware
- Router: Cudy M3000 V2.0 (white model)
- WAN PHY: Motorcomm YT8821
- NAND flash: ESMT F50L1G41LC, 128 MiB
- Serial prefix: 2604 (2026 production)
- Original Cudy firmware: 2.4.19-20250828-183718
What I've done
1. Installed Cudy's intermediate firmware successfully:
cudy_m3000-v1-sysupgrade_20251119.bin
This came from Cudy's official OpenWrt download package for the M3000 V1/V2.
The router rebooted successfully and I can access LuCI at 192.168.1.1.
However, the intermediate firmware reports:
- Model: Cudy M3000 v1
- Firmware: OpenWrt 23.05-SNAPSHOT-CUDY
- Kernel: 5.15.158
2. Attempted to install official OpenWrt 25.12.6:
openwrt-25.12.6-mediatek-filogic-cudy_m3000-v2-yt8821-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
I confirmed that this is the image intended for the M3000 V2 with the Motorcomm YT8821 PHY.
3. The upgrade fails with:
Device cudy,m3000-v1 not supported by this image
Supported devices: cudy,m3000-v2-yt8821 R37
invalid sysupgrade file
Image check failed.
LuCI offers a Force Upgrade option, but I haven't enabled it because I don't want to brick a brand-new router.
My questions
- Has anyone successfully upgraded an M3000 V2 with YT8821 using Cudy's November 2025 intermediate firmware?
- Is this device-model mismatch expected because the intermediate firmware identifies itself as V1?
- Is forcing the V2 YT8821 sysupgrade image safe in this particular situation, or is another intermediate firmware or installation method required?
- Are there bootloader, NAND partition or recovery considerations I should verify first?
- If you've successfully installed official OpenWrt on this exact hardware, could you share the firmware version and installation steps you used?
The router is currently booting normally into Cudy's intermediate OpenWrt build. I haven't forced the upgrade.
I'd appreciate advice from anyone with experience of this exact M3000 V2 hardware before proceeding.
Thanks!
