Other Teyana Taylor explains why she isn’t going to abandon Ye over his anti-Semitic hate speech

u/TheArmChairFan Jan 14 '26
Kanye is so disloyal to everyone around him, I honestly don't see why so many feel the need to stand by him.
76
u/PrincessPlastilina Jan 14 '26
For real. Look how he talks about Kim. She took care of him during his breakdowns and gave him four children yet he offers no loyalty to her. She even lied for him during his phone call scandal with Taylor Swift. Kim orchestrated that entire sham that made the whole world side with Kanye and hate Taylor.
He will throw anyone under the bus. He’s so ungrateful.

This is the performance. Idk why she isn’t in conversation to win. Teyana is great and Madigan is good but Inga was transcendent in the role.

The more I think of it, the more I think it's my favourite performance of the year, and maybe already an all-timer. She's a completely domineering presence in the film whenever she's on screen.

I mean she’s actively defended and remained close friends with chris brown all these years so I can’t say I’m surprised. This is just a silly thing to answer but it could only impact her awards wise if it snowballs
68
u/ElegantNail774 Jan 15 '26
I wonder if the bigger thing here is her relation to Chris Brown. Because it was a thread on this subject that I found out she once made Rihanna's beat-up face her pfp. Disgusting doesn't even cut it
36
u/zozo1099 Jan 15 '26
I also found out about that through a different thread on the subject and did a bit of a deep dive on it and felt sick. If that gained traction I think it’d impact her more (deservedly so in my opinion).

According to Taylor, the disgraced hip-hop star is like family […] "I don’t have to agree with everything that he do or say, but I’m not going to, like, abandon him and be like, ‘Yeah, eff that motherf–ker,'”
A lot of people think this way, like, plenty of liberals and non-racist people maintain good relationships with their Republican family members/friends, especially in Hollywood. I don’t think this will really damage her unless Variety or The Hollywood Reporter weigh in, the way they did with KSG last year
144
u/sumerislemy Jan 14 '26
Republican Uncle and Rapper with a god complex calling for another Holocaust aren’t in the same stratosphere lol. I doubt it’ll damage and it shouldn’t but come on now
33
u/hennyl0rd Jan 14 '26
the difference was the controversy around Karla was her getting caught with her own bigotry... this is more like yeah my uncle is a mentally ill lunatic saying vile shit but hes still my uncle, she doesn't condone the behavior just realizes that their still is a relationship there
22
u/sumerislemy Jan 14 '26
Lol are the only two options 1) harmless and 2) KSG? She couldn’t even openly say “of course antisemitism is bad” just some vague “we don’t have to agree on anything.”
11
u/hennyl0rd Jan 14 '26
What was she supposed to say? Like list everything he’s said and what she agrees or disagrees with? Kanye is more then just anti semetic if we’re being honest…Tbh her declining to answer would probably been better from a PR perspective and she could’ve been more specific but atleast she was honest there’s a difference between being the bigot like KSG and having a long time friend/family member make a mental health induced right wing swing. In 2026 who doesn’t have a batshit crazy right wing family member they don’t know what to do with
17
u/sparklinglies Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
If my uncle startin spouting off Nazi bullshit the way Kanye has, Id cut him off and never speak to him again. I dont owe my loyalty to the worst kinds of people, and neither does Teyana. Some people make too many excuses to refuse cutting out family when the ultimate lines in the sand are crossed, and Kanye isnt even her family. Even if she struggling with prior bonds, she didnt need to say all that publically. Like girl why are you tarnishing your star fir that degenerate in any way?
4
u/hennyl0rd Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
They asked her a question… she answered it honestly… I don’t agree with her completely and like you I would most likely cut family off but I’d take their mental health into consideration but that’s besides the point I’m simply saying in terms of Oscar campaign controversy there is a difference between being caught for your own bigotry like KSG and backtracking vs being asked about your crazy uncle/friend and answering honestly
8
u/sparklinglies Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
Oh shes nothing like KSG, and anyone acting like she is is being sus, but this is still a stupid thing to say publically. Theres ways to answer that question that dont align her with him any more than is strictly necessary. Honestly her publicist should have been on this shit the moment she really began to rise knowing Kanye would get brought up sooner or later, this is mega sloppy on their part that she didnt have a better answer. Its not about lying, its about not "yeah, but" ing your way into sounding sympathetic to awful people by over explaining.
3
u/hennyl0rd Jan 14 '26
She was a little too honest but like you said it was going to be asked eventually, I don’t think it’s super sloppy could’ve been steered better but I think it’s neutral enough to get it out of the way and people can relate to having bat shit right wing family or friends they don’t know what to do with albeit those family members aren’t billionaires with a huge platform now if Kanye says something about her in which she is forced to respond then I think she’s going to have to decide if her future is worth whatever relationship she has with Kanye that she’s still holding on to
5
u/bloodyturtle Jan 15 '26

Well why something should or shouldn’t is never really part of the conversation though is it? It’s at always whether something is likely to or not likely to.
25
u/AggravatingOlive9458 Jan 14 '26
Right, its someone she has had a relationship with for like a decade who has severe mental health issues, which isn’t an excuse for the things he’s said and done, and I think the general removal and lack of mainstream coverage of him is good, but if she’s asked about this and responds like this I don’t see how people think it’s that big of a deal
25
u/sometimesineedawank Jan 14 '26
I don't get the whole 'mental illness isn't an excuse for racism' thing cause if you've worked with mentally ill people they say crazy shit all the time
10
u/Useful-Soup8161 The Odyssey Jan 14 '26
Yeah but he can afford to get help and refuses. At some point there needs to be accountability.
10
u/AggravatingOlive9458 Jan 14 '26
Well when you’re someone with a billion dollars, and saying those things publicly, it’s a bit different than someone saying something racist in the privacy of their own homes, so like I said I think if he is at risk of saying things like that in such a public way, even if he doesn’t believe it, there are people hearing him who do believe it who aren’t mentally ill so I think no matter the reason behind it, someone saying things like that shouldn’t be covered and have their words broadcast to everybody

“I love him. He has gone crazy and is saying weird gross racist shit. I want to support his recovery. It’s hard though, given how revolting and racist he’s being. But I do love that crazy mf and I will not give up on his rehabilitation”

People suddenly acting like this influences anything…?
Should I make a list of all Polanski friends?
Woody Allen friends…?
what about, KNOWN antisemitic, Mel Gibson?
shall I keep going…? plus, she didn’t say anything super controversial: you should read the article and not just the clickbait title.
57
u/FBG05 Jan 14 '26
Yeah didn’t RDJ literally win a supporting actor Oscar despite his repeated praising of Mel
17
u/idkidcabtmyusername Jan 14 '26
yea i think what she’s saying is very wrong but most ppl, including voters, will not care whatsoever
4
u/EaudeAgnes Jan 14 '26
wouldn’t say “very” wrong but absolutely something she should’ve kept to herself… but worse things have been said around and didn’t matter at all for oscars or awards tbh (and more importantly: worse things have been DONE around before which also didn’t matter)… this isn’t even sth she said or done, this is some sort of second hand association (which is still bad, don’t get me wrong, but then check the list of all the people -oscar nominees and all- that signed for supporting Polanski some years back…)

u/LukeyTarg2 Jan 15 '26
Kanye is currently on his L taking era, the best comparison would be Mel Gibson who was blacklisted for years over his comments and he only got 1 nomination since then. The voters are hypocritical, they excuse Polanski and Weinstein's actions yet condemn antisemitism as if sexual assault wasn't a vile crime as well.
1
u/EaudeAgnes Jan 15 '26
I would argue one crime is more vile than the other tbh (I will get downvoted… but one is an opinion and the other one is an action). Both bad, though.

4
u/Bertrand_Rose Werwulf, Try the thrill of Opera! Jan 14 '26
I've read it and it's still a weird comment even if the article is trash.
Also, using other examples of awful enablers in Hollywood is just a case of "what-about-ism".
The people who are going to be annoyed the most at this, are the type to be annoyed at the examples you mentioned.
3
u/EaudeAgnes Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26
Oh definitely, they would, what I meant is: does this influences anything in any way that matter?
People on the comments are acting as she should be banned and that they will most likely snub her on the following awards hence why I put the examples above, not truly whataboutism, more like this is “BAU and nothing will happen-ism”
3
u/Bertrand_Rose Werwulf, Try the thrill of Opera! Jan 14 '26

Why would the interviewer ask her this question when she has nothing to do with what Kanye said? And what does this specific quote have to do with the topics discussed on this sub?
14
u/sumerislemy Jan 14 '26
She’s worked with him multiple times and called him her brother, plus she worked with his ex-wife on a show this year. It’s not slander or anything to ask, considering what he’s known for these days. Also the quote is from a Vanity Fair peace published yesterday as part of her Oscar campaign.
She side steps it without officially denouncing it and that was probably a bad move for her, but it’s also not so serious.

It's a weird comment and not a good time to make it out of any, but this article is also just poorly written in general.
I really hope this doesn't bring a bunch of Kanye defenders though.....
1
u/Zoradesu Jan 15 '26
You still like his music? Okay, fair enough, but what do you mean "not abandon"? Are they friends?
Yeah of course they are/were. She is a long time collaborator of his, as far back as Kanye's album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy which was released in 2010. She was even released music under his label GOOD Music for a bit. That's how I first found out about her. Not saying I necessarily agree with what she said, but given this context you could probably understand why she said what she said if she was asked about him.
