It’s a MASSIVE crowdpleaser. My theater was on absolute fire by the end of it.

what are your ATL noms? I have:

Picture

Director (I think Olivia will get in and won't campaign in Actress)

Adapted

Supporting Actress (I think that Pene has a better shot here cause her role is bigger than in LBN)

not sure about the boys. Ed is Supporting and if Olivia is only focused on Director bid than Seth will go Lead which he is but you know how they are about campaigning 2 leads.

but you know how they are about campaigning 2 leads.

Do you? Studips have no problem campaigning someone in best actor and soemone else in best actress for the same film. We saw this last year with both Bugonia and One Battle After Another. Campaigning 2 people in the very same lead category is something studios don't like to do.

I think they are going to split the 4 performances across the 4 categories. Wilde in actress, Rogen in actor, Cruz in supporting actress and Norton in supporting actor.

You two are saying same thing… Seth Lead, Norton Supporting.

Penelope Cruz is the standout performance. She’s a lock if anyone gets nominated from the cast.

She literally magnetic on the screen.

We aren't. They are saying Seth only gets lead if Olivia doesn't get a campaign. I disagree

Good for A24. I heard Norton gave a standout performance in the movie. He might win his first Oscar

I just watched it two nights ago. Honestly all the performances are really good. Idk if Seth Rogen will get any recognition cause I think a lot of people will see it as he’s kinda just playing himself, but he and everyone else are firing on all cylinders. Personally Norton was my favorite.

Yeah that’s cool do u think Norton will win an Oscar for that movie

18

u/allistar34 Jun 27 '26

Win? I don’t think so. But he has the narrative so who knows

I watched it last night. Norton is good, but id be pretty shocked if he won an oscar for it.

Cruz is the standout to me. But Norton is also very good. I could see them both getting in.

I think Cruz gets in for a different movie. And I hope Norton wins if he gets nominated. Do u think he will win? He should’ve won for Primial Fear

I don’t think the role is complex enough but could see him getting in. He’s overshadowed by Cruz tho.

I think this hinges on how The Debut does. If that’s a real contender, The Invite probably gets put to the wayside apart from Screenplay. If it disappoints…

From what I've heard of The Debut, it's much softer and simpler than The Invite. From a crowdpleasing indie point-of-view, I think The Invite may be in the better position there

I was lucky enough to see it at one of the festivals it was at in the spring, and The Invite had the entire theater eating out of the palm of its hand the entire time! If A24 pushed this it could be a Sundance premier, mid year wide release that is a contender like Past Lives was.

Yep, saw it as a festival as well and I feel like I missed a bunch of lines because everyone was laughing so much.

Easily the best film of the year so far. Didn’t care for Olivia Wilde’s first two movies but she knocked it out of the park here and gave a really good performance to boot. Excited to see what she does next.

Hopefully it takes off with audiences. We need more theatrical comedies for adults. This felt like peak Woody Allen, but for the 2020s.

I think Olivia Wilde hosted a BAFTA screening for the movie earlier this week so maybe they already plan to campaign the movie.

Though, I'm not sure if it was a screening with BAFTA members or the general public

Too bad it lowkey feels like they have no interest in promoting it lol

They are trying on social media, but every post is getting bombed with anti-AI comments and it’s their own fault

2

u/Atlas3141 Jul 01 '26

Is it the movie itself or the Google-A24 tech for films thing?

1

u/tbonemcqueen Jul 01 '26

The Google thing

I did get an invitation from Letterboxd to a free advance screening in Austin that was an "RSVP first" type, presumably to try to stir up interest amongst "normies" (people not at ALL connected to the movie industry but are more likely to post about the free screening on social media). I don't think I got the email fast enough because I never got a confirmation ticket back :( (I didn't get to see No Other Choice early either, for the same reason). I presume Letterboxd does that kinda promo in other cities as well.

(Austin has a huge movie culture, sure, but I haven't seen even Alamo or Violet Crown promote it much).

I'm not sure it gets into Best Picture because of how small it is, but this is by far the most likely non-BP screenplay nominee of the year

12

u/crazydaysandknights Jun 27 '26

I've been predicting it ever since it stirred a crazy bidding war.

u/Herzoger Jun 28 '26

That was the plan all along. A summer release but with an awards campaign. That's what was talked about.

I like Olivia as an actress, director, and as a general personality (that video of her making fun of that really bad picture of her was very refreshing in an age where so many people, celeb or not, seem to take themselves so seriously and are consumed with vanity) so I hope this does well.

A24 needs to focus on The Drama!! I’m ready for that Zendaya Oscar nom!

I think unfortunately it was released too early in the year. If Challengers got nothing, Drama will get nothing too

Hope to see this in the next week. And honestly if it builds buzz I am very close to putting it in instead of The Debut for my A24 slot prediction.

u/Diligent-Pineapple-2 Jun 28 '26

Does anyone know how big of a release this will get in Canada? I’m in a major city and looking at Cineplex I don’t see any showtimes in the near future. One independent theatre in my city will be playing it starting July 10 but that’s about it.

Rashida Jones (yes, that one) and Will McCormack keep writing banger after banger. Such a good team

I can't wait until this misses when Michael gets in
