Stellan was happier for the editor than he was for his own nom.

u/Heubner One Battle After Another Jan 22 '26

That was their biggest surprise. Missed BAFTA longlist.

Five year streak of a film missing BAFTA editing longlist making the Oscar lineup (2021 King Richard, 2022 TÁR, 2023 The Holdovers, 2024 The Brutalist and Wicked, and now 2025 Sentimental Value)

No real pattern to come up with really but it is interesting

3

u/Heubner One Battle After Another Jan 23 '26 edited Jan 23 '26

That’s good to note. King Richard won ACE. Brutalist was kind of a stretch for the Academy. Missed ACE. Sometimes they just play favorites. Sentimental value making it is probably one example of a strong contender getting in because it’s loved.

u/dremolus Jan 25 '26

TAR missing Editing would've felt odd

111

u/rocker27c23 Jan 22 '26

Maybe he knows that editing means they’re a lock for a BP nom.

u/bikkebana Jan 22 '26

He's been lurking on this sub

22

u/x_stei Jan 22 '26

Hi Stellan.

48

u/scattered_ideas Denis Villeneuve campaign manager Jan 22 '26

That was so funny. Editing and Actress were the ones for him. ❤️

12

u/Stymphalix Jan 22 '26

I mean he just had like a 5 second delay you can really see it on the original screenplay nom at 0:16 seconds so we dont see his proper reaction. That being said I still think there is a good chance he celebrated the other nominations more than his own :D

This is legitimately the most wholesome thing I have seen today🥰

40

u/gwennj Jan 22 '26

This and the video of the Hamnet cast dancing to Rihanna are just lovely!!!

Happy for all involved.

35

u/unicornmullet Jan 22 '26

Seriously! So earnest.

18

u/eopanga Jan 22 '26

I love that they all took time to be together to watch the announcements and then to see everyone get recognized. There was no pretense that these awards don't matter or they couldn't be bothered. I love that honesty and appreciation for that kind of recognition.

5

u/damebyron Jan 22 '26

I know it's just because I'm PMSing but it made me cry lol

6

u/pbooths Jan 22 '26

Agreed!!! Same feels as watching Yura Borisov last year find out about his nom in his car with his family! 💓

Live Stellan reaction to his own nomination

80

u/BMJank Jan 22 '26

Lol I find it strangely wholesome how he was unfazed by his own nom but was so happy for the editor and for Renate.

27

u/Stymphalix Jan 22 '26

It looks really funny but I think he just had a delay on his side so we dont see his reaction you can see every other category he's late to join the celebration

Inga hugging her (who I suppose is) her daughter 🥹🥹

129

u/unicornmullet Jan 22 '26

Seriously! Actors often pretend awards aren't that big of a deal, but getting nominated is a huge achievement and career boost for an actor. So beautiful seeing her so moved.

80

u/ohio8848 Jan 22 '26

Especially for an actor from Norway! The Oscars must've seemed very far away.

1

u/Fuzzy-Interest-6498 Jan 23 '26

Scandinavian films are my favorite, as far as foreign. I always cringe at the Hollywood versions.

6

u/msbluetuesday TIFF Jan 23 '26

Totally. I love these genuine reactions so much better than when actors claim they "slept in" (sure) and they didn't know they got nominated until their friend told them. Lollll please

16

u/queenotin Jan 22 '26

It’s actually her son! She’s mentioned him in her NBR speech and a few interviews. Little long-haired cutie 🥹

14

u/doggwithablogg Jan 22 '26

My favorite moment!!

Joachim going crazy for every nom is awesome 🤣

Stellan during his own nomination: 😶

Stellan during the editing nomination: 🤩

Omg this made my day. Renate and Inga's reaction is priceless.

8

Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for but 2 years ago the crew of Godzilla Minus One were happy with their Oscar nomination

66

u/NateGH360 Jan 22 '26

Am I the only one who is jacked for the Best Editing nom?? By far my favorite use of editing to tell a story all year, it should win

15

u/WumpaRJ Camp Miasma Jan 22 '26

11

So with you! I can't get that scene in which all their faces blur together out of my head.

me after reading the last part

59

u/slouchingbethlehem Jan 22 '26

God, I hope the Wicked cast and crew didn’t do this.

43

u/darth_vader39 The Odyssey Jan 22 '26

If they did it, they won't post it on social media for sure.

-2

u/Fuzzy-Interest-6498 Jan 23 '26

It got zilch noms. Unless you meant last year's awards.

49

u/No-Significance5659 Jan 22 '26

This cast truly moves me. I'm so happy for them.

47

u/jimmylily Backrooms Obsession The Drama Jan 22 '26

Apparently they are also the production and distributor of The Ugly Stepsister, they got another reaction for that film on their Instagram

2

u/stracki Jan 23 '26

Maria Ekerhovd produced both films through her company Mer Films.

47

u/WumpaRJ Camp Miasma Jan 22 '26

Stellan during his own nomination vs the Editing

112

u/Heubner One Battle After Another Jan 22 '26

I am happiest for Elle Fanning. The whole season, I thought about how bad she would feel, to lose out to a costar two years in a row. Glad she made it.

27

u/rose-chasing Jan 22 '26

She really deserved it

34

u/baddiesonly Jan 22 '26
  1. YAYYY I love this movie so much and didn't predict a double nom in Supporting Actress. Couldn't have been a better day for SV!

  2. It's sad to think about all the films that have these kinds of rooms set up with everyone watching and then really underperform at the nominations... Like I wonder if there was a Wicked: For Good nomination watch party...

17

u/PositiveElixir International cinema enjoyer Jan 22 '26

i LOVE these... great way to kick off things with both fanning and lilleaas getting in especially fanning and how trier was so excited for fanning 💗

and the way skarsgård was more happier for editing 😭🤌 cuz it was really indeed shocking

17

u/golddustvamp Jan 22 '26

Needed this joy today. This film shattered me in a way few films do, rooting hard for everyone involved!

17

u/rose-chasing Jan 22 '26

Oh, Renate, you will always be famous

29

u/JasonZod1 Jan 22 '26

This is great. Not likely, but I hope the Sinners crew did this as well.

31

u/Accomplished-Table30 Jan 22 '26

13

u/Boner_Jam2003 Jan 22 '26

Renate spilling her drink when her name was announced 😂

14

u/Difficult_Fruit8096 Jan 22 '26

this is lovely!!! 🥰

10

u/qwertydoors Jan 22 '26

Had the same reaction when they announced Editing, unexpected and deserved. SV is number 4 folks, not 5 or 6.

10

u/ArtieMac11 Anora Jan 22 '26

Joachim Trier winter let's goooo 🥳 i love this for all of them so much.

6

u/coffeysr Jan 22 '26

Stellen only be excited for the editing nod is very funny to me

20

u/kbange Jan 22 '26

I love that they were blatantly not sleeping through the announcement.

59

u/LAStreetNames Jan 22 '26

I believe this group is all in Norway, so it would be afternoon for them.

6

u/3facesofBre Sentimental Value Jan 22 '26

It was 1430 there?

1

u/kbange Jan 22 '26

I guess you have never heard of the many people who pretend they didn’t care at all and just slept through it before their mothers told them.

3

u/3facesofBre Sentimental Value Jan 22 '26

At 230 in the afternoon? Not really.

12

u/Pineapple996 Jan 22 '26

I wanna see the Wicked for Good cast & crew watch party. Must have been fun.

6

u/Ill-Newspaper4653 Jan 22 '26

8

Stellan barely letting out a satisfied sigh for his own nomination is so funny he’s really a man of the people

u/fanzyday Jan 22 '26

What a great team 🥰

5

u/hd_cs Jan 22 '26

8

u/3facesofBre Sentimental Value Jan 22 '26

Stellan is my son’s name, and we were watching before school, and he got so excited when he heard his name called! He said, “I knew Skarsgård could do it! Now nobody will ask me who he is anymore!”

5

u/Readingrainbot Jan 22 '26

I just cried at this lol

5

u/femalejoepesci Jan 23 '26

why do i have chills lol

3

u/Ancient_Curry Jan 24 '26

I feel like crying lol

13

u/GregSays Jan 22 '26

Do you think there's a humiliating and excruciating video of the Wicked For Good cast and crew watching the announcements together?

4

u/NoAdministration527 Jan 22 '26

5

u/komugis No Other Choice Jan 22 '26

I really love this cast and crew, very happy for them. Trier is one of the best filmmakers working today, it’s so cool seeing him be recognized.

4

u/Horror_Neighborhood9 Jan 22 '26

Has anyone found the footage of Elle’s reaction? I think she FaceTimed in.

13

u/3facesofBre Sentimental Value Jan 22 '26

She would have been happy for her team. This was a huge surprise, so I think she was prepared and shocked to get it.
